How violent will the new movie be?
None of the trailers include a trace of blood, and I don't recall seeing a lot in the more recent specials either. The manga, anime and even GT had plenty of blood. I'm hoping the violence in this movie is consistent with the rest of the franchise.

Probably equivalent to a PG movie like all the others.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
If you think about it the violence in the manga and anime would've made it at least PG-13 if not R if it was live action, so that's what I'm hoping to see in this.

Why should the presence of no blood hinder your enjoyment of the film?

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
Because Dragon Ball is mostly about action, so things like blood are necessary to give an impact to the visuals and make watching it grittier and thus more entertaining. Don't give me this bullshit about "violence doesn't matter, language doesn't matter, graphics don't matter" if nothing fucking mattered I'd read the summary on Wikipedia and be done with it.
Let me give you an example, if Fullmetal Alchemist had no blood, do you think people would give as much of a shit about it as they do? The answer is no, and the reason goes beyond "FMA fans are immature children that like bloody shit", no, the level of violence is actually important in drama and action comics and animation, it taps into a primitive sense of danger, excitement, fear, and despair that we have since when you get hit really hard, blasted with deadly energy, or cut in half you bleed, that's how it is in the real world and according to the manga and anime that's how it is in the Dragon Ball world as well.
I'm just hoping this movie isn't dumbed down to appease the "fragile" minds of small children who don't need to be protected in a world where kids have access to the internet anyway. If this movie lacks the level of action of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, or even Dragon Ball Kai I will be very disappointed and worried about the future of the franchise.

I'm sure it will be the same as every episode, movie and special of the three series. And the anime version of DB never had that much blood to begin with.

It just seems most people think of Dragon Ball with levels of blood and violence seen in Hellsing or Elfen Lied when in reality, there is barely that much in the first place.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
Nothing in Dragon Ball is R rated. Dragon Ball uncut would be at least PG-13. If the movie is rated by the MPAA then PG or maybe G is likely. Who cares if there is no blood or gore. Dragon Ball was never known for it's hardcore violence.Nex Carnifex wrote:If you think about it the violence in the manga and anime would've made it at least PG-13 if not R if it was live action, so that's what I'm hoping to see in this.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
Just like what Gonstead said, Dragon Ball has hardly any blood that would put it barely above PG-13 or maybe PG-13. Even some G rated movies have violent moments. Dracula Has Risen from the Grave is rated G and that movie has a pretty brutal stabbing scene at the end from what I can remember.

Even when watching Dragon Ball Z uncut, there's really not all THAT much blood to begin with in it's fights.Nex Carnifex wrote:I remember there being enough...and yeah I think you guys have been watching it on Nicktoons too much...
If the acting, the animation, the story, the characters and the music all contribute to an entertaining experience, that's all that matters.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
Even with the nudity in Dragon Ball, it won't get a R rating. Titanic had a breast scene and it was PG-13. I always find it annoying when people think Dragon Ball has hardcore violence and nudity when really isn't.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
In every battle, the fighters always ended up dripping with red. I also recall many scenes of violence, Raditz and Goku getting impaled, Tien's arm getting ripped off, Goku's ribs getting crushed, children getting killed by Frieza, Vegeta sticking his hand in Zarbon's stomach, Recoome snapping Gohan's neck plus his brutal beating of Vegeta, Frieza impaling Kuririn with his horn (which was made unnecessarily brutal in the original anime), Frieza torturing Vegeta, Frieza getting sliced into pieces, Yamcha getting impaled by Gero's arm and then having his guts spill out, Vegeta getting his neck snapped, Cell sucking out people's insides, etc. (there's plenty more I don't feel like going over the entire series)
I think it would be R.
I think it would be R.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
Animation violence is much different then live action violence, so a R rating won't happen. As I mention before, you have movies that were PG that were around the same level of violence as Dragon Ball.

Hell, even the home releases are classified as PG.
The only really violent thing I can think of isn't even present in the Anime, but in the Manga where Gero squeezes a guy's neck so hard he decapitates him.

I'm saying if it was live action, and naw I haven't, Dragon Ball has way too much blood for PG its just plain and simple.Hellspawn28 wrote:Animation violence is much different then live action violence, so a R rating won't happen. I have and that wasn't as violent unless you considered bloody water violent which IS in Dragon Ball and isn't anywhere close to the most gruesome parts.Hellspawn28 wrote:I take it that you never saw Jaws which was PGNex Carnifex wrote: Dragon Ball has way too much blood for PG its just plain and simple.?
