Budokai 3: Full List of Things Omitted from the Final Game

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Fri May 03, 2013 8:18 am

I've always been incredibly interested in this, and I was wondering if anyone has or would be willing to compile a complete list of what was omitted from the final game. The big one has always been that Bulma ( along with #19, Zarbon and Dodoria and a few others) was meant to be playable, but I've heard that every character was meant to have their own Dragon Universe and a lot of voice clips that are left over from this exist within the samples that are available for listening on one of the extras in story mode (are these also available in the Japanese version with the same/or similar dialogue?).

Would be awesome if someone collected every one of these voice samples and grouped them into their respective stories, but that would take a shit-load of time- unless of course they're already organized like that on the game. It's been a while, sorry, but I'm pretty sure they were arranged by character if I recall correctly.

From what I remember, one of the story modes contained Kid Goku travelling to the future in a time machine; but I've been reading in the "Bandai Planning to Conquer the World?" thread that voice clips exist of Goku and Bebi Vegeta exchanging dialogue and the latter ended up making their way to Infinite World four or so years down the track. :?

By the way, did the 'Freeza in his hover chair' end up being a mod or is it actually available in the Japanese version of the game through certain methods? This was way before my time on the internet, sorry:

Man, Budokai 3 is just littered with fascinating stuff. The 'Goku vs. Metal Coola' fight by the time machine always struck me as a weird addition.

This has to be a podcast topic at some point! There could be sound clips from Dragon Universe and everything!!! It'd be a little dated, but still extremely fascinating. Thanks in advance. :D

Apologies for constantly asking for stuff on the podcast. I've sent many a PM to you guys in my time, probably more than I should.

No, Freeza in his hoverchair is not legitimately available to play as in any version of the game without tinkering around with GameShark/ActionReplay/hacks.

It's tough to know what was "intended" to be part of the game without any actual statements from people.

I can at least say that Daimao let us know ahead of time (he translated the game for its English release) that there were lines for Bulma that seemed to imply she was playable, and you can see Vollmer doing fighting noises in the "Behind the Screams" DVD that came with the "Limited Edition" version.

I know there was also an early statement from one of the game's producers (which I can't put my hands on right this second) that noted something about wanting to bring back all of the characters that had appeared so far for the third game, which would have included #19, Dodoria, and Zarbon that had been excluded from the second game.

Both of the above items tie in with the "World Tournament"-related audio files on the game disc, too.

Then there's all that extra "Dragon Universe" stuff, like you said. Seems silly to have recorded all that extra dialog just to have it sit in a menu somewhere rather than be used as a gameplay/story element...

If all that stuff was ready for the final version, I wounder what the reasoning was for not including it in the game. My best guess would have been memory but you'd think they would have thrown it all in for the HD versions that were just released.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

They probably weren't in a fully completed state. Dimps was likely pushing these games out in less than 16 months.

I remember in the voice files that Janemba, Bebi Vegeta and Super 17 were mention. I guess they were likely plan, but they didn't have time to put their character data in the game. It won't surprise me if the character models for Super 17 and Bebi Vegeta in IW were old character models that Dimps had save somewhere in their archive files.
