Possible Dragon Box 2 retail location found. (?) USA
Possible Dragon Box 2 retail location found. (?) USA
Hi guys, this is my first post here -- I just wanted to share a bit of information for anyone looking for a reasonably priced Dragon Box 2. At the end of July I stumbled across a sealed Dragon Box 2 for $51.99 at a place called the Navy Exchange. I thought I must have gotten pretty lucky. The plastic wrap had a lot of fingernail marks all over it; maybe it had been there for a while? Thinking I'd never see one in the wild again, I happily bought it. Fast forward to the 7th of October, I went back to the same Navy Exchange and lo and behold, I see Dragon Box 1 and Dragon Box 2 sitting side by side on a shelf in the children's DVD section. Both had flawless plastic wrap.
(When I had found the first Dragon Box 2, I had asked an employee if they had anymore Dragon Boxes in the back. He said what they had out on the shelves was all they had, but that I should check back later, because they would try to order more if that was their last one.)
(After I had found the second Dragon Box 2, I asked an employee if they would be getting more of the Dragon Boxes in -- she went to her computer and put in a request to order a whole set of Dragon Boxes, 1-7. She said she would text me when they got them in. She sent me a text less then a week later saying they were in. I went and checked, but not on the day she sent the text, a few days after. I walked to the DVD section and looked around -- only Boxes 6 and 7 -- "Oh well", I thought. I probably should have asked, but the lady that ordered them wasn't working there that day, and really, I thought it too good to be true anyway. Like maybe she accidentally ordered a set of the orange bricks or something. Haha.)
Time skip again to about the 24th of November (this month!) and what do I see on the shelf? A complete set of Dragon Boxes that hadn't been there before. I'm not sure how I keep running into these... Maybe Funimation did a super secret reprint? Maybe the Navy Exchange actually has supply of these and is just slowly trickling them out?
Here is a location map where you can find a Navy Exchange:
https://www.mynavyexchange.com/storefinder/
Please note that you can only checkout at this store if you have a military ID. You will have to find someone that has one if you want to use this store. During the summer at this particular location, you could walk in and look around -- but during Christmas (now) they will most likely card you at the door.
Also interesting to note is that I've seen quite a few DBox 2's on Ebay with this sticker: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DragonBall-Z-Dr ... 7675.l2557
That is the same price sticker that is on all of the DBoxes sold by the Navy Exchange.
So I wish you guys that are still looking for a DBox 2 the very best of luck, and I hope someone finds this information useful.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the military so I'm shit out of luck.
What was the location of the one you went to?

I'm sorry. =(
Tryin' to get my secret huh? Haha. It was the one in Norfolk, VA. The worlds biggest one, actually.
Maybe if you could get into one and manage to find a DBox you could kindly ask a military guy to help you out. I usually always see at least one hanging around the anime section. (Though I wouldn't advise it... since you're not supposed to be in there, you might get in trouble. But maybe some things are worth a risk?)
If you have a friend/family member with a military ID they would be able to buy it.

Yeah, I think this one is out of my hands. I mean, I'm desperate for Vol. 2, but not desperate enough to get in trouble with the military!
But seriously, thanks for sharing, hopefully someone on the forum here can pick this up if they could!

I'd try J&R Music stores.
They always have old stock of everything, I found the MGS Essentials Collection way after it was out of print.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

Interesting, I'll check the local Army and Air Force base come Christmas time, I wonder if this is specific to the Navy Exchange chain.

My buddy's in the Navy. But I don't really care for getting another Dragon Box Z volume 2. I'm happy with just one. Lol.
