Discussion specifically regarding the "refreshed" TV version of DBZ created in Japan for its 20th anniversary, including individual threads for each episode.
This is mainly due to YouTube fanboys brainwashing me into thinking it sucks,
So when my mate borrowed me it, he was like its basically DBZ and I was stunned, both visually and audiolly (is that even a word ) the dialogue of the dub was phenomenal and for the most part the new VA's were great, ie. Freeza
However, as I mentioned in another thread I miss the DBZ soundtrack and Gohan's new voice took some getting used too
But All in All I regret not starting this sonner,

First rule of life: Don't let someone on the internet influence/talk you into things. I can understand folks' disdain for Kai for all of the material it cut out (some of the original Z material was great.) But just saying the dub/music is bad, shows that they're delusional and are blinded by nostalgia for the old FUNi/Ocean dubs.
Glad more and more US DBZ fans are starting to see the quality of Kai.

Second Rule of Life - When it comes to Dragon Ball, don't believe a word of what the youtube fanbase says.

That's the second rule? I thought it was the first rule?

The real second rule is occasionally mock the youtube fanbase when they really deserve it.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
I prefer Dragon Ball Kai as well...
I apologize to the DBZ Fans,i'm a big fan of Dragon Ball too,but you need to analyze DBZ properly to understand why we prefer DBK.
TOEI tried to connect the DBZ movies with the show, even knowing that the movies didn't make sense chronologically.
They created Garlick Jr Arc,but Dead Zone can't fit,Goku's friends found Gohan's existence in this same movie but became surprised in the 1st episode when Goku told that was his boy... Icarus,Gohan's friendly Dragon appeared in Three of Might,a senseless movie, but he had a few scenes in the show.
I know DBGT is all the way filler/anime only, but, even in that show they showed Cooler escaping from Hell.
So,DBK for me,its not just the 20th anniversary edition of DBZ,its the remake we all deserve,a clean adaptation without flaws like DBZ had it along the way.
I know some people miss the good ol' OST,but what matters indeed its the story, and thats all there folks.

Dude I was the same way until I bought season 1 of kai and the new dub completely blew me away. I love dbz kai more then the original dbz now because of the new and improved dub.
As I mentioned before I was one of those fans very early on when they first started watching the show they were blinded by the nostalgia and didn't like the changes that were made to it. However, over time I gave it another chance and now I love it! So much better than the original Z series. Honestly, this is the definitive version of Dragon Ball Z
