Were you satisfied by the English dub of Kai?

I personally loved most of the new voice work, and am glad that they decided to be a bit more faithful to the manga.

With the actual dub itself, yes, more than satisfied. Hell, my only real interest in the series initially was a new, more faithful dub, and they delivered on that in spades. There's still some issues surrounding the dub that I'm not fond of how they apparently went down, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment too much in the end.

Yes. I just has a issue with random American jokes. But that's understandable. Sean wwas the best reason to watch this to be honest. His voice and Chris Ayers's Freeza was just perfection.

It's above and beyond the initial dub, that's for sure.

My only real issue with it, and has always been my issue with the English language versions, is that everyone is still incredibly exaggerated in comparison to some of their Japanese counterparts. Sabat, in particular, is the biggest offender - his Vegeta and Piccolo is so incredibly harsh sounding that it bothers me. Likewise, Kaio-sama's (or King Kai's) voice is still far too over the top but I guess, being so distinctive now, there's not a lot to be done about that without causing an even bigger outrage than what the replacement voice actors caused.

Those are really just nitpicks, it's a solid product. A mostly accurate script, Japanese attack names and a better portrayal of each character, there's not a lot I can really complain about! Sure, some of the acting is still a bit iffy but it's mostly rare and bearable.

Yes, I was completely satisfied. There were a few minor hiccups in the writing here and there, but when I hear the phrase "Kai dub," it's not the hiccups that first come to mind. What first comes to my mind first when I hear the phrase "Kai dub" is the Freeza arc, which had exceptionally faithful writing and excellent acting, especially from Chris Ayers as Freeza (whose performance Anime News Network called "one of the best English dub performances of the last decade," and I agree completely). That's the biggest impression the Kai dub left on me, and it was a good impression.

Then again, I'm a little odd because it seems that the hiccups that bothered me didn't bother other people as much. For example, a lot of fans here didn't like Nappa's "I HATE THE MEDIA" bit, but I thought it was funny and perhaps even a subtle tribute to DBZ Abridged Nappa. Conversely, I really thought that Freeza's line right before he killed Kuririn, "Hope you aren't afraid of heights" was an incredibly odd thing to say considering that this is a show about characters who fly, but it didn't seem to bother anybody nearly as much as it did me.

Mostly. Schemmel is still a bland Goku and there are a handful of unfitting casting choices, but it's the best English dubbed Dragon Ball anything that is out there.

Cell's voice sounds weird in Kai, like he is straining himself all the time while reading his lines or something.

The music I don't really like though... at least after they replaced the old music.

But otherwise it is pretty good.

Not having Meredith McCoy as 18 is just a major boner killer.

i can go either way with it... the new voice actors for Gohan and the like are a bit to get used to, but i do like the new dialog... the fact that it's more to the original Japanese dialog is nice, and the one thing I REALLY liked was to hear Sabat yell "makankosappo" instead of "special beam cannon"

As others have said, Chris Ayres's Freeza was phenomenal. Not wowed by the voice (still a little too much gravel for my taste) but the performance was top shelf, and he really did the character justice.

And what they replaced it with is my favorite moment of the Kai dub. Excellent acting from both Ayers and Schemmel, and excellent writing/adaptation. And I'll never forget my mouth opening in (pleasant) shock when I heard Goku say, "I AM THE SUPER SAIYAN, SON GOKU!"

I point to that scene as the perfect symbolic example of everything the DBZ dub did horribly wrong and everything the Kai dub did beautifully right.

As someone who has always put the dub under a microscope and been very critical of it, I found myself largely satisfied with the new dub.

No, it's not perfect: Sabat retaining all the characters he did was still frustrating (even though I think he's a fantastic actor and person, I just think he played TOO MANY CHARACTERS, and his Recoome is still meh), Schemmel as King Kai, and some inconsistencies with attack names, not to mention a weird unnecessary joke here and there. But otherwise, it's leaps and bounds better than the original dub, by far.

The recasts were top notch. I even much prefer Colleen over Meredith McCoy. People seem to forget how BAD Meredith's acting was and how OLD she made her sound. Not to mention, she's not SUPPOSED to be totally emotionless or a complete hardass.

With Kai as an end product it's just not a fun ride for me and I prefer the original Japanese Z or the funi dub over Kai any day (except for the part where Schemmel does the "Ally to good" speach) because at least in those products the voice actors don't sound bored.

The voice acting overall feels either bored or over the top but consistently phoned in. Sabat is incredible but when he did Vegeta going Super Saiyan for the first time in front of people in Z it was leaps and bounds more intense and awe inspiring then when does a couple of grunts and boom look he's blonde. I found the recasts were at best...Colleen Clinkenbeard makes the show almost unwatchable especially when Gohan goes Super Saiyan 2...I could not have been more disappointed.

Kai is the product I always thought I wanted and am sorely disappointed in its shortcomings.

I was reasonably satisfied. The script accuracy was improved by many degrees, the returning cast had, for the most part, improved in their performances, and the new VAs were all quite excellent. It's all and all a pretty good dub. It doesn't quite rank with the Japanese version or even the best English dubs, but it is very watchable (or should I say listenable).

Hopefully they can keep up the quality when they dub the Buu arc and/or the newest DBZ movie.

I think that's more a problem with the direction, remember Chuck Huber took the "I am a robot" approach in Z too and he sounded much better in Kai. As for making her sound too old she sounded more like a deep voiced tomboy, I have a friend who's 17 and she has a voice about the same pitch as McCoy's #18. Not every girl has a "tee hee let's all have a big bowl of strawberry ice cream" voice, just like how not all men have deep voices.

I was quite satisfied with Kai love it actually the original Va's showed so much improvement from their original efforts. And the new editions like Chris ayres as frieza j Michael Tatum as zarbon and colleen clinkenbeard as gohan were awesome. Awesome experience can't wait for the buu saga

For the most part yes. Everyone is miles better than the terrible acting in the Z dub and all of the changes were great. I really loved the music before Kikuchi's got poorly placed after Yamamoto's got taken down. My only gripe is I haven't completely settled with Clinkenbeards Gohan. Her early Gohan was great, but Cyborg and on wards I haven't really settled upon it. I don't know why. Maybe I just don't like the boy voice IDK. It's still better than Nadonly for the most part, but it's still hasn't fully grasped me.

hell yes!!!! however, I do not like music as someone already said, it just doesn't match up imo, and I dislike's Gohan's new voice. It was almost flawless up untill the Andriod/Cell arc, I didn't like it so much, probably because its my least favourite saga, can't wait for Buu dub!!!
