Keeping your body in the Afterlife
I was wondering how it is determined whether or not one keeps his or her body after death. I read in Herms' guide to the afterlife that Goku was able to keep his due to him saving the world, but how does that work for the others? I supposed it could be argued that by delaying Vegeta and Nappa until Goku arrived, Piccolo, Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu contributed to saving the world, and thus were able to keep their bodies, but why didn't this apply to Krillin as well? And then you have King Yemma telling Goku that he gave Dabura a pass to go to Heaven; does that mean he kept his body too? And finally, after dying in Cell's explosion, Goku tells all his friens that he'll see them when they die. Is this a plot-hole, a lie to make his friends feel better, or just Goku not knowing what he was talking about?

Re: Keeping your body in the Afterlife
In the Cell arc, Goku explains that bad guys and normal people become spirits when they go to the afterlife, and that people only get to keep their bodies under certain circumstances. The first time he went to the afterlife (after dying in the battle with Raditz), Kami took Goku's body to the afterlife so he could use it to go and train under Kaio. It's possibly-sorta-opentointerpretationbutmakessensetome implied that Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, and Piccolo were given their bodies by Kami when they met him in the afterlife for the same reason. And of course, they let Goku have his body permanently after the Cell arc because of his heroic deeds or whatever.
I don't see why Kami couldn't have given Kuririn his body so they could wish him back to life instead of wasting a wish bringing his soul to Earth. I guess they just didn't think of it. Dabura, of course, wouldn't get to keep his body, just as normal people don't.

Maybe Kami couldn't take Kuririn's body because he died on Namek, since it was too far from his territory.

But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Maybe Kami wanted a day off, i mean come on the guy was just wished back to life himself, can you blame him for wanting a bit of time to adjustDBZGTKOSDH wrote:Maybe Kami couldn't take Kuririn's body because he died on Namek, since it was too far from his territory.

I know, right? He's back for like, an hour, and he gets pop quizzed by Kaio on hypothetical dragonball rules, and has to play middleman between Kaio and Popo. Maybe all that telepathic conversation gave him a headache or something?Scott wrote:Maybe Kami wanted a day off, i mean come on the guy was just wished back to life himself, can you blame him for wanting a bit of time to adjustDBZGTKOSDH wrote:Maybe Kami couldn't take Kuririn's body because he died on Namek, since it was too far from his territory.

I think this is why he asked Piccolo to become guardian of the Earth, he just couldn't handle the demands anymoreKamiccolo9 wrote:I know, right? Re: Keeping your body in the Afterlife
What about the whole "if someone is killed by a demon there soul wanders in space" thing. Kami said something along those lines to Mr. Popo when he thought Piccolo wasn't as evil as he once was because Raditz was sent to the afterlife. Maybe Freeza is considered a demon too, so Kuririn was never sent to the afterlife.

Re: Keeping your body in the Afterlife
Why would Freeza be considered a demon though? We never see any indication that there is anything magical about him. I've heard the term "Ice Demons" used to refer to his species, but only amongst fans.Saiyan Prince Vegeta wrote:What about the whole "if someone is killed by a demon there soul wanders in space" thing. Because Piccolo Daimao wasn't truly a demon, so maybe it just refers to evil people. Just a thought.

Re: Keeping your body in the Afterlife
How is he not a demon? I mean, he is literally a deity's evil thoughts given corporeal form. Sounds pretty demonic to me.Saiyan Prince Vegeta wrote:Because Piccolo Daimao wasn't truly a demon, so maybe it just refers to evil people. Just a thought.

Re: Keeping your body in the Afterlife
I get what you're saying. He wasn't from the Demon World, so he's not a true demon like Dabura. Which makes me wonder, are people killed by Dabura barred from the afterlife? Kibito didn't seem to remember being dead, and one would think that he could keep his body. And what about Garlic Jr.? Isn't he referred to as a demon as well?Saiyan Prince Vegeta wrote:Because Piccolo Daimao wasn't truly a demon, so maybe it just refers to evil people. Just a thought.

Piccolo Daimao & his off-springs (Piano, Tambourine, Cymbal, Drum, Piccolo) belonged to the Demon Clan Namekians. Once a Namekian is pure evil, he turns into a Demon Clansman.Saiyan Prince Vegeta wrote:Because Piccolo Daimao wasn't truly a demon, so maybe it just refers to evil people. Just a thought.
Of course, Piccolo didn't stay one for ever.

Ah, true... Still, I'd say the "evil thoughts made flesh" thing is probably the more important part here.Kamiccolo9 wrote:The Namekian wasn't God of Earth when he split.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. He still wasn't a "natural" demon like Dabura though (if that makes any sense)Ookalf wrote:Ah, true... Still, I'd say the "evil thoughts made flesh" thing is probably the more important part here.Kamiccolo9 wrote:The Namekian wasn't God of Earth when he split.

Re: Keeping your body in the Afterlife
The whole thing about bad guys keeping their bodies in the anime is incredibly irksome. What Freeza can keep his yet Vegeta can't? What kind of logic is that? If their was consistency in bad guys keeping their bodies, for whatever reason, I would be fine with the anime doing something that the manga doesn't do but they just had to screw it up.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

Re: Keeping your body in the Afterlife
Says who? It seems to me that beings born the way Daimao was are considered demons in Dragon Ball. Is it possible that Freeza also counted due to how evil he was? I guess so, but it's also perfectly possible that he's not. Pure Buu is probably closer, since he is literally a blob of pure evil.Saiyan Prince Vegeta wrote:Because Piccolo Daimao wasn't truly a demon
Whoever knew that evil was pink?

I think Pure Evil Boo is a better example, Bussani. It's even in his name, and he's create in a very similar way to Piccolo Daimao (if not the same) and it's in his name.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I guess the very evil people in the anime keep their bodies so that they can be torched to death in Hell.TheMightyOzaru wrote:The whole thing about bad guys keeping their bodies in the anime is incredibly irksome. What Freeza can keep his yet Vegeta can't?
