Dragon Ball 3-in-1 problems thread

Post by eledoremassis02 » Tue Nov 26, 2013 5:52 pm

While they were branded as being uncut and uncesored (and they weren't, though they said there fixing that)

What other problems have you had, if you had one, with the release?

I notices my Volume one, a lot of the darker scenes have ink issues, like the ink did not take:

Volume Two had ink splatter issues, there were the worse two pages:

Even with these flaws, I do like them because I really like their size, compared to the other manga in my set

Viz got back to me about the ink splatters finally and said to return them, which is not possible since it's far away and past the return window.

They also added this, even though I never mentioned "uncensored" issues.
However, please be assured that the first edition of volume 2 is completely unaltered (aside from Mr. Popo- which was far too offensive for our editors to leave in in good conscience). This decision to remove racist depictions will be uniform throughout all of the 3-in-1 releases of Dragon Ball.
Guess they've been getting a lot of e-mails.

I get the thing about Mr Popo's lips, and it was unlikely to ever change, but it's kinda misleading that they're advertised as "completely uncut and uncensored! ... Except for this one thing." Despite the reasons for it, if you're going to make that claim you can't really be selective about what is actually uncut/uncensored. All or nothing, y'know?

There's also the issue of how abysmally thin the paper in these three-in-ones always are, not just with Dragon Ball. When you can see the next page through the one you're currently on, the paper's just way too thin.

Exactly. If its not all, then its pointless. Recent editions of the manga had very few things censored besides Mr. Popo's lips, so they aren't actually removing a lot of censorship.

Yeah, I was initially excited for these 3 in 1s, but then issue after issue came up, and now I'm back to wanting the VizBigs at some point.

I wonder how the QC let that crap pass to the market. :?

As I've pre-ordered Full Colour Manga Dragon Ball #1 I have high hopes (looks like a high quality release) so they better not screw that up too.

Also, OUCH on that ink spill. By far the worst one I've ever seen.

On that one page with the ink spatter, is Kinto'un redrawn so that it covers Goku's privates? 'Cause that would also be censorship.

No, its like that in the original. Viz doesn't even censor Kid Goku's penis in the Vizbigs.

They're actually acknowledging the censorship issue?

Does this mean the physical full color release will have some repair work done? I'm not optimistic, but...would be nice to be able to support the release. Maybe we should all e-mail them about Piccolo talking in Yoda-speak for like 1.5 volumes.

Has the 1st volume been re-printed yet? Or is the mistakenly censored version still floating around?

All this thread tells me is skip these abysmal releases and get the VIZBIGS or Full Colors.

MY GOD that's a horrible ink splatter. More like ink DUMP.

This is why I decided to just skip all English releases and get the Japanese kanzenban. Viz is far from interested in putting out a quality release, and neither uncensored nor retranslated (OK, really long shot, I know) to boot. They always manage to colossally f*ck some damn thing up. This goes for just about all of their good manga, from Rumiko Takahashi to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and Masakazu Katsura (hey Viz, you might like something called DNA², great Sunday night manga for the whole family, it'll wipe that Disney right off the air HUEHUEHUEHUE.). I am scared for Assassination Classroom. Ho God am I scared.

Yu Yu Hakusho, One PIece and Rurouni Kenshin are about the only Jump titles I'm satisfied with as far as their job goes. (And One Piece still says "Zolo" doesn't it...?)

Anyhow, on-topic I guess, I bought vol. 3 of the DB 3-in-1s. I have no bitch with it I suppose. No big splotches of ink thrown silly-nilly everywhere. But I'm not going to get another one, I was just wanting to check it out for myself. Rather sad I'm hearing nothing but bad things.

The QC on these is atrocious. It's nice to have the series released as one collective Dragon Ball release like it should have always been, but the problems with this release are just too numerous for me to consider picking them up.

Overall, I've been satisfied with the printing since Vol. 2.. it was a shame to see ink splatters again though

This is a very cheap release so the QC isn't going to care too much for it unless customers decide to start complaining and demanding a change.

True, I've let them know every time I find something like this. I wonder if they use older printers on these? The edge of my volume 6's cover was also rough like there was an issue cutting...never saw that before

Just got a reply from viz
We're sorry to hear this is the second time your purchase has contained printing errors. We encourage you to return/exchange your volume at the place of purchase. Thank you for making us aware of these errors.

Thanks again,

It's all cool cause I bought from amazon and they are sending me a replacement + I can keep my other copy (no extra charge)
