I'd like to say I was a fan of the show when I was 2 years old but I was unaware.

Are you not from America? As in a country that got it before '96. If you're from here; how did you see it? The Gold Harmony Dub?

I was technically introduced when I was 2 but I didn't really get into it until Episode 80 of the funimation dub.

I'm from the US but I had an older cousin who watched it I swear on his computer it could have been a tv but I don't think he would have fansubs... I'd have to ask him what it was again but he's seen what kind of collection from it I have now.. I didn't see it until I got a bit older I saw it on CN and I was hooked. and then it was smooth sailing from there.

I would like to see if there is any fans in the US that were fans in the 80's? Fans that were lucky enough to get bootleg VHS copies of the show with crappy subs. I know people that were fans of the show in the 90's before it came out in 1995 and 1996, but I haven't seen many fans that were fans of Dragon Ball in the 80's.

Not as early as Sangofe, but I started getting to know what DragonBall was back in 1993 or 1994 when I only knew the series through cards. When I went to Italy as a kid around the same time, I would watch What Is My Destiny: DragonBall only because I was familiar with the characters on the cards. I had no idea there was even a DragonBall (no Z) at that time.

When I found out it was gonna be on TV here in America I got really excited. Then when I saw it, I was like "this isn't DragonBall! Why is Goku a little kid?!" It's then that I realized the series was a billion episodes long and spanned from Goku's childhood to adulthood. I figured it would take forever to get to the good stuff, but they just kept playing the same 13 episodes over and over and over. Then one day it didn't come on and I was stuck watching something called Blinky Bill at 5AM. I figured that was the end of DragonBall in America. But we all know how that turned out.

Eventually, I started going to China Town and buying just the fan-subbed movies. I didn't wanna buy the episodes because the tapes were like 20 bucks and the story wouldn't be concluded. I figured the movies had a beginning and an end so I stuck with those for a while.

Fodase je je je, long time a go!!

I've been fan since 1993 reading parts of the manga and the first time I saw the TV series was in 1994 and later, saw the movies, TV specials, ova, etc.

Hey, I have 36 and I'm still and I will continue being a good fan for the rest of my life.

if God gave me the chance, I have all the DB merchandise for my future kids

I still hope to see a member who became a fan when DB first started back in 1984. I think don't think we have anyone else from Japan other then Kei17?

Well, my favorite T-Shirt when I was a little kid, around the end on the 80s and start of the 90s, had Son Goku as a kid on it, does that count?
I started watching Dragon Ball when it was first premiered on my native country, around 1996, though. And it was because I instantly recognized Goku as that monkey boy I had on that T-Shirt...
Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...

I sometimes lurk in the Aging Otaku Lounge, some pretty interesting stuff there.
