Did Goku knew he was going to die at Cell Games?

I know he wanted Gohan to unleashed his power and that's why he was so confident and I know he told everyone he can only save Earth with Shudokun Ido but the entire mood and tone of Goku well to me seemed a little weird even f he counted on Gohan's power. Did he have a bad feeling? To me he just seemed more of the type of person who was just enjoying his last days while he was waiting for the Cell games.

Goku wanted to relax and for him and Gohan to enjoy their time together because he was confident Cell would not be a problem.

He planned all along to fight first and concede and then to let Gohan step in, this would give Gohan an advantage knowing he would then know how Cell fights and to add he knew Gohan's hidden power would come out if he was pushed too far by Cell.

I don't believe Goku had planned on dying or thought he would die.

^It's not that he thought Cell wouldn't be a problem, but he had reached their limit as far as their training goes. After a certain point it's just torturing your body.

Apologies for the (semi-) necro post, but the thread didn't seem old enough that it would be a problem.

I definitely subscribe to this theory after a recent rereading/rewatching. It really seems as though Goku was trying to get his affairs in order, and get everything in place for after his death. He appeared to try to live his last few days without regret, and close the book so to speak (or so it seems). His collecting of the DBs before the Cell Games seemed pretty solemn, the relative opposite of the fun journey at the beginning of the series.

Maybe I'm just overthinking this, but that was my most recent impression.

I believe this was in the manga too, but perhaps I'm mixing it up. I remember Kaio suggesting that to him when he's looking for New Namek, and Goku mentioning that Bulma had said the same some time earlier when he chimes in about the group attempting to resurrect him.
