Was Trunks underused in the Android Arc?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Was Trunks underused in the Android Arc?

Just seems like he should have had a more important role. He seems more of a background character

He kind of had the Kaioshin role, just warninig the heroes about the villains and freaking over them(although he was right in this case, unlike Kaioshin, but he was right about Buu anyway).

He got to kill King Cold and Mecha Freeza and save his world by stomping the androids and Imperfect Cell. He had enough good moments, he doesn't need more.

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

As an admitted Trunks fanboy, yes, I demand more. The amount of plot involvement he got wasn't bad, but I would have liked to see a few more cool fights here and there. It probably doesn't help my craving that I'm not at all a fan of the USSJ form. I guess I would have just liked a bit more regular ole' Freeza killing, jacket wearing, sword wieldin' Trunks.

Yes, I do think he was. But like Kaioshin I don't know what else they could do with him...
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

No, I don't think he was underused. He stomped Freeza, Cold, 17, 18 and Cell all in one arc. Using him to point out the flaws in the Super Saiyan Grades (with his inexperience causing him to make an error) was a good use of his character as well. Anymore and it'd be a bit much. :?

Not really; the arc opens and closes with him being a badass and curbstomping both Freeza and Cell. I think it probably fits his character that he would blend into the background after a while; he's ultra-polite and grew up in the Apocalypse. He's a no-nonsense "Let's do what I came here to do and go home" type of person.

No, but he was underused in the Boo arc.

Maybe. He was definitely a useful character but I'm not sure if he was underutilized. When I first watched the series, I expected Trunks to finish Cell and some part of me still wants that to be the case but I have no problem with how the Artificial Human arc ended.

I've always wondered if Boo came to Trunk's timeline, I assume he did. I wonder how he handled it.

Pretty sure there was a game that covered that "what-if".

Shin Budokai 2- Another Road's Story Mode is basically that. Boo being revived in Future Trunks' timeline. But it's a clusterfuck of a story to say the least from what I've heard.

I think trunks's role was ok, but since he was the one to warn the past about the androids, and them ruin his time I think he should have killed cell instead.

But he did kill Cell. Do you want him to kill TWO Cells, throwing logical power scaling out the window and robbing Gohan of his glory?

Yeah honestly if you really think about it, Trunks has quite an impressive kill streak by the end of that arc. 5 kills as opposed to everyone else who got 1 max. Vegeta killed C-19 and Gohan killed SPC. Trunks killed Freeza, Cold, C-17, C-18, and Imperfect Cell.

Exactly. I mean, he got to stomp two main villains (Freeza and Cell), saving two universes in the process. He had waaaaaaaaaaaay more than enough. I'd think that it was already way too much. Any more would've just been extremely excessive. Also, look at the win-loss record for the characters in this arc...

Goku: Three losses.

Piccolo: Two wins, three losses, one draw.

Vegeta: Two wins, three losses, one draw.

Trunks: Five wins, two-three losses, one draw.

I agree. Plus, the movies kind of supplement the need for more Trunks action (especially Movie 9).
