Broly theme suggestions
So I have an idea for a Broly theme...but I wanted to get your opinions on what you think it should sound like. From what I remember of the first movie with him in it, he seemed pretty mournful at first.
I think I would start with a mood similar to this played on my new toy.
Then I would move into some pounding metal type stuff with a melody over the top probably played similarly..... or whatever you guys suggest if I get an overwhelming response in another direction.
Many people say my theme The Fifth Power would be a good Broly Theme, so...one idea is to go in that direction.
(Oh and btw, thanks for the suggestions on other themes I've done. This has worked out great for me in the past..."Future's Sword" being the last theme I came here for advice on!)

Re: Broly theme suggestions
That first one fits Broly' in his base form perfectly, IMO, and it's "scary" enough to be a base for Broly's gradual rise in power, rage, and "unstoppableness," once you start adding the heavy metal stuff on top of it.
Good luck with this!

Re: Broly theme suggestions
When I think of Broli I think of the character in stages.
Normal-form Broli: small drops of music. He's a quiet character with little in the way of boisterousness.
Super Saiyan Broli: saxes, many saxes. Fast, but steady building.
Legendary Super Saiyan Broli: bombastic horns, drums, and cymbals. Maybe a little organ-work.
I'm not really sure if that'll be useful any, though.

IMO, melodies and rhythms should be repetitive and become aggressive in small steps (minimal, in one word) to express his persistent, but childish rage against Goku. It should not be beautiful-sounding like Yamamoto's, and his rage and wild strength can't be expressed by loud metal music. They fit something simpler.

Re: Broly theme suggestions
Love the suggestions so far. Repetitive builds can be so powerful..trumping many a complex arrangement. I may try a layered build starting with an electric violin idea. Really simple

Yeah, when I think of Broli's wild strength I actually think of something similar to the music from the third Dragon Ball Z film. Maybe that's a little too sophisticated a sound for Broli but I feel like those pieces have 'scale' to them that might be applicable to a 'legendary warriror'.kei17 wrote:IMO, melodies and rhythms should be repetitive and become aggressive in small steps (minimal, in one word) to express his persistent, but childish rage against Goku. Re: Broly theme suggestions
I agree that repetitive builds should be used in the beginning. I could see it having a choir behind the music to give the sort of "Oh crap, we're screwed" feeling, that this is one of the most powerful warriors you'll ever see. I'd say a semi-metal riff and a heartbeat build-up would sound cool. But, then that would just be a rip off of Only a Chilling Elegy.

Yep, it's Tree of Might. Try giving these a listen as I'm sure he's referring to the Kikuchi score - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEzUQfyVoQM

Re: Broly theme suggestions
Dat violin sounds PERFECT for Broly's base form!!
Umm I know it's not your direction, but I always envisioned Broly with bombastic epic terrorlike orchestra sounds.
Like this..

But Heavy Guitar riffs with French horns would do!!.

Re: Broly theme suggestions
Yeah, I'm speaking of Kikuchi Shunsuke's music from the aforementioned film. The scale of his pieces are massive, but like I said earlier, they may or may not be too sophisticated a sound for Broli. While not necessarily intended for Tullece as a villain, I do feel like Kikuchi managed to create a score fitting of the character's intellect.cRookie_Monster wrote:Thanks! Is that Tree of Might? Re: Broly theme suggestions
The electric Violin is definitely good for an opening representing a sort of ancient legend sound as well as representing a the quite nature of base Broly in Movie 8. After that I would probably transition into what JulieYBM said but when you transition into the Legendary Super Saiyan, add some electric guitar. A lot Broly's stuff in the dub of movie 8 has some shredding going on.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."
