Annotating Dragon Ball

Anybody else take notes as they read or re-read the manga, or watch or re-watch the anime?
If so what do you take notes of? How do you take notes?

I like to take annotations in my phone. I usually jot down stuff on scenes in episodes I really liked whether it be visual, acting performance or lines themselves so I can reference it later if I want.

As far as the manga goes I take notes on that in comparison to the anime and see what's different or if I feel the line should be done differently. But mostly I make notes on in-universe kind of stuff and lines as well as art I find especially awesome. I do not mark up the books, because I started doing this about my 3rd time through the series on my phone so I've been using that.

I have an entire thing lol

I wanted to do a full "official" translation...not official because I think that my stuff is official, but because I did a translation basaed on FUNimation's official work. I have an entire list (episode by episode) of notes. Mostly in these are translations (Japanese title cards vs. US title cards, name translations, attack names, etc.) from FUNimation's spelling in the US version to Steve Simmons' translations. Also, along the way, I jot down any interesting information. I took down any ages that were told, any weird things that they said, even what was written on all of the background stuff (there is A LOT of writing/pictures in the backgrounds). So yeah. I have a WHOLE thing all the way from Dragon Ball through Dragon Ball Z. I started GT but then started law school and kind of wasn't able to do that anymore lol

Jeezus. That must have taken ages. Did you manage to create your own "officially" translated manga?

Oh yeah imagine watching the thing from start to finish in Japanese (with subtitles of course), pausing it every time there was an important fact to jot it down, then rewinding it to watch it in English to make a translation.

Never got around to making my own translated Manga. Although I do have the whole Manga and also incorporated that into my translation. So under "Names" I have like "Vegetto - Vegito - Vegerot" which basically means that the Japanese version of the name is "Vegetto," FUNimation's is "Vegito," and the manga's or Viz' is "Vegerot." I did the same for attack names, locations, basically anything that has a name in the series.

The funniest was the minor characters that had no names in the Japanese version (and were not in the manga) but had dub names. So I have them as like, "Unnamed - Spike" or something like that. Then I'd include a description of them so I know who it is. I plan to go take snapshots to put the image to the names.

I kinda, sorta did this when I was watching through the entire franchise subbed for the first time. It wasn't super detailed notes, but I did note things that were different from the dub, how I felt about seiyuu compared to various dub voices, music that I liked, and that kind of thing. This was all in a super huge thread I had going on (the previous incarnation of) the FUNimation Forums. Unfortunately, I don't think I backed up every single bit of it into a word document, so some of it may be lost now, bah.
