How many English releases will you own before you stop?
So now we have the :
1. FUNImation "Z" release (Blu Ray or Bricks)
2. FUNImation "Kai" release
3. Ocean "Z" release.
While I love aspects of all 3, when I do my re-watch of the series (every 2-3 years or so), I just can't watch the entire Ocean/FUNI Z/ FUNI Kai releases every few years, because I just can't re-watch the same show 4x with different voices actors every time. I'm wondering, are you fans going to be more selective now and buy just ONE English release to own? Or are you just going to stick to the original Japanese version?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for me, as soon as I heard about the release of the Ocean dub, I have sold my Orange Bricks (all 9 of them) and the entire series (released so far) of Dragon Ball Z Kai. I'll probably pick up the Blu Rays if they continue them, but mostly as an upgrade of my Dragon Boxes.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I don't think I'll ever stop buying and supporting the releases
this is what I own thus far
Dragon-boxes 1,3,6,7
Dragonball Z Kai Blu-ray 1 & 2 and DVD 3 & 4
Both box sets of the ocean dub so that's 53 episodes
Level 1.1 and 1.2
all of the orange season sets and all the GT season sets
Maybe an ultimate uncut dvd here or there and way too many VHS tapes lol and I'm not even going to into the movies and specials lol

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Proud Orange Brick owner here. Most affordable way to own DBZ.. I don't care about the cropping issues it's super exaggerated by nerdy fanboys anyway.. Orange Bricks are an awesome collection.

Well, for people that bought the Dragon Boxes Z when they were first out they were very affordable and definitely worth the price.FindKenshi wrote:Proud Orange Brick owner here. If it weren't for the Dragon Boxes Z then I'd never own the complete series of DBZ. Orange Bricks are garbage to me.

To update your statement. Only way to own DBZ in most updated form.... not a HC fanboy, but the image sure is shity.FindKenshi wrote:Proud Orange Brick owner here. Most affordable way to own DBZ.. But still I'm not retarded enough to buy DBox for 200 dollars each + almost lost my sanity and virginity in czech toll house this week, because of Legend of Zelda - Hyrule Historia as it went over limit of 22 euro.
Looks like thanks to European Union, my days of expensive (and even cheap) import from US are over.
What the hell is going on....

Not going to get into a Bricks v. Dragon Boxes debate. This thread is about re-buying/updating one's collection. Personally, I only sold my Bricks because I'm hoping the Blu Rays will come out eventually. I really dig Faulconer's music, even if I prefer the Japanese original.dbboxkaifan wrote:Well, for people that bought the Dragon Boxes Z when they were first out they were very affordable and definitely worth the price.FindKenshi wrote:Proud Orange Brick owner here. Don't want to start this debate again, but the old single DVDs were far better, which is quite sad.FindKenshi wrote:Proud Orange Brick owner here. Most affordable way to own DBZ.. If the Z season sets didn't have any redubbing, and the quality had been on par with the DB or GT season sets, I wouldn't be picking up the old singles for my dub fix.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
Wow. That's going to be an awesome collection man. I'm more of a purist with all of my favourite tv/film series. I basically like to own only what I'll re-watch. For example, I am a massive fan of the original Star Wars trilogy. However, instead of buying the Blu Rays or the Prequel Trilogy (which I very much dislike), I bought the closest thing to the originals, which are the Laser Disk releases. I'm basically the same with Dragon Ball.dbboxkaifan wrote:Dragon Ball Home Releases I have:

I'd love it if the "Battle of Gods" DVD/Blu Ray came with "Yo Son Goku and his Friends Return!" and the "Story of Bardock" as bonus features here in North America.
Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I have the rarer Dragon Boxes, waiting to fill in the rest of my collection. I'll get Kai if they ever release a version without obnoxiously repetitive music placement. I'm happy with the Manga and DVD's of the movies for the most part.

Yeah, that's pretty much my collection too: Dragon Boxes, Blue Bricks, All the movies, and the Manga. I also have a USB full of the stuff that hasn't been officially released yet: ...a) "Yo Son Goku and his friends return" ....b) Everything Team Four Star have put outDuo wrote:I have the rarer Dragon Boxes, waiting to fill in the rest of my collection. Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
The only thing I'd really like to have at this point is the colored edition of the Manga. Sadly Viz is not providing an efficient or cost effective delivery of this product, nor do I necessarily want to read their work once the late Artificial Human arc hits. Do I consider the Japanese version? I at least know the plot and dialogue pretty well by this point...

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I don't want to go into the Season Set debate either, but I'll say this - worse footage and wide-screening or not, it was still the first feasible and affordable way to own the entire franchise, so I own them (all of them, the DB ones, the Z ones, and the GT ones, as well as the 'Double Features') with pride. It's better than not owning the series at all.
As for the actual question of the thread, I've asked myself this, a LOT. I already have owned over the years - some tapes with episodes that I taped off of Toonami; official VHS releases; a few single DVD releases; the Season Sets; and now I have the Dragon Boxes to upgrade to eventually. Then there's Kai on top of that. I had no interest in the Bluray Level sets on the surface, but the new 'extras' they seemed to be getting had me intrigued as well. It just won't stop!?
As things stand now though, assuming we do get the Dragon Boxes for DB, GT, and the movies, that will be where my collecting ends as far as re-purchases go. For the manga on the other hand, I still need the VizBigs, after which I'll be done with that too.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
Yeah I was a bit iffy about the Blu Ray level sets too. I think the only reason I even bought them was just because of the Blu Rays have nearly life time value of working perfectly. I took care of my Orange Bricks (which I loved) like crazy and still I'd say 5% of the disks had horrible 'skipping problems'. But that's more about Blu Ray v. DVD than anything to do with the actual content of the disks themselves.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I don't want to go into the Season Set debate either, but I'll say this - worse footage and wide-screening or not, it was still the first feasible and affordable way to own the entire franchise, so I own them (all of them, the DB ones, the Z ones, and the GT ones, as well as the 'Double Features') with pride. I'll rebuy Dragon Ball if an English DRAGONBOX comes out.
Still waiting for GT's DBOX. If it looks like it never comes, than I'll get the Green Bricks.
I'll probably never own Z. I wouldn't mind owning the Cell Games towards the end. Obviously would have to be DBOX.

Re: How many English releases will you own before you stop?
I bought the singles when they came out, then the season sets because they took up less room, and then the Dragon Boxes. I think that's about it for me. I enjoy parts of the dub, but the Dragon Boxes are complete for me. THe footage is in it's proper aspect ratio, they look beautiful, and they have the NEPs. I don't really care to own the Dragon Box movies, but I will buy the Dragon Boxes for the other two series if they ever come out. I might be willing to buy Blu-Ray or whatever next generation formats come out, but they really have to make it worth my money (eg a crapload of extras).

The only animation I own now is The Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans on my copy of Raging Blast 2. The anime is too long and I don't really see myself rewatching it but it would have just been in Japanese anyway. I might pick up the movies some time though.
