Is Kai on Nicktoons becoming what DBZ was on Toonami?
I just saw an Nicktoon Dbz Kai promo. I must say and admit. They did a lot better than Toonami dbz promos. Y'all should search some of them up. It's very well editing and was great to watch. THe kids today will remember DBz kai into adult or teen life. Similar to how english dub fans remember their Toonmai run very welll. Yes some kids know about the original Dbz but surprisingly they know Dbz kai is a "remake" with better voice acting and more serious even in Nicktoons versions. I was shocked to hear my little brother and his friends talking about how DBz Kai is better and more realistic than Dbz due t o how the voices sound(mainly Freeza
) and how much clips(Filler) they remove to make the pacing better. So even for the kids that knew DBZ before DBZ kai or learn about both around the same time. I think it possible that the original DBZ english dub might die out a little. So is Nicktoons turning DBZ kai into what TOonami made DBz. Will this lead to FUnimation re-making Dbz Kai like 50 times xD

I don't think so. DBZ on Nicktoons does not seem as popular as DBZ was from 1998 - 2003 on Toonami.

Honestly, we'll have to wait until they've grown up and are feeling nostalgic for their old TV shows before I can give you a straig answer, but I assume that most kids who grew up on Kai will find Kai so much better and the current people who think he FUNi Z dub is better will no longer care. It'll be like how most of the Ocean Group fans aren't really around anymore.

It seems like Nicktoons and CW4kids is not as popular as Toonami was. I took a survey with local kids last year around my area on what shows that kids watch the most. The ones that got the most votes was Spongebob, Adventure Time, Phineas and Ferb, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, Pokemon Black & White, and Power Rangers Samurai. Sadly none for Kai and some of the kids told me that they didn't seem to find the show that interesting. DBZ came out at the time where CN was still at it's prime and was on after schools which mean that more kids was able to watch it.

It's certainly doing a better job than the current incarnation of Toonami would.

Of course not. There's too many choices today.
Nothing is going to become the stalwart center of any network anymore, because there's DVR, home video is relatively cheap, and people download almost everything. There's also ninety billion other channels to choose from with other things on. It would be suicidal for Nicktoons to even attempt to make DBZ Kai the center of their programming the way CN's Toonami made DBZ their center for so long. No one show is going to do it anymore. It's just not the way TV works now.

^This, and Nicktoons' DBZ Kai probably doesn't have nearly as many viewers as DBZ did when Toonami aired it.

I don't think it'll ever reach the popularity it once was purely down to, as people have said, the huge amount of other stuff out there and the free availability.
Saying that though, those who do get hooked on this and come back to revisit it will at least have had a dub that was pretty accurate and a score that didn't melt your brain with its constant drone.

Re: Is Dbz Kai on Nicktoons becoming what Dbz was on Toonmai
No. But, I think the situation is kinda similar. Before you pelt me with rocks though, I'm not saying DBZK is as popular as DBZ was on Toonami.
DBZ on Toonami and DBZK on Nicktoons both aired and got popular enough to warrant more episode to be dubbed\produced. I don't know the whole deal but, it almost seemed at one point Nicktoons was scrambling to get anything they could with the DBZ. They aired most of the movies and TV speicals... I don't know. I think in a way, it's a very similar situation.

I feel that they did a pretty good job with making Kai appeal to kids, but at the same time, their airings of everything else Dragon Ball have been terrible. They've been airing GT and the movies with the original English dub and American broadcast music. I feel like they're just trying to copy Toonami's formula for success around 10 years too late.
I mean, their advertisements even have the same tone. They sell it in the same "come watch strong guys punch each other" way that Toonami did.

Re: Is Kai on Nicktoons becoming what DBZ was on Toonami?
It's nowhere near as big as it used to be on Toonami. I mean, it was HUGE back then. There were kids all over the place that knew about the series, but nowadays I hardly ever see a kid that knows about Dragon Ball. There's a few, and I think that's thanks to Kai. But even though it's not as big as it used to be, there still might be some kids in the future that have some nostalgia for Kai.

I read once that at the height of its popularity in the USA it scored 1.7 million kids 6-11. That's huge.
At most Nicktoons airings scored 750.000 viewers of all ages, which is sadly less children than at its prime.
However (And dont you guys kill me for saying it) Toonzai/Vortexx's airings of DBZKai scored 1.3 million viewers of all ages. Still less kids than at prime but A WHOLE LOT more than Nicktoons.

Wow these kids have a better thought process than the hardcore toonami fans. Maybe these kids should teach them a thing or two.TheGmGoken wrote:I just saw an Nicktoon Dbz Kai promo. Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Re: Is Kai on Nicktoons becoming what DBZ was on Toonami?
I think Z Kai was very successful to Nicktoons. I believe the reason they're now airing anime titles like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Digimon is because of how well Z Kai did. Nicktoons, or maybe even Nickelodeon if they choose to switch over to it, may very well become the new destination for day-time anime.
Re: Is Kai on Nicktoons becoming what DBZ was on Toonami?
I bet if they had Kai on today's toonami it would be doing more for the series than nick toons does. Damn. I reaally miss those old toonami days :'(

Re: Is Kai on Nicktoons becoming what DBZ was on Toonami?
I think Kai uncut on Toonami would have work better since most people who watched Kai on Nicktoons were the fans of the series. DBZ was the thing that most people remember about Toonami. Having it on that channel would appeal to wider TV viewers.

^Funny you can say the same for DBZ
. The newer shows like Samurai and Mega Force are popular with kids and older fans since they have been doing well with toy sales and ratings. A better step up then the Disney PR shows which didn't do that great from what I can remember.

Coming from the Dragon Ball fan, whose series began as an anime in '86, and a manga in '84?SSJ6Goku wrote:lol Power Rangers!? People still watch that!? That show is like craaaaazy old!
Besides, Power Rangers first came from using stock footage from assorted series of Super Sentai (which began in 1975 with Himitsu Sentai Goranger, 1992's Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger became 1993's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and 2013's Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger is the current series *and third Dinosaur-themed series*).
The Ginyu Force (you know, the Ginyu Tokusentai) was inspired by Super Sentai, since Toriyama was apparently watching it with his son at the time. In fact, Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman introduced an evil Sentai (Ginga Sentai Gingaman *not to be confused with Seijuu Sentai Gingaman in 1998, which we got as Lost Galaxy in 1999) only a week apart from when Toriyama introduced the Ginyu Force I believe (which is odd).
As for the promos...I'm sorry, nothing Nicktoons does will top Toonami's promos by Peter Cullen (aka Optimus Prime). I still get shivers in my spine hearing that amazing voice doing those promos (Now there would have been a voice to get for narrator, lol):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq3ciHZPe7Q
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qlfi-qPhzA
I'd love to see Kai get on Toonami. They could have Kai go on Toonami for the cable broadcast, and Kai could go either to Nickelodeon, or stick with Vortexx, I'm not picky there. An uncut run on Toonami with all the other shows would just be awesome. While we wouldn't get Cullen promos, the guy they have now did do some of their old promos as well (I believe for Z as well...maybe the movies).
RIDER KIIIIIIICK!
