DBZ available on Hulu Plus but what about Netflix/Neon Alley

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

DBZ available on Hulu Plus but what about Netflix/Neon Alley

Post by dbboxkaifan » Mon Mar 25, 2013 11:38 am

Dragon Ball Z is available for streaming on Hulu Plus, so this means that it could also be on Netflix and even Neon Alley, both of these services are digital streaming series and films. What's exactly stopping them?

A cartoon series like this still isn't on more digital streaming services, that's disappointing. I'm sure plenty of people would like to watch DBZ straight away without discs or whatever. It can be purchased/rented but it's not the same thing.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

I agree with you that FUNimation would definitely benefit from putting DB/DBZ up more streaming services other than Hulu.

However, over the couple of years, the amount of FUNimation-licensed anime appearing on Netflix has dwindled significantly. Many older titles have been removed, and newer titles aren't showing up these days. Netflix's anime lineup is starting to dry up slowly but surely. I think this has to do with some rights limitations imposed by the Japanese holders, or the fact that FUNimation is pimping out their own streaming/DTO services now, so Netflix would just take away from that potential profit.

I think having DBZ or even Kai on Neon Alley would be a great idea though, since they tend to air lots of repeats, and having 291 episodes to shuffle around would diversify their lineup more.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

DBZ available on Hulu Plus? Nice to hear, although I find it weird why Funimation doesn't mention subscription being available to watch DBZ.

How many episodes are available on Hulu?

Here's Hulu's page of Dragon Ball Z: http://www.hulu.com/dragon-ball-z more on paid subscription, free's got less, but still some to watch.

Netflix has drastically reduced the number of anime titles available to stream online... I doubt we'll ever see anything Dragon Ball there.

Hulu is nice and all, but I wish Funi could put the films up on iTunes. So jealous of the Japanese iTunes store right now.
