How do you feel about the manga's ending?
It was really not that good of an ending. It lacked a proper sense of finality and there weas so much we should have saw, like Uub becoming a great warrior and surpassing Goku. An excellent ending to the series would have been Uub surpassing Goku in an final, epic battle!
GT continued where Z left off, but you know ... GT sucked.

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
I don't think an 'epic battle' would really be needed, it was heavily implied what the outcome would be and to focus on it would reduce the impact of Goku's touching goodbyes. GT's ending is what I take to be my personal canon ending but I have no issues with Toriyama's. It was sweet, touching and open enough to imply there was more to come for all the characters.

Uub surpassing Goku wasn't heavily implied because Uub showed up at the last minute of the manga. Goku doesn't have to leave for the series to end.AjayLikesGaming wrote:I don't think an 'epic battle' would really be needed, it was heavily implied what the outcome would be and to focus on it would reduce the impact of Goku's touching goodbyes. He specifically mentions that Oob hasn't reached anywhere near his potential and that he could be the protector of the Earth.
The thing is, that's not exactly the point of Z's ending, he's not really intended to be this major character that you want him to be.
The whole ending to me, just reinforces Goku's character and how will always want to battle the better opponent to improve himself...and that just so happens to involve Oob who he clearly sees massive potential in.

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
I go through phases when I think about it.
As of today: I think it was a great way to allow fans to imagine the rest of the story for themselves...
But then: I don't wanna have my ideas be the ending I want Toriyama-sensei to tell me how it all goes in the ever expanding world that is Dragon Ball!!!
Overall I feel like we as fans got cheated lol or let down. In fact I liked his initial apology at the end of the manga! I mean seriously, the Buu arc ends, we get a 10 year time jump, 10 YEAR TIME JUMP
AND THEN a tournament -_- where Uub and Goku leave -_- ...it was the same thing that left me disappointed when the TV series Weeds ended...really huge drama and a time jump!? THAT's IT!!!!!! I just gave you people like 7 years of my life and you leave me with this!!
Here' all the stuff off the top of my head that I would love to have seen expanded:
Vegeta and Goku now have a mutual respect for each other, what could they now do...together...in furtherance of a friendly rivalry?! What if they left Earth to train thinking everything was all good and a big baddy shows up!!!
Goten and Trunks are child proteges what will they do!?
The Namekians became relevant again when they helped Earth, what will happen to them!?
The Kaioshin have hung out with mortals...now what! I mean cat's out of the bag on the whole afterlife thing?!
If Buu was an ancient evil what else has been sealed that gets awakened that these guys can beat?!
Did babidi have a kid or more hench men that we don't know about???
What happens when Uub and everyone else is dead?!
Gero have any more androids lying around?!
AND what about Freeza's sydicates!!!!!!!!!
NOT to mention this little thing known as Trunk's alternate timeline...will Buu be awakened there.
And let's not forget Vegeta's half breed daughter Bra!!!?!?!?
And what about Tenshinhan...he's back and then he's gone!!
All of this stuff was just yearning to be expanded and made better, but no our beloved author was understandably burnt out...I just wish he could have taken a year off at the end of the Buu arc and come back renewed ready to go.

The manga ended the way it started. Goku on a new journey!

The manga ended, the adventure didn't.

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
The major character I want Uub to be is someone we watch progress and mature to a fighter even greater than Goku. Of course Uub may have not been intended to be that character; the manga ended before any of this could happen as Toriyama just wanted to get the series over with. The manga's ending may represent something else, like Goku's adventures being never ending as it has Goku going off on yet another journey, but Uub surpassing Goku would have been a much deeper and effective ending.AjayLikesGaming wrote:He specifically mentions that Oob hasn't reached anywhere near his potential and that he could be the protector of the Earth.

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
Although abrupt, I overall like it. Goku becoming a teacher and all, even for selfish reasons.
Another huge battle would have been probably a little lacklustre.
I'm hoping if they do more sequels to BoG, they will provide the ending in a new context.

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
Horrible ending, just terrible. It made me question why I had spent the past few months marathoning DB and Z, and also spent so much money collecting the series. It also made me hate Goku, who I steadily ended up kind of disliking over the course of the series anyway. The Sopranos ending was better to me for God's sake (although since I'm late with seeing any movie, watching any TV show, later than anybody else, I already knew about that ending).
The "revised" ending that Toriyama drew was like rubbing it in, even worse (leave Kinto'un alone DAMN IT!). However I've "come to terms" with it if you will, especially realizing how much sense such an abrupt ending makes given Toriyama's writing style. I simply made a resolution to never revisit that last part of the series at all.

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
It wasn't that abrupt. The whole Uub thing was an epilogue. It could have just ended with Kid Buu dying.

I liked the manga's ending, even though it was sad it ended it wasn't sad how it ended. I do also consider GT's ending the end in some respects, sorry Toriyama.

An epilogue is the same thing as an ending.mAcChaos wrote:It wasn't that abrupt. The whole Uub thing was an epilogue. It could have just ended with Kid Buu dying.

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
No, it's not. As epilogue comes after the ending. In Dragon Ball's case, the ending would be the events pre-time skip and the epilogue itself is everything that follows. They give you insight into how the other characters are doing and give you an open ending that could potentially imply a sequel. That's one of the many definitions of an epilogue.Dr. Machismo wrote:

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
Oh, my bad.
Still, ending the mangaa with the defeat of Majin Buu doesn't have enough finality or closure. Nor did the epilogue

I don't think the ending was meant to have closure... it was meant to be an open ending. I think Toriyama did that on purpose.

He probably did, because he just wanted to get the manga over with.DBZ Mick wrote:I don't think the ending was meant to have closure... it was meant to be an open ending. I think Toriyama did that on purpose.
The Piccolo's arc would have been a great ending to the series, and it was also open.

Re: How do you feel about the manga's ending?
I think it was more to imply that they were still going to have adventures and stuff in the future. Like even though we weren't going to see them anymore, things would be the same still.Dr. Machismo wrote:He probably did, because he just wanted to get the manga over with.DBZ Mick wrote:I don't think the ending was meant to have closure... it was meant to be an open ending.
