Most of this usually only happens as a kid. Moments where you were shouting "Don''t do it Vegeta" because he was about to let the villains power up or you were like "Don't quit Goku, you can do it." as Goku stepped down from the Cell games. Most of these probably only happen to first time viewers.

When Kuririn didn't press the button on the remote to turn off the androids. So many people give Vegeta so much shit for letting Cell absorb 18 but when Kuririn had the perfect chance to end it everyone seems to slide that under the rug.

Well, it's just cause that's understandable.
Most people in Vegeta's situation wouldn't have let the enemy get what he wants at the risk of killing everyone and destroying the world. We're not Saiyans!
But on the contrary, I guess most people in love with a beautiful young girl would have felt unable to cold-bloodedly and sneakily kill her. We're humans!

Well, at least that's my guess, I guess people just relate more to Krilin's choice than to Vegeta's, so that's why Vegeta gets "so much shit" as you put it about Cell absorbing C-18.
Plus, Krilin's intention was not for it to end with Cell absorbing C-18 and putting everyone in danger, while Vegeta's intention was clearly to take the risk of jeopardizing everyone's lives and the whole world for his own pride/curiosity.
And it's the intention that matters as they say for gifts.

Mr. Satan saved the universe. Mr. Satan has every right to brag. He is the only character who has never died. Mr. Satan could have beaten Cell if not for his stomach ache and loose footing. But people like to believe in light shows and tricks.

When Goku threw the Spirit Bomb at Majin Buu, I yelled, "Now die you son-of-a-bitch! DIE!" I then covered my mouth out of fear of being heard by my mother who thankfully was not home at the time, or else I would've had a hand imprint on my face for days. (This was back when my mom was still the stereotypical "Southern black mother who will slap their kids in the face if they curse within earshot of them").

Shutting off 18 would not have been cold blooded. As sad as it might make me, I would have no reservations about shutting her off so that Cell couldn't reach his ultimate form. Plus, once Cell was dealt with, the Dragon Balls are there.

While he had his halo, if he had died, then he would have ceased to exist. Later in the fight, after he was wished back, he could have died normally.
