Let's talk Dragonball on the PlayStation Vita...
I only bring up the Vita because I've noticed that Namco-Bandai has been pretty active in publishing for the system. I've noticed a handful of games from them(good or bad). My question is, what would your thoughts be on a Dragonball Vita game? Better yet, seeing as most games seem to be going this route, a Vita game with online PS3 crossplay? I know the systems not the cheapest in the world but I'm starting to think a Dragonball fighter would be perfect on the go; more so now that the Heroes 3DS port seems to be confirmed.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Re: Lets talk Dragonball on the Vita...
Vita sales aren't doing so hot (they're actually quite poor), and neither have handheld Dragon Ball video games. So I'm going to guess Namco Bandai's going to hold off on one. That said, as you mentioned Namco Bandai hasn't been afraid of supporting the handheld, so who knows. If there ever is one you can be assured that it would likely use assets from the PS3/360 games.
Part of me wonders though, if the requirement to have a PSN release might make things complicated ...

Re: Lets talk Dragonball on the Vita...
I think the Vita is not doing that great because there is nothing for it that makes people want to buy one. I think a sequel to Vs. Tag would be fun on the Vita. You can use the touch screen to switch characters similar how Super Sonic Warriors 2 was.

I don't think Super Sonic Warriors 2 did well for Bandai Namco to produce a sequel. The second game got mixed reviews and I don't think the sales for it where that great.

Wait for PSV sales to improve and then NB will consider if it's worth making a DB game for PS Vita.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Thanos

Re: Lets talk Dragonball on the Vita...
I dunno. I feel like Dragon Ball is the one franchise in video games where the production of titles is done independent of sales.
Sparking!: Shitty sales. Yet they made a sequel.
Sparking! NEO: Even shittier sales! Yet, let's make another sequel.
Sparking! METEOR: Sales better than the two previous games combined, but still not that impressive. Let's reboot it for next-gen consoles anyway!
Raging Blast: Worst sales yet. STILL we'll make a sequel.
I don't know if this applies to consoles themselves but the Dragon Ball franchise seems to come and go as it pleases.

Thanos before Thanos was cool.

I wouldn't count on it. Vita seems like it's about to die next year and get stomped by..competition? I don't think i'll even call the 3DS a competition if it's a curbstomp. Vita competes with Dreamcast, and is selling even worse than it at the same time frame. It can't even get past PSP.

The normal PSP seems to be going strong in Japan while it's dead in the US. I thought the Vita was pretty cool and I think it could sell more over time. Maybe Persona 4 on the Vita will end up boosting sales.

Persona 4 has been released since a long time in Japan. And it's not like the fact it got released overseas has anything to do with Japanese sales.Hellspawn28 wrote:The normal PSP seems to be going strong in Japan while it's dead in the US. And i dislike the Vita due to it's lame fanboys. They go like "Durr Hurr it's a Sony console we get ALL the MATURE GAMES nintendo u sux" and then their CoD port failed and gets 1/10 reviews everywhere.
If not that i wouldn't have anything against that piece of hardware itself, but it's the internet making me dislike it.

You know something, before PS Vita was out I was really excited for it, it seemed to have so much great games at launch and the second analogue looked like it was the definitive solution for portable games in need of such, but... After it came out I got pretty disappointed.Nightstar1994 wrote:Persona 4 has been released since a long time in Japan. Anyway, how low are the sales of Dragon Ball Z For Kinect? The game barely had any publicity anywhere. It's not bad, it's just too short and one player only.

Kinect sucked naturally (Gosh, if that wasn't only censored Ultimate Tenkaichi maybe i would like the game) so i don't know. This year sucked for DB francishe when it comes to Video Games.dbboxkaifan wrote:You know something, before PS Vita was out I was really excited for it, it seemed to have so much great games at launch and the second analogue looked like it was the definitive solution for portable games in need of such, but... Nakajima is already a well proven liar (I think that might be a Bandai Namco thing), but when asked about a Dragon Ball game on Vita he said it's up to fan demand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zFo5Xf1Q-s&feature=plcp

The system isn't going anywhere, at least not yet. Sales aren't amazing but mind you it took a sales drop for the 3DS to do well. Sony just needs to do the same. While they're advertisement department is doing a shitty job showing it, Sony is putting a lot of support into the Vita even going as far as to give 7 free Vita games to Playstation Plus users.

I wouldn't mind so long as PS3/Vita crossplay was available like it is with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and (I think) Tekken vs Streetfighter. As for the PSN thing, I think a PSN/XBLA only release might be in Namco-Bandai's interest financially. Outside, of Gamestop I never see Dragonball on store shelves so it's not like NB would suffer to much. I'm not sure how much it cost to put a game out on an online store but I'd imagine it be a little easier on NB's wallets.
Hell, they could go even further and pull a Walking Dead. Release each saga in cheap episodic adventures.
$15 dollars gets you the base game with the Saiyan Saga
a Verse Mode(both Online and Off) with a full character roster
a tournament mode
and maybe one more mode
every couple of months Namco-Bandai could release the next saga for the story mode for an additional $5. On top of that you could also get new moves and costumes for customization in verses and other non story modes.
I did the math and from the Saiyan Arc-GT/Movies it's about $40. It would be cheaper to produce and it could work with their yearly schedule. Also to keep players interested they could hold mini-tournaments and special events between episodes.

Most likely because Retailers like Best Buy or Target will think that they won't sell well. No point on having something on the shelves if very little people are going to buy it.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:Outside, of Gamestop I never see Dragonball on store shelves

Re: Lets talk Dragonball on the Vita...
Previous week Vita sold worse than 3DS-One-Week-BEFORE-Price-Drop. That screams massive fail already. And the free games won't help anything. It needs Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest, and both of these have been announced for 3DS, so yeah. I just hope Vita dies in the future so Sony can focus on the PS4. They released an unnecessary hanheld especially when PSP is still getting games at this point.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote: Someone is a pessimist.![]()

Yes, but if they don't start making titles to attract a wider audience the sales won't improve as much as it can.dbboxkaifan wrote:Wait for PSV sales to improve and then NB will consider if it's worth making a DB game for PS Vita.
I wouldn't be surprised if some developers and publishers were waiting for the Vita sales to improve, while not contributing for a library worth getting it for.
Personally, a new Dragon Ball game MIGHT make me consider getting the Vita...two or three price drops down the road. (The next gen Pokemon game will totally make me get a 3DS, though, but that's a whole other issue lol)

Re: Lets talk Dragonball on the Vita...
Well that's the point I'm trying to make. If Gamestop is the only place putting out your game, why not just cut retail out completely and just go Digital? I'd assume it's cheaper(production wise at least) and you have a chance to get more people's attention. It could also lead to the idea I had above. I doubt it will ever happen, but if Gamestop is the only retailer selling these things how badly could it hurt?Hellspawn28 wrote: Most likely because Retailers like Best Buy or Target will think that they won't sell well. I HIGHLY doubt Sony is not going to focus on the PS4 because the Vita exists. Neither the 3DS or the Vita is necessary(they're entertainment) but it's still a nice device. I love how everyone screams Dreamcast when a system doesn't do well it's first year. Also, in Japan I'll give you Monster Hunter but I don't feel Dragon Quest is the monster it use to be. In America, those games are hardly game changers. Anyway, that's not what I'm worried about. I just wanted to see if a Vita game would be of interested to anyone other than me. Especially one that jumps between the PS3 and Vita. But I don't get the feeling a lot of people care for one.Nightstar1994 wrote: I just hope Vita dies in the future so Sony can focus on the PS4. Re: Let's talk Dragonball on the PlayStation Vita...
My original point with the digital release wasn't due to retailers or anything. It was a "Do Namco Bandai even have the legal right to distribute Dragon Ball games digitally?" statement. Do note that Tenkaichi Tag Team came out when PSN releases of PSP titles had become incredibly common, yet it was UMD only. Not to mention what happened with the PSN release of Shin Budokai, and Shin Budokai: Another Road after distribution rights went back to Namco Bandai US. Namco Bandai has been making Dragon Ball games for 25 years at this point, and we have no clue as to how long ago these contracts were made, and the terms in them. HD Collections have traditionally been split apart and released individually on the digital storefronts. It'll be interesting to see if the same holds true for the two Budokai games. If they're released then we can confirm that Namco Bandai has digital rights, and if they aren't it's another strike against them having that clearance.
I actually do own a PlayStation Vita, and would be interested in a Dragon Ball video game provided it's an actual quality experience. It doesn't matter which hardware platform the game comes out on if ultimately the game isn't worth spending time and money playing, which has unfortunately been the case for the major games of this console generation ... Maybe the more restrictive environment of handheld gaming development would help the teams working on the games get a clearer focus on the goals they want to achieve. I did enjoy Tenkaichi Tag Team more than Raging Blast 2 for instance.
