DBZ games on PS4/XB1: What are the chances?

Post by GogetaSSJ2 » Fri Jan 03, 2014 5:24 pm

What do you guys think are the chances we'll see DBZ games going into next gen on the PS4/XB1? Do you think Namco Bandai will find an incentive to push DBZ games onto the next gen consoles? Or will the PS3/360 gen be the last console generation for DBZ games?

It's pretty likely. If Battle of Z sells particularly well then it's almost guaranteed.
With Battle of Gods likely getting an English dub at some point, there'll be an influx of fans wanting another DBZ game so perhaps that'll factor into it.

I guess we'll eventually get one on either PS4/XBone but for the time being, there is more incentive to release on now outdated consoles for various reasons such as their vastly larger install base and the production cost for development on Gen. 7 as opposed to Gen. 8 (not including the Wii U).

So, eventually, we will but not for another couple of years. If the franchise was at the level it was in 2007 right now, this could have been a different story.

Namco Bandai will probably end up releasing new DBZ games for PS4/XO/WU but that doesn't mean they'll be good or better than what was on last-gen.

If NB could release Advanced Adventure remastered in HD that would be awesome but a brand new developed Dragon Ball game would be even better, I guess it would be exclusive to Nintendo WU/3DS as these types of games don't usually hit Microsoft or Sony consoles.

Sure, if BoZ gets average sales then perhaps yes. Maybe tjey will try and take advantage of BoG giving new life to Dbz.

I think we will, but not for another year or two. We got HD DBZ games in 2008, nearly two years later after the PS3 came out and nearly three years after the 360 came out. If they are doing games once every two years then maybe BOZ2 will come out in 2016. It depends how well the game sales and how well the fans enjoy it.

It's absolutely a matter of waiting for / desperately needing an install base for the new systems. With the current sales they are looking at (looking at the total number of sales and the ratio of it to the install base of the systems they're selling them on), it seems to make at least SOME financial sense... since they're... well... still making them.

The new systems, though? It's gonna take some time. The comparison of when Burst Limit hit versus when those systems were actually first released is probably a pretty good indication of when to start expecting things.

Hopefully this gen will be an epic comeback that lives up to the PS2 era. I can see them doing 1 or 2 sequels to BoZ on PS3/XB360 first though.

Yeah, its gonna take a few years for the install base for PS4/XB1 to grow. This is why I'm predicting at least 1 more DBZ game after BoZ for the last gen consoles PS3/360. They want to take advantage of the 70 million plus install base for each ps3 and 360; I would say maybe 2016/17? It will be a while though, hopefully BoZ does well sale wise. IMO I'm not impressed with what I've been shown from BoZ so far, but I still wish it luck sales wise for the future of the franchise is at stake.

That's what happens when each game is worse then the last and Battle of z isn't changing that trend

IW was our last DBZ game for the PS2 era consoles which came out in 2008. I think we might get something special one more time for the 360 and PS3 like a BT3 HD collection in 2015.

This gen as in PS4/XO? This console gen has to be one of the worst for gaming in general, why?

Reasons:
1 - It feels like an expansion to the 7th gen than actually its own thing.
2 - Developers more than before now make use of real money to buy items in-game.
3 - Requiring to install every game on the HDD even though they're on a disc. SLW and Mario 3D World load quickly and they don't even have to install on the storage device on Wii U.
4 - Neither of the two consoles offer backwards compatibility like PS3 and 360 did, PS4 has the fair reason that it would've been expensive (The Cell) but Xbox One is just not doing because of Microsoft.

Not to seem like a Nintendo fanboy but I'm glad they're not in the mud with Microsoft and Sony because I hate this kind of bullshit that's on PS4/XO.

Anyway, I'm really hoping that this gen gets really a whole lot better for PS4 and XO otherwise it's going to be a shitty console gen for these two. Nintendo Wii U's doing its own thing without caring to compete against either of these two consoles.

You're not saying anything about Dragon Ball. You're just spouting out generic gaming talk and half-facts again as you are apt to do in a lot of these threads. Please, please, please attempt to keep your thoughts on-topic.

To me, this gen is still 360, PS2 and Wii since the new consoles haven't taken over yet. If it took them two years for BOZ to be made and we didn't get a new console game in 2013. I wonder what we could next year? Either another HD collection or nothing at all. My guess the next DBZ game line could be:

2016 - BOZ2
2018 - BOZ3
2020 - Possible new title

2016 is two years from now and let's hope BOZ turns out well for a new DBZ video game franchise. Burst Limit failed to start one and Raging Blast failed to get a third game.

Betting against any company with the word "Bandai" releasing a game based on a cartoon they have the rights to on any video game platform is like betting on the Cubs to win the World Series: while it may theoretically happen, history tells you that it would be incredibly stupid to make the bet.

Not to be pessimistic but I hope Battle of Z fails to succeed so it'll allow for a different developer to come along and give us a much better fighting game.

By the way, Burst Limit sold quite well (wasn't it like a million copies?) but for some reason it never got a sequel.

DBZ is lucky that we get games every year for the past 10 years. How many video games based on TV shows get as many games as DBZ does yearly for a decade. I still remember in High School wondering what a PS3/360 DBZ game would look like and hoping that they would look similar to the Tenkachi intros (My wish kinda came true in 2010). Makes me wonder what a PS4/XO DBZ game will look like.

I honestly think we could see one as early as 2015.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

I don't want to put a list of games here for PS4/XO but even by 2015 both of these consoles might still be lacking games and therefore it just wouldn't be suitable to release a game on them risking not making profit, however, Namco Bandai has had their cut of releasing DBZ games which failed to be profitable already so who knows what they'll do.

If the "hardcore" gamers are happy with shooters and sports' titles then Activision and EA can provide them those types of games.

Modern gamers: Graphics > Gameplay (Killzone Shadowfall looks amazing but it's a crappy game overall)
Classic gamers: Gameplay > Graphics (I'm one of them)
