Dragon Ball RTS game
Dragon Ball RTS game
Hey guys, just curious if anybody would be interested in seeing a real-time strategy game for dragon ball. I've been thinking about making one for a while. What are your guys thoughts?
The planned setting I was thinking the game could be in is a before the events of Dragon Ball. Before Freeza had control of Planet Vegeta. The factions could be the Namekians, Freeza's Army and the Saiyan's(As these are the only races with any semblance of interstellar space travel before Dragon Ball Z). I'd also like your opinions on the ideas I've already have with the factions.
With the Namekians their traits would be:
-Small population.
-Highest starting troop battle power.
-Namekian Fusion.
Positive
-Higher battle power for troops.
Negative
-Lowers troop count.
-Lower health pool for troops as there will be less in a group.
Potential:
Katas
With Freeza's Army their traits would be:
-Largest population.
-Lowest starting troop battle power.
-Advanced Technology to offset low battle power(Such as health stations for quicker recovery, weapons and vehicle transport).
Potentials:
Special Forces( E.g. Ginyu Special Forces).
With the Saiyans their traits would be:
-Medium population.
-Varying starting battle power, from high to low depending on what Saiyans are born(Elite or low class, the low class can be created faster).
-Oozaru
Positive
-Higher battle power for troops.
Negative
-Lower troop mobility.
-Lower range for attacking.
-Can only be used every X amount of turns.
So I'd like your guys opinions, think its a good idea?

Ooh, colour me interested. I think the Saiyans seem to have too many drawbacks, but I like the idea.
Instead of setting it before Dragon Ball, though, have you thought that you might set it in an AU? That would give you more freedom, and then you could include characters like Nail as well.

Well I gave Saiyans more drawbacks because they don't have potentials like the other factions(Because notable characters haven't been born yet). And yet the Saiyan's get a 10x increase in battle power from Oozaru plus they'll probably end up with higher battle powers than all the other factions troops; excluding the potentials which will have much higher battle powers. In essence their base troops will be better than the rest of the others mid-late game.Saiga wrote:Ooh, colour me interested. I think the Saiyans seem to have too many drawbacks, but I like the idea.

Fair enough, but to me they don't have enough perks to offset their disadvantages. Also, you could always make your own OC to be potentials.Hitiro wrote:Well I gave Saiyans more drawbacks because they don't have potentials like the other factions(Because notable characters haven't been born yet). That might be an idea. I haven't finalized all the possible perks of each faction yet though. To be fair though I don't see the Saiyans struggling in the game. They have the Oozaru transformation which, while has its draw backs, is still an efficient weapon against the enemy. And, as I said, Saiyans will have the highest battle power by mid-late game apart from the potentials which will be the only ones to match the Saiyans. Of course I will think up some more perks to be used by them as well as the other factions.Saiga wrote:Fair enough, but to me they don't have enough perks to offset their disadvantages. I was thinking of having an AU too. Not sure how it would go down though, lol.

I'd actually like this.
"First I whip it out! Then I thrust it! With great force! Every angle...! It penetrates! Until...! With great strength...! I... ram it in! In the end... We are all satisfied... And you are set free...!" ~Dante~

Re: Dragon Ball RTS game
I haven't really played that many RTS games, but this sounds pretty cool. I wish this was actually real.

Re: Dragon Ball RTS game
DBZ Sagas and the RPGs involved large numbers of enemies. The ones I remember most are Red Ribbon Army robots and Saibamen. Might happen one day.

I've had this idea forever. My issue was coming up with races, enough unique units/specialties for each one, and having a narrative that makes sense.
I was Thanos before the MCU existed!

I like a lot of RTS games and I would love to play this. Too bad a DBZ RTS game won't sell well though.

How do you know this? A small scale Dragon Ball RTS could have a niche amount of costumers backing it up.Hellspawn28 wrote: Too bad a DBZ RTS game won't sell well though.

Re: Dragon Ball RTS game
Would you keep true to the series and make it so that one soldier with a power level of 42,000 would basically stomp the entire saiyan race, thus removing the point of making an RTS?

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

That would make it silly.RandomGuy96 wrote:Would you keep true to the series and make it so that one soldier with a power level of 42,000 would basically stomp the entire saiyan race, thus removing the point of making an RTS?
I would make sure that a group of Saiyans with a battle power summing up to 42,000 would have just as much chance against a character with a battle power of 42,000. Characters like Gohan, Vegeta and Kuririn held their own against Freeza for a short time and their battle powers were insignificant to Freeza's. Obviously Freeza would have curb stomped them eventually but I want to take this back a little and groups of low battle powers as much of a chance against single characters with a high battle power.

Maybe on the handles, but not as a console game. It seems like they stick with fighting games on the consoles because they must think that fighting games sell the best on the consoles.Insertclevername wrote:How do you know this?
