Seeing as Kai had no english insert songs and instead had songs like Saiyan Blood and Only a Chilling Elegy, id say slim to none. The Hero insert song will still be in it and the score left untouched.

Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
I think what's being asked is whether or not, if/when FUNimation has the rights to work on Battle of Gods, that they would replace the soundtrack to the movie with the "real American bands" a la last decade's dubs of various DBZ movies.
The answer is a resounding "no". They don't do that crap anymore.

Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
Exactly. You have to look at the times. The "real American bands" were inserted into the dub because in the early 2000s, DBZ's profitability was at an all-time high in the States, and FUNimation probably had the money to spare to buy the rights to use these songs. Also, they didn't have nearly as many series to release back then.VegettoEX wrote:I think what's being asked is whether or not, if/when FUNimation has the rights to work on Battle of Gods, that they would replace the soundtrack to the movie with the "real American bands" a la last decade's dubs of various DBZ movies.

Now, in 2013, though FUNimation and DBZ are still doing well, the series isn't as popular as it's zenith in the early 2000's. That, and FUNi has to release so many more titles nowadays. The money they could use to secure a band's songs to use in a new DBZ production would be better spent in the quality of the dubbing, or the licensing & production of another title.
Also, we live in the age of the interwebz. A lot more people now know about the unchanged, original version of DBZ compared to the old Toonami days.
So... what Mike said. Nope.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I just wonder if we are gonna get the English Versions of Flow's "Head Cha La" and "Hero"

Why would they? The DBZ movies after Movie 5 didn't have any, I don't know why people think this.

DBZ Movie 8 also had the "real American bands" in that dub. Movie 10 had one song, I believe.

Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
I totally forgot about DBZ movie 8 and 10. Also it seems like movie soundtracks with rock bands seems to be pretty rare these days compare to the 90's and early 2000's.

They won't do it. The guys who setup the "real rock band" soundtracks before are no longer with the company. Also Funi realizes they don't need to do that kinda of thing, especially since the original Japanese scores are sounding more modern these days.

The only Funimation singing voice I like is Vic Mignogna, so unless hes singing, just give us the Japanese versions.Kakarot88 wrote:I just wonder if we are gonna get the English Versions of Flow's "Head Cha La" and "Hero"

Seeing as how Funimation dubs anime now I guess we can say the odds are slim to none. Can't wait till people complain that Bruce F. Isn't scoring the movie though

Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
The odds are practically non existent. Funimation have said they want to stay as accurate as possible so they likely won't do anything to the soundtrack except maybe providing an english Cha-La-Head-Cha-La and Hero.

Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
I'm less optimistic. If FOX becomes involved in distribution here, they may request some tinkering of their own and put down the cash to get the songs they want. Not even Ghibli films are safe from this anymore, despite Miyazaki's "no cuts" mandate.
If it's completely up to FUNimation, though? Not a chance.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
I doubt they will throw in rock music to sell to a bigger audience. With DBZ movies, you can't release them to a wilder audience unlike the Ghibli films. Most casual people in the US are not even familiar with DBZ. I'm betting most people outside the fanbase knows nothing about DBZ other then the title of the show. You need to watch the show in order to understand what's going on in BOG otherwise you're going to be totally lost. A person who never saw DBZ will be like "Who's Freeza?", "Why he can change his hair into yellow?!", "How can these guys fly and shoot yellow balls?" and "How do these Dragon Balls work?".

Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
So, does Miyazaki know about the changes? Can he do anything about it? It doesn't make sense for them to do that. With DBZ I doubt they would, I mean, maybe dubbing HERO, but that might be it. I can't think of anything else.bkev wrote:I'm less optimistic. Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
Flow is the Japanese band that did the Battle of Gods music. They did 2 versions of Head Cha La and Hero. Head Cha La in English can still be bought online etc but Flow's version of Hero in English has so far only appeared in the Korean ads for Battle of Gods (maybe even the movies itself) but has yet to my knowledge actually been released available for sale.KentalSSJ6 wrote:The only Funimation singing voice I like is Vic Mignogna, so unless hes singing, just give us the Japanese versions.Kakarot88 wrote:I just wonder if we are gonna get the English Versions of Flow's "Head Cha La" and "Hero"

So my question is which version of said songs do you think we will get?

Re: Odds of FUNimation using rock songs for Battle of Gods?
It's appeared in every non-Japanese dub so far. Flow doesn't want anyone dubbing their song. Ricardo Silva revealed that during the production of the Latin American Spanish dub. I hope FUNimation uses the Japanese version. The English version Flow made defeats the purpose of a English cover, you can barely understand them.Kakarot88 wrote:Flow is the Japanese band that did the Battle of Gods music. If BOG came out 10 years ago, the soundtrack would have Spineshank, Godsmack, Disturbed, Rob Zombie and Disutrbed

That would certainly be...interesting, and it would be consistent with the original Japanese version's 'real Japanese bands' idea, but in our case using domestic bands would be unfitting.Hellspawn28 wrote:If BOG came out 10 years ago, the soundtrack would have Spineshank, Godsmack, Disturbed, Rob Zombie and Disutrbed.
