DBZ in Australia

Post by MysticVegeta » Sun Jan 19, 2014 5:05 pm

Every year in Australia since it's popularity peak in 2003, Cartoon Network has been airing re-runs of Z (sometimes DB too). They did this up until 2011, when they aired Kai. After that run of Kai, not once has Dragon Ball Z aired on Australian television. It was replaced by (Promised myself I wouldn't cry...) this garbage called "The Amazing World of Gumball"

I'm wondering, with Kanzenshuu being the most knowledgable forum out there, can you tell me why the fuck DBZ isn't airing on my HD flat-screen anymore?!?!?!!!!!

Probably because it's just not that profitable anymore. It's a 25 year old show, the animation is outdated, and I haven't seen any merchandise on the shelves in years(apart from specialty manga shops and stuff like DVDs).

It's a shame. I have fond memories of sneaking out of bed to watch Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z at midnight on Cartoon Network.

I guess you'll have to get the DVDs? (I don't know if the Orange Bricks are still available, though. I saw Kai in JB Hifi a few days ago, but I haven't seen Z on the shelves for a long time.)

This... happens. Nothing stays on TV forever. I'm actually shocked DBZ was airing on TV over there as late as 2011!

Back in 2010 I think it was, Toasted TV did have DBZ on at 6am on Saturdays but I think they canned it quick.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

DBZ hasn't aired in New Zealand (on free to air tv) since I was in school.. maybe early 2000, very late 90s.. ?

I can vividly remember one commercial with Yajirobe proclaiming "We might just win this thing after all!" while hidden behind a rock.. during the Saiyan saga.

They've been re-running Prisoner for almost 30 years. Shame DBZ isn't on no more :'(

And it was Ocean dub I remember they got to Freeza. It sucks that I never had cable then and now I do and there is nothing good on. Lucky Americans and they're Toonami.

Yeah, I remember it being Ocean.

I actually watched it a few times as I haven't seen much of the Ocean dub.

Ah, DBZ on TV3. I'm fairly certain that it aired past the late 90s, because I specifically remember seeing it. It use to run in the afternoons, right after school; might've even been a part of Sticky TV (anyone remember that? Is it still on?). I also recall seeing Buu-era episodes on in the morning.

I think someone actually uploaded one of TV3's promos on YouTube, but that was a while ago.

Look at that. I've gotten all nostalgic, now.

I remember watching Ocean dub for the first 53 or so eps on Cheese TV but I never knew Toasted TV showed it.

However I was unaware Kai even aired on Foxtel over here............

All TV programs will go off the air sometime.

There is only one exception to this: "A Christmas Story" will be played in a marathon every Christmas for the rest of time, or at least until TV becomes obsolete.
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

Oh does it ever... lol They did stop it at one point on TV2 but it just started playing again.

The last time I remember DBZ being on Cartoon Network was February 2011, as I watched an episode the day before the Christchurch 6.3 Earthquake (lost our power for 3 weeks). Think it was sometime during the Saiyan Conflict. I would love for it to play again as I'm still wanting the NEPs for episodes 54-276 (minus the ones included in the volumes) and the edited version of Ginyu Assault.

Surprised Toasted TV didn't air at the very least the edited version of Kai.
