Anyway, during the anime, before Nappa and Vegeta reach Earth, we see them wandering in space and even blowing up a filler planet. Nappa's armour was black and brown, like Raditz's, and I think his Scouter was a different colour too. Vegeta on the other hand has a garish colour scheme and brown hair. That's the first question; why the hell are Nappa and Vegeta like this? Second question is the colour of Vegeta's hair, it has a slight brown tone in Movie 8 but for the most of the time it's black. In artwork now, and even on a poster featuring all of the DB and DBZ characters (including the Tsufurujin monster from the "OVA"), his hair is brown. Explanations? Final question is to why Android 17 lives on Earth, I don't remember him being wished back or anything as a hippie.

Episode 6: It's either wack artwork or some artistic view considering the fire and how the planet is the same color as their armor during that scene.

Android 17: Everyone killed by Cell was ressurected, also he appears for a short time in the Kid Buu saga giving his energy to the Spirit Bomb. Since Earth was wished back to the way it originally was and 17 was there, giving his energy, 17 had probably been on Earth since the end of the Cell Games.

Nappa and Vegeta Colors: They were shown before Toriyama-sama had yet given them a color scheme. As such they had to make something up. So, they gave Nappa what they'd seen before and give the great Prince something new. As for his hair, they just picked a color. No one at Toei ever got the memo about all Saiya-jins having black hair (there's blue haired ones in the Bardock special). The reason it's kept the brown tint over they years is just that reason though. He had all brown hair uriginally in the anime and that's translated into brown highlights and sometimes (B2 opening) brown hair.

And apparently 17 was revived when "Everyone killed by Cell" was brought back. *shrug* And since he's not a people person he's got himself a nice little cabin out in the middle of no where.

Dammit! You beat me to it, Xyex! I always thought that Vegeta looked better with Brown hair in the Budokai opening sequence. I dunno why...

Toriyama-sensei has a habit of making once important characters vanish from DBZ. Let's see...#17, Lunch, Yajirobe, Chaozu, Tenshinhan

And in GT, we see less of Piccolo, Krillin, #18, Goten, and about every character so that Toei could make room for Goku, Trunks, and Pan. Trunks has already done too much as a character, I mean coming back from the future to save Goku, yada yada yada...(I know this is a different Trunks, I'm just saying that Trunks in general was overused.) I'd have rather seen Goten go with Goku and Pan... :?

Ya but Trunks was one of the most popular of the DBZ characters in Japan if I recall correctly, so Toei figured that would garauntee better success with the series.

B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."

Personally I think it should have been Goku, Uub and Pan, where Uub and Pan are there for training reasons and not sneak-on-boards. Instead of Trunks (who's only there as a braniac Briefs family member) and Giru/Gill/Gear (who's only there for a comedic partner for Pan), add Bra or nobody: if you need those two dynamics, Bra could be the perfect chance to keep the Bulma+Vegeta flair in the series.

Wasn't Toei shooting for something like the original DB? If they wanted that, then Bra would've been perfect, I mean she's a fucking Bulma clone!
I would've had the GT team like this: Goku, Pan, Trunks, Goten, Bra, Uub and maybe Marron because she should've been a fighter. I think Marron would've made a very good Z senshi because of her heritage, I mean a cyborg and a monk trained by Roshi, that's gotta produce a powerful child. :P

I disagree: overall, DB's been a three to four-man team where Goku saves the day, or just Goku. Everyone else is either competition or cameos.
-Pilaf saga: Goku, Bulma and Oolong vs Yamcha and Puar. When it becomes vs Pilaf, the team becomes Goku, Bulma and Yamcha with Oolong and Puar as tag alongs. When Goku becomes the enemy (Oozaru), the team is Yamcha, Oolong and Puar saving Bulma.
-21st budokai: Goku, Krillin, Kamesennin with Lunch as a tag-along.
-Red Ribbon: All Goku.
-22nd budoukai: Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, Kamesennin
-Piccolo Daimao: Team 1-Goku, Yajirobi and Karin. Team 2-Tenshinhan, Chaozu and Kamesennin.
-23rd budoukai: Goku, Shen, Tenshinhan, Krillin with Yamcha as a tag-along.
-Radditz: Goku, Piccolo and Gohan
-Saibamen: Krillin, Tenshinhan, Piccolo and Yamcha
-Nappa (1st time): Piccolo, Chaozu, Tenshinhan and Krillin
(2nd time): Piccolo, Krillin and Gohan
(3rd time): All Goku
-Vegeta: Goku, Krillin, Gohan and Yajirobi
-Namek: Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin and Bulma
-Ginyu: Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin
-Freeza (first form): Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin
-Freeza (second form): Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin and Piccolo
-Freeza (third form): Piccolo, Gohan and Dende
-Freeza (fourth form): All Goku, one scene that has Piccolo, Gohan and Krillin
-King Cold: exception to rule! All Trunks
-Mirai Androids: Gohan, Trunks and Bulma
-Androids: From here to Semi-Perfect Cell it's all about the Saiyans and Piccolo. From then on it's all about the Saiyans.

1) I think the whole Vegeta/Nappa thing was the animators getting confused or something. :?

2) Hippie? #17?!

It's rather funny how they changed it to black for most of the series and onward except for the parts where light's heavily shining on his hair, then you see a hint of brown. Then they go and start giving him brown hair in artwork of today, even though he has black hair even in the games. :P

They even gave King Vegeta brown hair when we see Vegeta with black hair.

Toriayama wasn't sure on the colours the characters were going to have. I thought it was the planets atmosphere or maybe the fire changing the hair colour, but Nappa also had black panels on he's armor which remeined black, also his moustache and eyebrows were black.

I guess since Vegeta was evil, and his plot outcome wasn't yet decided by Toriyama, he though red hair would suit him well as it's like the devils colour or represents some evil in him. Despite the fact he wanted all Saiyan hair to be black, they must have stuck with black after because it makes more sense, and picture seeing Vegeta in the future episodes with red hair. It would be silly.

Vegeta's hair is always a slightly different shade of darkness from Goku's or Gohan's, that's why at first his SSJ hair is kind of a different yellow, a bit brighter.

And the answer to your second question is answered by you yourself, his hair is slightly brown. When you see Vegeta in high quality imagery it's more visible on the light parts, but to retain this style of colour on the anime would mean they would have to put a different level of shading for the hair, and a lot more work would be needed, so they keep it black and also because it would look wierd with Vegeta's hair being distinctively brown.

As for the different coloured armor, well, same reasons, they didn't decide on a colour.
