Music that reminds you of the old days?
For me, "Mind Power... Ki..." has this odd effect of making me think of the older days of Dragon Ball, back to my childhood growing up watching the show.

This one. Probably the only track I remember from the Ocean Dub, way back whenever it aired on Toonami.

Re: Music that reminds you of the old days?
I guess for me the thing that takes me back the furthest DBZwise is Rock the Dragon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c8FzDm4Gbo
It was the opening theme in use back then, and even for a while after they started airing our BGM. It's no wonder some people think Faulconer wrote that...
If you want to go back to my childhood then you have to switch shows though. Transformers G1 was the DBZ of my generation.

Totally brings me back to sitting in front of the TV after school.

Re: Music that reminds you of the old days?
Chala Head Chala and Kikuchi's recap music, that's what takes me to the old days watching the show in TV. It was so magical watching it in TV, full episodes, when there was virtually no easy way or getting it on the internet, nor I've ever thought that something like import exist!

Easily the music used in the Weekday Toonami ads for DBZ.
Oldest familiar one is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFL0byKeHSI

Even though it's the "ally to good" quote this whole ad just sticks out in my mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNzfXO0iD8U
"You might think you know everything there is to know about me, but really, you're not even CLOSE."
"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." ~ Sir Winston Chruchill / Dragon Ball Z in a nutshell

Re: Music that reminds you of the old days?
Some of the earliest CDs I got were bootlegs of the first two Super Butōden soundtracks (I think from Toys & Joys...?), but what sticks out to me so vividly was getting in the five-disc (daizenshuu) set. It was probably 1998, or very early 1999. We had these gigantic, wood-panel, 1970s stereo speakers in our basement hooked up to a CD player. I very fondly remember tossing that stuff in and specifically listening to "Aitsu wa Son Gokū" and the way the little noises/plucks/whatever at the beginning of the song fade between the left and right channels. Due to the way we had the speakers separated, it was like the song was floating across and filling the entire room.
I had probably heard the song before (likely an MP2 from Wuken's site, or something like that), but hearing it that way was like hearing it again for the first time. Very strong feelings of happiness and excitement associated with that!

The other huge bring me back song is the Faulconer Vegeta themes with Bells as well as the Super Saiyan music.
For Dragon Ball its easily the opening Makafushigi Adventure!

Re: Music that reminds you of the old days?
Some of the Toonami promos really turn the nostalgia switch on. Other than that, the intro used after Rock the Dragon. I think it's just called Dragon Ball Z.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

The Budokai soundtrack brings back some good memories of playing with friends and air guitaring to some of the tunes in those games. I remember I would sometimes play the intro all the way through to those games just so I could hear the opening song.

Ahhh the Buu one with Peter Cullen (voice of Optimus Prime). That's sheer awesomeness. I freaked out the first time I heard him doing the Cartoon Network promos. 'cause like I said, TFG1 is the DBZ of my gen.Chuquita wrote:Easily the music used in the Weekday Toonami ads for DBZ.

Also in case you didn't know, Sonny Strait (Kuririn) did the voice for the Toonami robot.

Re: Music that reminds you of the old days?
I'm not even that big of a Transformers fan (certainly not for G1), but even I get shivers from Cullen's voice in the Toonami promos. The man's got an incredible set of pipes, that's for sure.
Music that takes me back huh? Hmm...certain Falcouner score tracks certainly do that, especially stuff like the Super Saiyan Vegeta them or the Super Saiyan 3 theme. I think the one that takes me the furthest back with the Japanese track though is probably um...crap. What was the name of Trunks' theme from Butouden 2 or whatever again? I used to have a midi of it, back when I had dialup internet and MP3s weren't even an option, and I listened to it constantly.
Yup, though he only did it for the original smaller 'T.O.M.'. Once T.O.M. went through a re-model, they moved the recording over to LA, and T.O.M. has ever since been voiced by Steve Blum. I still like Sonny's original version too though.cRookie_Monster wrote:Also in case you didn't know, Sonny Strait (Kuririn) did the voice for the Toonami robot.

Re: Music that reminds you of the old days?
Trunks' theme in the second and third Super Butōden games is just called "Trunks' Theme". The 32-bit era, specifically Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout, is where "Hikari no Willpower" comes from (and even then, it was initially just called "TRUNKS").
