Time for Kanzenshuu to pull off another AF-like prank?

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Thu Nov 07, 2013 3:15 am

Unless I'm mistaken, it'll be 10 years since the original Daizex crew pulled off the infamous AF prank next April. A lot's happened since then, Daizex merged with Kanzentai, we've had a heap of new animation, Julian's living in Japan and returning with news from Jump every week, there's been the 200 episode and Dragon Ball H*shi rumours, people seem to think Kanzenshuu is an official guide book, it's pretty much become the whole internet's source for DB news...does anyone else think these are perfect circumstances for doing another "new series" prank? It'd be so much easier now with social networking, the larger numbers of uninformed DB fans, the amount of new animation there is to work with.

Of course, this would be pretty irresponsible for a reputable site like Kanzenshuu; especially when you consider how much bigger it's gotten since the Daizex days, but I can't help but think of the possibilities...and the repercussions. It'd be decades before people stopped believing it.

Well yeah, but I was on the train one day, and this old mustached guy wearing sunglasses muttered, in perfect English, something about great power coming with great responsibility, or whatever.

You don't suppose he's right, do you?

Please be cautious. A lot of places aren't like Kanzenshuu. Their members are like children; they'll believe anything you tell them. It's like Whose Line is it Anyway: the content is made up and the sources don't matter. Please nothing like an Akira Toriyama interview from "Super Otaku Magazine." It took years of keyboard rage to make it common knowledge across the interwebz that it was a fake. Seriously, even if it's obviously a fake, if it talks about some part of Dragon Ball people like and gives them an answer they want to hear they'll take it, no questions asked.

Other than that, go wild, guys!

Julian comes on the podcast and pretends to be Toriyama, and the answer to any question will be "What's that?" "Oh, I forgot that was a thing."

A fake hostile hacking takeover of the site by an extremely rabid youtube dub fan who knows his way around computers and programming.

All current mods and admins are "Banned" and the hacker crowns himself the new 'Emperor of Dubzenshuu'. The filter for dub names is completely destroyed, allowing all members to post whatever they want to call the characters.

The podcast section is either removed entirely (AKA Hidden but still accessible by other means) or all podcast links link to the "trolololol" video.

All members posts must start with "Hail *username of hacker*" or risk being banned and all of your personal computer details stolen.

All members must donate a specific sum of money or risk being banned and all of your personal computer details stolen.

Quality of the website quickly goes spiraling down with many users choosing sides, copyright infringement is everywhere etc.

All hope is lost...until a few days/week later when everything is all back to normal. Everyone but the mods and admins seem to remember the events that had happened.

If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect! Scientist's agonize over the attempt to achieve perfection! That's the kind of creatures we are! We take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to reach for something that in the end, we have to admit may in fact be unreachable!"

How about false interviews pranks? I mean it'll be funny seeing people using Kanzenshuu fake "interviews" as source seeing as some use fake interviews now. Just keep the interviews up all April. I remember last year...well this year still. Kanzenshuu did a fake Toriyama made a new series post.

That wasn't even meant as a prank. People on the Internet just have poor reading-comprehension skills. :problem:

Is this what you guys are referring to?

If so, then I've seen some of the responses to it. Reading them just makes me...sad. But it did make the posts, where people actually understood what it was about, that much better. I assume that grey banner at the top was a later addition? Even so, I don't know how anyone can mistake that for an actual news post.

It's not even a lack of reading-comprehension skills. There's an image with a giant red 'X' through it. You can't get any clearer than that.

Fortunately, it seems like all of the rumours regarding a new series have died down.

They could do something funny like Micheal Bay got the rights to make a DBZ live action movie. Goku won't be a alien and instead a mutant created by humans  .

While I loved the AF prank back in the day, it was a singular wonder that I don't think really necessitates repeating. My current line of thinking tells me that Kanzenshuu has evolved even further into a mature entity that deserves to both take itself and be taken more seriously. It can still have fun without resorting to such elaborate stunts... or worse, deliberately feeding disinformation into the fanbase (particularly at a time when almost every rumor seems to be embraced as fact, more than ever before). Such a prank nowadays is a pointless sort of ruse whose conception, planning and execution would take time away that could be spent delivering real content, which by itself probably takes more effort than it used to given that the staff are in much different places both personally and professionally than they were ten years ago.

But hey, I'm not staff. It's just an opinion and a guess.
