I think Vortexx buys it like a syndcation package so that they "own" the version of the episodes they air. They must have paid quite a sum.

I'm not sure they actually make any money. I heard that Viz pays Cartoon Network for air time, and ultimately what they're paying for is the exposure of their shows to a wider audience than preaching-to-the-choir anime-centered streaming sites. Logic would dictate FUNimation does the same thing with One Piece and FMA and others, and perhaps on other networks as well.

Of course, there may not be any truth to what I just said so why did I even post at all?!

I think Funi gets most of their money from DVD sales then ratings. They got a lot of money in the late 90's and early 2000's because DBZ was much bigger back then. Kids bought the show on VHS, DVD, t-shirts and the toys. Kai only has DVD's and Blu-Rays, Funi only seem to market their shows for teenagers and young adults.
