Lately, the boards have slowly been shifting in attitude from discussion about Dragonball to which medium (video game, manga, anime, daizenshuu) is the best, or "most real." As a result, people have been lording their views over others and have become exceptionally lax in how they phrase things (intentionally and non), which often results in a shutting down of the other person's opinion because they favor another medium. This inevitably leads to an end of possible discussion on that person's part, so they always have to back up their stance. If they do, they're regarded as having started a fight. Not a debate, not a continuation of the discussion, not an argument; a fight.
We've even gone as far as to coin our own derogatory term for someone who prefers the manga ("manga purist" for those pretending they don't know what I'm talking about). That's an exceptional accomplishment, unfortunately just exceptionally.
In defense of those who prefer the manga, please note that many of those you would label a "purist" because of their "constant" pointing out of what they enjoy about the manga and dislike about the other mediums are often only doing so because an extensive amount of forum goers are lording what they enjoy about the anime (without realising it, we have a lot of "anime purists" here too). This puts people on the defensive, so unless they completely agree, a reaction will undoubtedly occur: either they'll defend the manga, or they'll get pissed, or other. No matter what they do, however, they'll be labelled a "purist" and everything they say will therefore either be ignored or attacked.
What's happening at the boards is just another list of people to add to the above series being offended. Let's all try to remember that we shouldn't be attacking people in our posts, and that we're not necessarily being attacked by people in theirs.Excerpt from the Forum Rules wrote:RULE # 5: ATTITUDE
Be respectful of your peers. There are people of many different nationalities, ethnicities, sexualities, etc. If someone's factually incorrect, don't be afraid to correct them... but be nice about it. In turn, don't be a jerk if someone corrects you on something. Believe it or not, you don't know everything there is to know! Your opinions must be expressed with civility.
Naturally, I'm not exempt. When people egg me on, I throw eggs right back. I've even been known to toss in a few rocks at the same time. I'm only writing this post because EX hasn't addressed the issue, since he has even less patience with this crap than us, and will normally just lock a thread if the problem goes on too far. Unfortunately, we've carrying our issues with us to the next thread.
EX's comments are always along the lines that he's amazed he even has to tell us to stop or to lock a thread, and with good reason. We should know better, so let's act like mature people instead of like those of the old forums of yesteryear.
