I feel like episode 64 is constantly being brought up as the only aspect of GT that they actually like, but I feel like we never go into why we actually like it.
Fire away, guys!

For me, this scene here really sums up the mood of the episode. It's got that happy nostalgic feel to it, but at the same time it's also got the sad, "everybody's getting old" type mood to it. Throw in the whole "Goku, are you..." mystery element and wow, I really love the GT finale.

Someone asked me to explain the ending to them and I ended up pretty much describing how I feel about it so hopefully you won't mind if I just copy and paste it in here:
He certainly died. Vegeta knew he had, which is why he turns to Pan, who is holding his torn up gi, and says, 'Cherish that'. The fact he flies off on Shen Long's back still wearing that gi and in perfect shape should be evidence enough.
We see the dragon balls slip inside him, a merging of sorts and this is pretty much where you can make up your own interpretation. Personally, I see him as becoming a spiritual spectator of Earth. Once a man who protected it over and over, he now merges with the very thing that facilitated his efforts over the years as he slips off into legendary status akin to how Shepard is seen at the end of Mass Effect.
We see a specter of him at the end as he watches Son Goku (Jr.) fight mini-Vegeta. He grins whilst walking away, almost implying that he's happy to see an old rivalry form in a new generation with a combined strength to take on whatever fears await in the future - without the need for the dragon balls.
It's such a beautiful and poignant ending that I really have to commend the GT writers despite some shortcomings throughout the series.
It's one of my favourite episodes of the entire franchise. However, Kei17 had me really questioning how I feel about the 'legendary' bit - he made a point about how Goku is really a silent protector, he's not one who has ever really been popularised inside the world, that's Mr Satan's role, so to have him with a statue and all these people seeing him for what he did over the years, whilst nice, is perhaps not in line with the rest of the series.
Either way, I still love the ending.

I absolutely love that scene.

IT was perfect. Just needed better flashbacks

.. But everything was perfect. I think the Statue of Goku wasn't for the Earth. It was for us. The fans. It signals the end of a franchise.

To quote myself from another thread on a similar topic:
DBGod wrote:I thought the ending wasnt too bad, I actually loved the montage, I could watch it over and over again. Sure it could have been improved, but its still fine. The thing is, the funimation dub completely fucked it up, it didnt have the dan dan track, and there was talking from the characters in the montage. There was also no Japanese text scroll, which is another huge downer, but that is due to the fact that Toei and Funimation weren't able to grab the older master tapes.
Overall, I thought it was funimation that made it seem worse than it really is. I think this is a particular ending, Blue Water completely excelled at. Of course, Japanese will always be the best. However, Blue Water dub beat funimation in every aspect, from audio, music, to having the Original Japanese Credits in-tact.
If you have any Canadian dubbed recorded material and would like to preserve it, please PM me!

The finale of GT is the best in the franchise but I hate to see it and it makes me very sad, tears in my eyes! The original background music is perfect too but increases the sadness of those moments.
Kame Senin says " Goku, are you? " And then " Goku, tell Sheng Long thanks for the Dragon Balls for us ".
Goku really died? Maybe at first but he lacks of halo or aureole ( Dead characters in Dragon Ball Z tend to wear halos ). For me Sheng Long help Goku in the final battle against Super Yi Xing Long and Goku now belongs to the Sheng Long´s or Dragon´s dimension! That was the cost of the Sheng Long´s help!

With so many fan meetings, someone really could ask Toei, what happened to Goku? I loved that ending, and i liked that Kamesennin was also able to tell that something happened with Goku, i still didnt`t like fact, that Piccollo had to die.

The thing is, there is no definitive explanation as to the whereabouts or happening of Goku. This ending was intended to be open to interpretation. Thats one reason why I love it, because you are not sure if Goku is dead, alive, or present in another form. Thats up to the viewer to decide.
