Question about the Toei Punch
Question about the Toei Punch
So I was watching Movie 8: The Legendary Toei Punch for the first time in full the other day, since I missed the ending the first time I saw it. Up until now, I was under the impression that the Toei Punch was so effective because Godku hit Broly in the spot he was stabbed as a child. But watching the movie, I don't recall this (or any) explanation given at all. Was that just popular fan theory or is it in the Japanese version/a guide somewhere?
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Re: Question about the Toei Punch
It's just a fan-theory from what all I've seen, partially because we don't even see where Broly was stabbed while a baby, so there's no way of saying for sure that they even hit the same spot. Unless there's some official statement about this that I'm unaware of, it's just a fan-theory to try and give a reason for Goku's punch to "kill" Broly.

Re: Question about the Toei Punch
A source greater than Toriyama mentioned this. That source is the Dragon Ball Wikia.Saiga wrote:Was that just popular fan theory or is it in the Japanese version/a guide somewhere?

Now as for what really happened, I guess that move was something like a prototype version of Ryu-ken.
What I don't understand is what happened in the second movie. Trunks fires a small ki blast, and then lots of explosions happen, with Broli being unable to strengthen his own ki blast, and allowing Goku, Gohan & Goten to win... What?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Re: Question about the Toei Punch
Its a fan rumor plain and simple. Nothing in the movie suggest the reopening of a stab wound. Furthermore Goku didnt even hit in the same place he was stabbed a child. Even if there was some official word that claimed this I would find it very hard to believe based on the fact that Goku didnt even hit him in the right spot =/.

Re: Question about the Toei Punch
I've heard the theory that Broly's chi just grew too big, even for his own body, and Goku's now stronger (haxed) punch made him go *POP*.
Not sure how I feel about that, but yeah.
