Re: Dragon Ball GT Gets Anime Comic Series
I guess the BOG anime comic did well enough for them to make this. I don't care about this since I don't like GT. I wonder how well this will sell since GT is not very popular with fans compare to DB and DBZ.

Interesting.
My main gripe with GT (aside from absurd plot details) was always the pacing of the first arc and the beginning of the Evil Dragons arc. I imagine that will no longer be an issue with this adaptation. I wonder if they'll retcon anything with this!

At least this is less pointlessly pointless, in a small way, then the DBZ series ones, I guess? I mean, GT never had a manga, so...at least it's a way to read it, or something? I'unno. *shrugs*

Interesting. These "Anime Comics" are the one with the screen shots right?
I wonder if the'll fix some of the pacing issues.

This is there chance to redeem GT! They can have it make a wee bit more sense, power scaling-wise, if they made Goku a SSJ or SSJ2 against Uub in the opening fight. They should also do the same with Goku vs Freeza and Cell.

Re: Dragon Ball GT Gets Anime Comic Series
I doubt they'll do anything that revisionist. Note this says it's an 'anime comic', not a real manga. It's likely going to just be screenshots thrown into comic form.TheMightyOzaru wrote:This is there chance to redeem GT! Honestly, they should look into revising GT at some point. I really don't think it would be that hard to fix.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I doubt they'll do anything that revisionist. The term canon should seriously be filtered around here.

Re: Dragon Ball GT Gets Anime Comic Series
Releasing a bunch of screenshots of a show as a comic is pretty contemptible.

DB is an ever-expanding series. "Canon" is something that deserves to come into question when a product is spread across multiple mediums, especially when said products delve deep into the "who vs. who" realm. It helps us keep track of what's bullshit and okay to ignore when we think about these things.TheMightyOzaru wrote:The term canon should seriously be filtered around here.
I'm sorry that it's not your cup of tea, but it's a question that's been asked and will continue to be asked as long as Dragon Ball exists. One of the first questions newbies will ask is "where do the movies fit" because it's hard to make a correlation to strange details and "what-if" scenarios. It's just part of the fandom, any fandom, be that unfortunate or not.

Re: Dragon Ball GT Gets Anime Comic Series
The question will never truly be answered though because Shueisha and Toriyama will never say what is and isn't canon. Trying to debate over the canon of Dragon Ball is entirely pointless.Tyro wrote:DB is an ever-expanding series. Re: Dragon Ball GT Gets Anime Comic Series
I disagree, slightly anyway. It's pointless when people take it way too seriously of course, but so long as people keep in mind that nothing is firmly locked in place, it's nice to be able to talk about where we think certain stories fall in line with other ones.TheMightyOzaru wrote:The question will never truly be answered though because Shueisha and Toriyama will never say what is and isn't canon. The problem is that people seem incapable of keeping that in mind.

Re: Dragon Ball GT Gets Anime Comic Series
I have no problem with reasoning where certain things take place, but canon has nothing to do with that. Canon puts into question whether or not something exists. Pre Crisis Superman, for example, is now non-existent because he was declared non canon.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I disagree, slightly anyway. Re: Dragon Ball GT Gets Anime Comic Series
GT is not view canon to the manga given AT had nothing to do with it other then doing some artwork for it. I'm pretty sure this comic is going to have the same bad writing, placing and humor that the TV series had.

More than anything else, it's likely the ever-growing success of Dragon Ball Heroes and all of the GT-related updates. For the kids getting into the game, there's nothing other than expensive DVDs for them to pick up relating to GT. This is a perfect and cheap move for them to make to cash in on that.
