DBZ Characters are nerfed for Crossovers?
Like in the TorikoXOnePieceXDbz crossover Goku had to transform to fight Toriko and Luffy, then he had to go super saiyan 3 to defeat that fish, well I know the fish did absorb Gohan's energy first giving him a frigging great boost in his power but considering they are using BoG characters that means Goku should be able to do something without going as far as super saiyan 3.
Maybe the entire dbz cast was holding down? Vegeta Complimenting Zoro's and Zebra's power level? (like that would happen).
I loved the special. I know it would be weird to have Goku sweeping the floor with all characters too. But it kind bugs me just a little XD

There's room for only one snake, and one big boss.

They wanted a fun special. Not just something boring with DBZ winning easily. Notice how One Piece and Toriko was still shocked at the abilities of DBZ.

Exactly what Goken said. It's times like this, when watching specials like that one, that you've just gotta shut off your brain - or at least the part of it that analyzes power debates - and just enjoy the special for what it is.
Either that or it'll drive you insane. Besides, like you said, if they just had the DBZ crew wipe the floor with the others, then it wouldn't be any fun.

Did we watch the same special? The race had to blanket-ban flight, Goku was clearly the strongest of the three heroes in the match-up, so much so that Luffy and Toriko had to either ignore him or double team him, and Goku was the only one with the means to kill the Super duper Toro. Not to mention having the fish go for Gohan first was perfect because A) It makes sense that Gohan would be caught off-guard by it B) It gives the fish a huge initial power boost, and C) It shuts up anyone who would inevitably ask why Gohan didn't just Mystic-stomp the darn thing. The special power-scaled Dragon Ball about as well as it possible could, and the Dragon Ball characters were still clearly the strongest.

While the DB characters are shown to be the strongest, they still appear weaker than they actually are in DB.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:Did we watch the same special? I didn't think about power or fighting while watching the Crossover, it was all about pure fun with the characters from DB,OP,Toriko.
Re: DBZ Characters are nerfed for Crossovers?
If you're watching a crossover between products and think "why aren't they stronger?" you probably should stop watching it.

Which they had to be, and that's not a problem. I was really just saying "Goku had to be nerfed to make an interesting special, and yet despite this Goku is still vastly stronger than either Luffy or Toriko, and both sets up and delivers the finishing blow on Super Toro... what more do you want?"DBZGTKOSDH wrote:While the DB characters are shown to be the strongest, they still appear weaker than they actually are in DB.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:Did we watch the same special? Which is absolutely true, and funny in my case, because I didn't go in thinking about character strengths at all- it was only when the special itself was clearly unsure of how to handle Goku that I started noticing!Storm wrote:If you're watching a crossover between products and think "why aren't they stronger?" you probably should stop watching it.

Crossovers are done for fun. I don't think crossovers care about character A being stronger then character B.

Arthur in MVC3 can beat Galactus. I normally try not to take crossovers too seriously. They most likely made Goku go SSj3 defeated a giant fish just to make the fight look cool.

For what its worth, Toriko's characters are becoming insanely powerful. Recently, one character used a immobilization technique that briefly stopped the planet from rotating.

Which translated the rotational energy into heat and melted the planet's crust, right? Right?rereboy wrote:For what its worth, Toriko's characters are becoming insanely powerful. Recently, one character used a immobilization technique that briefly stopped the planet from rotating.
Re: DBZ Characters are nerfed for Crossovers?
I mellowed out now that i've seen the special. But what now bothers me more is what is with the weird sound effects? Could they not use the regular one's from DBZ? On topic I like how they kept Goku the strongest. SSJ is really pushing it and I would have rather seen Goku use Kaio-ken (so we can see it again) or just a base Kamehameha.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Re: DBZ Characters are nerfed for Crossovers?
Hey everyone, thanks for the different insights for this subject, I can see I'm not alone in this. however I think I didn't explain myself so good, seeing Goku so nerfed did annoy me, but that doesn't mean I didn't love the crossover episode! I loved every second of it, just certain aspects were kinda weird, but like i said, Had goku been able to punch a hole through Toriko would have not been as fun as the little but cool fight they had in the first part! :3

Re: DBZ Characters are nerfed for Crossovers?
When it comes to crossovers, I don't mind if characters are nerfed to serve the story better. Of course, it would be ideal if the story could be written well without nerfing anyone, but with the power difference between Dragon Ball and most other manga/anime that's having too high expectations to demand that.
I haven't actually seen the DB / Toriko / OP crossover, now that I've become a fan of Toriko (already one of OP and obviously DB) I should probably get around to that if I still can, although I don't know if I'm far enough into Toriko since I'm only keeping up with the English manga.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

It created a pretty big tsunami as a secondary effect but, of course, completely scientifically accurate shonen manga doesn't exist.Rocketman wrote:Which translated the rotational energy into heat and melted the planet's crust, right? Since that probably wouldn't stop Toriko, it would actually be pretty cool.Black_Liger wrote:...but like i said, Had goku been able to punch a hole through Toriko would have not been as fun as the little but cool fight they had in the first part! :3
If you have read all english volumes you can safely watch the crossover.Saiga wrote: although I don't know if I'm far enough into Toriko since I'm only keeping up with the English manga.

The crossover was fun, if they just let them be as is I'd think toriko and luffy may have a huge gaping hole in their stomach.

It was just a fun crossover. It gets annoying to see DBZ fans on Youtube getting all upset that Goku was on par with Luffy and Toriko.
Is it possible to watch DBZ with epilepsy?
