Do #19 and Gero visually mirror Goku and Vegeta's natures?

Post by Ringworm128 » Sun Nov 24, 2013 9:58 pm

I'm pretty sure Toriyama didn't intend it but I've always thought that #19 and #20 looked like visual representations of Goku and Vegeta's personalities. Goku fights #19 a big fat clown that could work as a visual representation of Goku's naive energy filled personality and love of eating. Then there's Dr Gero/#20, Gero being an angry old man could be seen as a mirror to Vegeta's pride, arrogance and detachment since old men are sometimes associated with being over stubborn and very bitter.

Anyone else notice anything similar with certain characters?

No. 19 and 20 reminds me nothing of Goku and Vegeta. Nothing at all. Nothing remotely similar. Gohan and Krillin relationship has more in common with Vegeta and Goku than 19 and 18. Only only characters that remind me of past character is Yamu and Sppovich. Who are kinda similar to Vegeta and Nappa. Both in height and who is the boss.

There used to be characters in the series that mirros other characters like the TheGmGoken already said about Yamu and Spopovich.
For example Pikkon mirrors a lot of from Piccolo both with looks and personality, but 19 and Gero mirros Goku and Vegeta's natures? Don't think so :P

I think you're reading a little too deep into this....
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

Yeah, there's no way in hell that was Toriyama's thought process in designing 19 and 20.

It may not have been Toriyama's thought process while designing them, but I still think it's an interesting comparison to be made nonetheless.

I surprisingly agree with this, although altered a bit.

Dr. Gero and 19 mirrors the way it was supposed to be, if Kakarot never lost his memories.

19 and Gero remind me more of Vegeta and Nappa. A dolt that just follows orders and talks shit, and the brains. That could be said about a lot of villainous pairs we see in the series; it's the recurring bad guy qualities.
