Android 17 and 18s infinite power supply theory?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Android 17 and 18s infinite power supply theory?

Post by shreddinghead » Wed Oct 30, 2013 1:58 am

It's stated by the androids them self that they have an infinite power source. Since this likely contradicts physics, i was thinking that maybe there's an explanation that don't. What if, 17 and 18 doesn't have a power supply with an infinite energy source, rather their engines pick up air from the atmosphere they surround them self in that manipulate it to electric energy? That way the duo don't need to physically restrain them self to recharge their batteries, excluding the infinite energy theory.

Infinite is impossible, but it's in the narrative.

In trying to make sense of it in real world terms, I think some sort of nuclear fission device makes most sense - as that would ensure an extremely high output of energy for potentially billions of years, and would also explain the fact that the Cyborgs have very large bombs inside of them.

With our current understanding of physics, such a device would be impossible. You have to resort to science fiction to explain it.

Something like a zero point module from stargate (which is a kind of energy generator that extracts vacuum energy from a small artificially-created region of subspace, based on the concept of zero-point energy) would explain it.

I wonder if #16's strength was the limit of the Infinite Energy Generator?

I've always rationalized it as "infinite energy" in the sense that they do not get fatigued but can be overpowered.

The analogy works when you consider the example of a device that takes a 9 Volt battery. If one were to invent an infinite power source for such a device, it would still only draw 9 volts from it, albeit perpetually as the power source would never be exhausted. The Androids may have an infinite source of energy, but their operating parameters dictate that they can only use as much as they were originally designed to, and unlike entirely biological beings they lack the capacity to go beyond their pre-ordained limits.

Dude, nice! You just took my theory even further beyond, I'm sticking to that :D

Maybe it doesnt last forever, almost seemingly...say half of Full Power Perfect Cell's level or something.

That's what I believe. I think #16 is the first Infinite Energy model Gero created, and he took it to the limit that he was capable of. The Android ABC said that Gero restrained 18's power compared to 17 to try and make her easier to control, and I believe that the same thing happened from 16 to 17.
