With Namco Bandai's license expiring in 2015....

Post by Silkman3003 » Sun Jul 14, 2013 10:53 pm

Is there a good chance that they'll simply renew it?

Or do you feel that the license for Dbz games will be handed towards another publisher by that time?(If that's even how it works out).

Where do you see the future of DBZ games going or heading?

Most likely they will renew the license. I can't think anyone else that would pick up the license to the franchise.

I'd like to see Capcom picking it up and then giving it to Dimps to make deep DBZ fighting games as the Street Fighter series are.

We would probably see gaming tournaments (EVO 2013, for example) of it if this happened. ^_^

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Finals: Eightarc Bronson Tran Vs. CafelD Nin - Evo 2013 Day 1

Tekken Tag is a Namco Bandai game but we know that Namco will never do a DBZ-Tekken style game because for years they never did such thing. This fight was pretty damn sweet!

Bandai has held the Japanese license for nearly 30 years. A renewal is most likely.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Exactly, I mean I love Street Fighter, but I hate its mother. Id love to see NetherRealm Studios take a crack at it but that'll NEVER happen.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

Capcom will be releasing new DLC (for SSFV4) and they'll release also a physical version but at least they don't charge rip-off prices like NetherRealm's Injustice, which you pay $20 just for four characters. Fuck you NetherRealm.

People are so focused on hating that forget that there's others who do much worse than them, and Capcom's getting better with pricing and content finally.

Sony did the same thing with Playstation All Stars.

That's a pretty unfair comparison without acknowledging the different business practices that BENEFIT the consumer.

You're talking about characters that are available separately from each other so you can build the roster you want instead of buying characters you don't necessarily want, you still get compatibility patches so you can battle online against people with those characters, they regularly put the DLC characters on sale, etc. It was the same with MK9 as it is with Injustice. Furthermore, they put out a "Komplete Kollection" for MK9 at a reduced (non-$60) price down the road that did include all of the DLC (characters, costumes, etc.).

It's like you just make up these scenarios to be angry at video game companies about instead of logically analyzing it and seeing some of the benefits. Like the vast majority of gamers online. Let's not be that, OK?

Capcom doesn't force people to upgrade, sure the primary edition might be unable to be upgraded but the second edition is usable and as such they don't have to buy it again unnecessarily.

* DLC update with new characters & stages for $14.99 and how much does NetherRealm charge for only characters?

For the customer's side Capcom's doing a much better deal with a lot more content than NetherRealm offers for their games.

You're not telling me anything I don't already know, and at the same time you're explaining your own understanding of it to a point where I have to question if you have any clue how the games you're not even playing work.

No-one is forcing you to buy the Mortal Kombat or Injustice DLC characters, either. There is no gun to your head.

Furthermore, like I already said, you get FREE compatibility patches to compete against people WITH those DLC characters so you're not excluded from the online community (just like SSFIV got the AE compatibility patch without you needing to purchase the actual expansion), *AND* I'm fairly certain that the Komplete Kollection version of MK9 is backward-compatible in terms of being able to connect and fight online with people that own the original version of the game.

So, in essence, you're making up a scenario to be mad about where one doesn't exist. It's because you don't understand how the games' distribution works. The one tiny only little thing you can rightfully claim is that it sounds like you prefer character expansions to be all one giant pack as opposed to piecemeal. That's fine. But... there's still nothing to be mad about (see: everything I already typed).

That makes me think about how much I like updates and DLCs.
Let's face it, creating new contents or correcting things for a game after it was finished has always been there before.
They were just implemented on later versions for other countries, on the next disc printings or on a new edition clearly stating there were improvements with its title.
Final Fantasy VII, pretty much all Resident Evil since the first one, Silent Hill 2, Kingdom Hearts with its "Final Mixes"...

It's just that now, we get to skip the part when we have to buy the whole game again and possibly another hardware to go with it...
We can instead pay a small fee to have it directly implemented to our current version.
And that's the thing, we CAN if we want to, we don't HAVE to.

You find the content interesting to add to your game and think it's worth the price? Buy it.
You find the content uninteresting? Don't buy it.
You find the content uninteresting but the price too high? Make an effort to spend more than it's worth to have it or choose that it's not worth so much money and skip it. The choice is yours.

Personnaly, I love this idea of being able to enjoy a full game and then be able to improve it, buying improvements I deem interesting and worthy of payment, improvement that will make the experience even better.
It's just like entering an "improve your game" shop and being able to put the products you're willing to buy in your cart and passing by the products you're not willing to buy.
And just like in reality, sometimes you'll find things you want, things you clearly don't want and things you want but find too expensive and therefore reluctantly buy or choose that "I can't afford it, too bad, I would have liked it".

Just like the manga edition didn't stick to the Tankobon saying "that's our finished product, let's leave it at that" but tried to update it with the Kanzenban and then the Full-Color comics, I don't think a work that is "easy" to manipulate should be left as is without trying to improve it even after it's deemed complete.
Improving things in real life (cities, new streets, new buildings...) takes a lot of efforts, money and years. Improving things in an already shot live-action episode or movie is really not easy, you have to call back the actors, make sure the added/alternative parts will look natural, and again quite a lot of efforts, time and money (and your disc won't be "updated" to add extra scenes, you'll likely have to buy another version of the disc/video altogether).
But in video games, just a handful of months is enough to improve or add things to your game programming (new areas, new characters, new gameplay mechanics, new special effects, new secrets...), and that's something developers should not ignore, it's an advantage video games have, to be able to easily become "even greater than they already were" just a few months after their release. The provider can actually keep working on the product even after said product has been completed and is between the hands of the customer.

Cause just like any work, it may seem perfect and complete when you release it, but a few days/weeks/months after, you're bound to think "oh, if I'd had more time, I would have done this too" or "I should have done it this way, it would have been more efficient". And nowadays, developers have the possibility to fix mistakes or say "there was a potential for something really good there, it's too bad we missed that opportunity" or "too bad we didn't have time to do this before the release" and then say "but wait, we can do it now to make it all even better"!

Yes, like anything that brings new possibilities, some people will try to take advantage of it in sad ways. Updates and DLCs are a great thing, it's the people using them that may be either "good" or "evil" according to you.
But that will always be the case with awesome new possibilities: some will use them well and for the greater good, others will take advantage of it in sneaky ways for their own benefit. That's the whole thing behind most hero stories.
And you're free to have an opinion on who is which, on who's a good seller or not, on what's a decent proposition or not, and free to pay for good deals and ignore bad deals, just like in any shop. 8)
I'm just glad that now we have those possibilities to extend finished products we love BEYOND the great products they already were.
