Funimation plans for 2016?

Post by Hellspawn28 » Wed Sep 25, 2013 3:53 pm

I know it's early, but do you think Funimation will do something special in 2016? 2016 will be the 20th anniversary of the US dub of DBZ and I think FUNI could try to cash in on the nostalgia. This year, Saban and Bandai release a shit ton of MMPR stuff to cash in on the nostalgia of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I know Power Rangers is view more popular then DBZ since MMPR had a bigger impact on 90's pop culture then DBZ did. If we don't get the DB boxes, GT boxes and DBZ Movies boxes soon then 2016 will be a good choice to release them.

The "Rock the Dragon" set would have made sense for a 20th anniversary. Since that's already out, I don't see what, if anything, they could do special that would be relevant to said anniversary.

"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

^I'd buy that for a dollar :D ! I think a new line of DBZ toys would be cool. I can't imagine the last time I saw DBZ toys at local toy stores that casual people will buy. The S.H Figuarts are only sold at collector places for hard core collectors since those figures not for kids to play with.

A gag dub.

Oh wait, they did that for two decades.

Um.. penguintruth, don't you think you should let it go and move on with your life? No offense but the way you keep mentioning it, you're sounding like a nerd stereotype.

On topic, don't know for DB what will be done. Maybe new movie if something comes out. Or likely Impel Down or the Paramount War in One Piece.

Maybe my 2016 they'll finally have the rights to dub Battle of Gods.

I think it's more an issue of holding on to what's passed when dealing with the present (if I'm correctly guessing his intent). It'd be like making snide comments to DC Comics about the Silver Age Batman quite regularly despite that interpretation of the character being far removed from the modern product.

For better, the Z style dub is done and in the can, and now we've got the superior Kai to enjoy.

For my suggestion for the 2016 DBZ anniversary, how about releasing a bilingual release of all the specials that have stayed in Japan? Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans/Super Saiyans *why not both?*, Yo! Son Goku and his Friends Return, and Episode of Bardock. Throw in some commentaries, bloopers, etc, and it could be a nice celebration.

You can't imagine how scared I was after watching DBZ and one day I stumbled upon Cartoon Network.

I would love Dragon Boxes someday again..... But that will never happen.

Actually, a majority of his posts are informative and add plenty to the discussion. The occasional joke here and there does not warrant this asinine response from not only you, but everyone else whining on here.

This is a Japanese focused site and there's many here who find Z's English dub insulting. You don't get to decide how and when someone expresses that opinion.

If you have a problem with someone, use the ignore feature and you'll never have to see their posts again.

I'm the one that keeps deleting your posts, by the way. Posts don't magically disappear. If you post something and it's gone, it's a very rare occurrence, and it's for a really good reason.

Pretty much in agreement. Not liking someone's comment doesn't give the right to start tossing out "troll" and further unnecessary comments. Either contribute to the actual discussion (and not this side-tangent meta-discussion), or don't bother posting at all. Post awesome things that add to the conversation. That can be a relevant quip, sure. It can't be, "Hey, I feel the need to point out after all of your posts that your posts are not posts that I think should be posts."

I'm pretty much breaking my own rule, but as the administrator, I feel I have to just to get things back on-track... and that's what I expect everyone else to do going forward, because this is making a big deal out of nothing.

Hey, I'd totally buy a R1 release of all the Big Green dubs.

Not to bring back up the argument, but while I completely agree that there's no need for personal attacks, I can't help but also agree that there's really no need to make comments that are obviously intended to upset other people when there are better ways to put it. Especially when said jokes aren't even beating a dead horse anymore, they're working on resurrecting the force via dark magic so they can kick it anew.

That aside, I'd have to agree that the Rock the Dragon set probably would have been better saved to put out in 2016 if that is an anniversary coming up. I can't really think of anything else they could release during that year that would directly tie in to what the anniversary is about, so they may have to just have it tie in by proxy of being....well, something new and Dragon Ball related.

Or hey, they could always put out a set that's just the three Ocean dub movies alone, so that I could snag that. That would be awesome. Unlikely but awesome.

Would 2016 be the time for them to do it? I know DBZ is really what got them going but they had released DB in 1995 and DBZ didn't gain traction until they got on Cartoon Network. And IIRC they got on Cartoon Network when Toonami launched and that was 1997. I guess it would be easiest to just base it on original air date if they want to actually call it a anniversary but I wonder if they will. And of course DB and DBZ could be separate. But will they do a DB 20th anniversary release in 2015 or wait till 2021 since the DB run that actually showed more than 13 episodes didn't start until 2001.

That's what I meant.

As for plans, been re-watching G1 Transformers lately, and kinda wonder if a new timeline could be done similar to how Transformers have different timelines. But would like to also see dubs of the DB/OP/Toriko special, and wonder if jokes will be made of Toriko reminding Luffy of one of his crewmates. (Funimation just announced the voice actor for Toriko, Ian Sinclair will be voicing Brook in One Piece).

Maybe they could faithfully redub, like, all 17 of the movies? It's kind of sad none of them are really up to Kai standards. Don't all the Z ones have replacement scores?

Dragon Box the Movies with all 17 movies, Japanese audio, classic English audio and redubbed English audio, that'd be awesome...
