Short Version of Cha La Head Cha La

Post by ABED » Thu Feb 28, 2013 7:26 pm

Like many shows, Dragon Soul has a shorter version of the opening theme, so I was wondering if there's a shorter version of Cha La Head Cha La. Did any fan make something like that for kicks and post on youtube. I'd be interested to hear if it could be done and still do the theme justice. One of the big reasons I'm interested is because Gen Fukunaga said in an interview that one of the reasons they decided on Rock The Dragon was because the original was too long for American audiences. I don't typically agree with them but a nearly 2 minute song is pretty long for an opening theme. If I had never seen DBZ and decided to sample I might be inclined to change the channel in the middle of Cha La Head Cha La because at a certain point you wanna watch the show. I love it now, but would I have given it a chance. Most opening songs are under a minute. Plus there's valuable TV time that networks have to think about. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Well, just look at other Japanese cartoons. Most are around the 1:30 mark, though some are as long as 2:00. But usually that's 1:30 for the opening, and 1:30 for the ending; 3:00 altogether. TV stations in the US tend to either shorten them, remove one, or both, or remove both the opening and ending. For example, Inuyasha was lucky enough to get the whole ending theme, but they removed the openings. Most shows, however, seemed to remove the opening and shorten the ending to 30 seconds.

Actually, Team Four Star have nice sound edit of Chala Head Chala, making it short jingle-like.
