Fan-Edit Opening to Kai Buu Arc

Yesterday, I suddenly came up with an idea of making an opening video to the Buu arc of Kai, so I actually made it. Since there aren't enough digitally animated sequences with Buu arc characters, it doesn't really seem to be something made specifically for the Buu arc and it's filled with spoilers, but I made this just for fun anyway. Don't take it seriously.

Nice going Kei I like how you managed to blend the battle of gods trailer with the start of Kai, I almost didn't notice to begin with. Kind of a shame about the song though.

Seems to work well. I like the added touch of the lyrics being at the bottom and matching the font they used for Dragon Soul. Also having the ending theme be We Were Angels but with Flow credited as the artist.

I would love for them to actually use Hero as an opening though.

I am thoroughly impressed. You even added a digital clock and the FujiTV logo! The credits were so professionally placed, too. The editing was really slick, too. In fact, this is downright professionally edited. Bravo, good sir. If only you had been hired to edit Dragon Ball Kai.

Yeah, my only complaint is that it's not as Buu-centric as the other openings were to their villains, but that's not really something you can help given the animation you have to work with. I've been trying to think of more Buu scenes you could use, but he only ones I come up with are some of the shots from the Budokai 2 and 3 openings, as well as the Heroes trailer with SS3 Trunks. But none of them really fit the rocky landscape feel and color pallet on in this version...so I don't think there is much you can do...

Since it does include Hildegarn and Birus though, I would have slipped a shot of Super Saiyan God Goku in there too. Maybe the first one of him in the Battle of Z opening...

Yeah, that's right, and also I wanted to avoid non-HD animation as far as possible.

Appearances of those villains can be justified as some kind of imaginary characters only for the opening animation like the nameless giant monster in the first opening to Hokuto no Ken, but with Super Saiyan God, the whole thing would look even more fan-edit-esque and be nothing but an AMV with credits.

Gotta disagree, because there is a big difference here. Someone new to the franchise can find out everything there is to know about these characters in just a few minutes on the internet, without even knowing their name beforehand. It's fairly impossible to liken the main villains of the show or movies to any nameless creature in an opening, even theoretically.

I don't know, I can't really see how it would be worse than other opening animations in this modern age. The Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood openings, which, having just sat through it for a third time this past week, regularly spoil much of the plot in advance. Sometimes, even bigger plot points that would best be kept secret. Heck, even the second set of Kai openings tell you that Trunks, Vegeta and Gohan become Super Saiyans. That last one almost seeming like a fan made it and decided to ruin a potentially huge surprise for newcomers to the franchise, just because it would be cool to have it in there.

Anyway, I'm not trying to convince you to do it. Just saying I wouldn't see anything wrong with doing it, as I wasn't talking about including a significant scene. Just a brief cut; potentially between either Vegeta vs. Buu and Goku tunneling through the ground, or everyone praying for Goku and him getting punched by Hildegarn. Kinda like the latter versions of Dragon Soul basically splice in a still of one of the Artificial Humans or Cell.

I dunno. As a music video it's cool but it's nothing I'd ever picture being an opening for the Boo Saga.

Regardless of whether current children can know who the villains actually are, Hirudgarn and Beerus never appear in Kai, so I thought that an "in this show, heroes are going to fight against powerful villains like these" kind of usage would work here like the Rock the Dragon opening. This happened a lot in old anime shows, so I just emulated it and didn't care whether it actually works in the real world today. However, when it comes to the protagonist, showing a form that never appears in the show would be a little too random and misleading for an opening animation even if you take older shows into consideration.

I would make something completely different only with characters from the Buu arc if I made it from scratch, but it's just a cut-and-paste work after all.

Doesn't GT do the same in its first opening, with Goku, Trunks, and Pan fighting some random giant monster or something?
