Mayumi Tanaka/Kuririn Songs?
I was wondering if there were any songs that Mayumi Tanaka did for Dragon Ball at some point, other than 'Asu Hiru Yoru Kimi Boku', and what CD's they might be on? I really like the song, but I've never been able to find any other ones that she would have done. Plenty of Luffy songs, but nothing else for Kuririn.
Come to think of it, are there any specific BGM cues that are considered themes for the character?

From what I can find, there are at least 2 other songs by Tanaka. HIPPY HOPPY SHAKE!! and Ichido wa Kekkon Shitai Manbo. The former is in Dragon Ball Z Hit Song Collection 17 and the latter is in Dragon Ball Z Hit Song Collection 8.

Considered by us or by Toei Animation?Gyt Kaliba wrote:Come to think of it, are there any specific BGM cues that are considered themes for the character?

It seems that all pieces tagged with J<number> were planned to serve as a character themes.
J17A, J17B - Kame Sen'nin theme
J6 - Shenlong theme
For me, Makafushigi Adventure! (A3, A6, A7, A8, A9, A10, A11) is a theme of Goku, Romantic Ageru Yo (B2A, B2B, B3) is a theme of Bulma

After the first recording session, everything was tagged with M<number>. Many of them can be related to something:
M106 - Red Ribbon
M309 - Tao Pai Pai
M501 - Piccolo Daimaō
and many others.
I think that one music piece from Majin-jō no Nemuri Hime can be related to Kuririn - it starts at 6:08 (presumed number: M407).

Re: Mayumi Tanaka/Kuririn Songs?
Kuririn has a very specific jingle / entrance BGM in DBZ Movie 11 which I've always absolutely loved. Fairly certain it's Track 15 on the soundtrack ("Kakko Ii Zo Kuririn").
If you do a search for "Tanaka" on our "Hit Song Collection" page, you wind up with:
.
I don't remember possible-M407 off-hand, but I don't really think of any other motifs in terms of Kuririn and BGM.

- "HIPPY HOPPY SHAKE!!" from Hit 17

Re: Mayumi Tanaka/Kuririn Songs?
Woot, thanks for the help guys. I knew that in all the long history of Dragon Ball CDs, there HAD to be something else.

I can see that, especially for Romantic Ageru Yo. I don't know if that's because I'm so used to the animation that accompanied it (since it's so Bulma-centric), or if it really just fits her that well.Kojiro Sasaki wrote:For me, Makafushigi Adventure! Huh, I've never noticed that. I'll have to go check that out on my copy of the movie. I'm assuming it's from when he re-appears later in the movie to 'save the day', not from just his first appearance in the movie?VegettoEX wrote:Kuririn has a very specific jingle / entrance BGM in DBZ Movie 11 which I've always absolutely loved. Now that needs to have been done as a full song somewhere.VegettoEX wrote:So you've got three vocal tracks, one piece of BGM, and then Kuririn singing in DBZ Movie 8.

Re: Mayumi Tanaka/Kuririn Songs?
That little jingle is actually a reprise of Kuririn's "theme" from Dragon Ball movie 02. It plays while he's introducing himself to Muten Roshi. Its arrangement is a little slower than the movie 11 version, but it's undeniably the same composition. It didn't get used often, but I'm happy that Kikuchi remembered it.VegettoEX wrote:Kuririn has a very specific jingle / entrance BGM in DBZ Movie 11 which I've always absolutely loved. I can't remember where this got started, but isn't "Win Tough Fight!" from Kai supposed to be a theme for Kuririn? I remember reading that a lot back when the first vocal song collection came out. It sure as hell would have been better if Mayumi Tanaka had performed it.
"The Sleeping Princess Of Devil's Castle."Gyt Kaliba wrote:Majin-jo no Nemuri Hime?

That's correct. It's when he pops in to rescue #18 from Broli's Ki blasts.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I'm assuming it's from when he re-appears later in the movie to 'save the day', not from just his first appearance in the movie?

Ah, great catch. Been years since I've watched that movie, so I wouldn't have made the connection.MagicBox wrote:That little jingle is actually a reprise of Kuririn's "theme" from Dragon Ball movie 02. What likely happened is:MagicBox wrote:I can't remember where this got started, but isn't "Win Tough Fight!" from Kai supposed to be a theme for Kuririn? - A listing goes up for the first Kai Song Collection that notes only three possible inclusions: songs for Kuririn, Saiyans, and Vegeta.
- When the thing actually comes out, there is no Kuririn-specific song, so people tried to make some sort of connection

Re: Mayumi Tanaka/Kuririn Songs?
Ah, gotcha. Thanks! I had forgotten how exactly all of that played out. I'm glad someone agrees with me about the vocals. Yō Yamazaki just ruins it for me.
If anyone's interested, I think an homage/update of that Kuririn theme pops up in the first Broli movie, when Kuririn's acting all macho in front of the aliens. I think it's called "Son Goku Has Arrived" on the second Ongakushū CD. I can't remember if it was used anywhere else.

Huh, that's pretty cool. Did they use the same 'theme' in episode...14, I think, when he first appeared in the TV series too? Or did they use another piece of BGM entirely?MagicBox wrote:That little jingle is actually a reprise of Kuririn's "theme" from Dragon Ball movie 02. Ohhh, duh. I probably should have been able to figure that out just from my familiarity with 'Majin' and 'Hime' at least. ^_^;"The Sleeping Princess Of Devil's Castle."Gyt Kaliba wrote:Majin-jo no Nemuri Hime?

Music from the second movie was first used around episode 81Gyt Kaliba wrote:Huh, that's pretty cool. Did they use the same 'theme' in episode...14, I think, when he first appeared in the TV series too? Or did they use another piece of BGM entirely?

Episode 14 air date: 28.5.1986

Ohh, okay. I figured as much, but while I knew episode 14 would have predated the second movie (heck, it predates the first movie I'm pretty sure), I didn't know if the BGM was new for movie 2 at the time or if they'd pulled it from somewhere else.

Wow! That's fascinating that you know the date of the recording session for DB Movie 2! Where did you learn about this?Kojiro Sasaki wrote: M400 recording session: 24.06.1987 (Movie release: 18.07.1987)
Those behind the scenes tidbits are often present in original Shonen Jump. Do you own this Shonen Jump by any chance which contains information about DB Movie 2?:

DB movie 2 info:

That was published on June 22, 1987 so just two days before the session so maybe that announced it here? Also why did the recording session only last ONE DAY? I know the recording session for Star Wars Episode 3 lasted 2-3 weeks. That's strange...
P.S. June 24, 1987 is the day when I was born. Not that it matters but still...

Re: Mayumi Tanaka/Kuririn Songs?
One forum member was so kind and sent me description from Daizenshū set (1994) and BGM Collection (2006) booklets. Actually, they didn't say there that "this series was recorded in this day", but you can easily figure it out.tronk21 wrote:Wow!
