Would You Audition for Buu Saga Kai?
With the Kai Buu saga coming up, and with knowing some guys' thoughts on the dub, thought I'd ask, if money weren't an issue, would you go down to Texas and audition to be in the show and see if you could do better? Myself, while not a hater, would love to be in a show I enjoyed as a fan.
Re: Would You Audition for Buu Saga Kai?
FUNimation HQ is a three-hour drive for me. I'd walk up in there and blow Sabat's mind with my renditions of "blind boy who can now see" or "rich guy's servent" or "Goku."

If money were no issue, then yeah. Just for the fun of it, though, and not to prove I "could do better." It'd be fun to be a part of the series somehow.
As a minor/background character, of course. I'm pretty content with the FUNi cast as we have it. I wouldn't want to replace anybody (not that I could anyway).

Yeah, and I'd try my best to imitate the old Funi dub dialogue and voice acting just to piss everyone here off.
Jk. But I probably would try to land a role if I actually were a voice actor.

No, because no matter what I did, good or bad there would be threads with hate filled comments such as:
"He's [insert scathing criticism] because [insert comment on why your opinion is fact]" and "[so and so who you hate] even did a better job than [insert deriding adjective before my name]."
Plus, if this part of Kai is anything like the other parts then having to sit through multiple takes would be a kind of personal hell.

Re: Would You Audition for Buu Saga Kai?
To be a part of anything Dragon Ball-related in any official capacity would be amazing for me, even if it was just doing the promo commercial for it. I''ve been scrambling to get my promo demo done in the hopes that, by some stroke of beyond-divine luck, I'd be able to audition for just that. Nickelodeon Studios is in LA, after all, so who knows...
Were I still non-union, and if I were living in Dallas/within driving distance of Dallas/absurdly rich to the point where I could nonchalantly purchase a ticket to Dallas, I'd absolutely audition. My guess is, that on the rare chance that FUNimation held open auditions for that, they'd likely only be doing it for the bit parts. Replacing one of the main parts would be rather intimidating...not sure if I'd do that.
As for bringing in new actors, here's what I'd really want. Chris Sabat briefly mentioned at a con that he tried to get the guys at TFS down to Okatron to record some lines (most likely bit parts) for Kai, but that it didn't work out for whatever reason. I've thought that it would be hilarious if he managed to get them to record their respective DBZ Abridged roles for Mr. Satan's silly "re-enactment video" of "how he defeated Cell." That would be freaking hilarious.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I wouldn't hesitate in a second (and had the money) if there was open auditions. I do hope to get involved professionally voice acting at some point. So, would be awesome to officially be part of one of my favorite shows (even to this day).

Re: Would You Audition for Buu Saga Kai?
I've pretty much given up on my voice-over aspirations, due to a variety of reasons (not really being an actor in the first place, not finding as much fun in it as I used to, my location, etc.), but if I randomally did have the option...hell yeah I'd give it a go. As others have said, even just getting a bit part would be awesome as hell.
As far as major characters go, I'm largely happy with everyone, so I wouldn't want to take their jobs. I do think I do a pretty good Kuririn (and did get cast as him in a Kai fan dub that never happened), but I wouldn't dream of taking Sonny Strait's role.

Unfortunately, even though I do have the voice for garish cartoon voice acting, I haven't the actual acting skill to sell it.
Hey, I'm probably more talented than the Big Green cast. But then, so is a paper cup.

I live in Austin... but still no, I wouldn't audition because I've been content with just meeting everyone as industry guests at conventions I've worked.

Nah. I don't need to be constantly reminded by Internet people that my bit role didn't sound exactly like how it did in the old dub and that DBZ is now ruined forever.

Re: Would You Audition for Buu Saga Kai?
I would if I felt it was up to some of their voice talent's level. All I have done is a few meh fandubs of Simon from the second Gurren Lagann movie, Detective Richard Mor from Case Closed/Detective Conan, and at one point I think I did Inuyasha a few years back.
Not sure if I lost the files in a move but I may try diggin them up and linking them on here.

Why not, but I don't think I would make my living as a VA.
I can't fathom why you would ever say that. I get it, you don't like Kai, but you make it sound like season 3. I'm not even sure what it means that it would be a kind of personal hell.Plus, if this part of Kai is anything like the other parts then having to sit through multiple takes would be a kind of personal hell.

I second this. I only live 5 hours away from Dallas/Fort Worth, but such a chance seems extremely unlikely given how backlogged FUNi's auditions and demos are in terms of getting heard. Last I've checked, it would take at least 2 years before being able to even get an audition with them through normal means.SSJ4 Furanki wrote:I wouldn't hesitate in a second (and had the money) if there was open auditions. I wouldn't audition for a voice acting role, as I have neither the experience or skill in the field to make it a worthwhile venture - but I'd love to be involved in the technical aspects of a dub. Ideally within music composition or sound design, as that's my field of work - but I'd even take an ADR assistance, editing or other technical role, all of which I've also worked professionally in.
But like everything within this particular industry, there's a hundred guys more talented and experienced than myself in line for those kind of gigs - many of which will be willing to work for less than I (I need to pay bills) or even for nothing.
Plus, these kind of opportunities don't tend to even go out externally. Hirings in this industry are 99% through 'networking' links - and my phone book is a little scant in regard to American Anime dubbing professionals!

Well, everyone has to start somewhere, and if this had been 98-99, lack of experience and skill didn't stop FUNi from hiring the people they did.Blade wrote:I wouldn't audition for a voice acting role, as I have neither the experience or skill in the field to make it a worthwhile venture - but I'd love to be involved in the technical aspects of a dub. I think roles were chosen a long time ago, and this wouldn't be a show they'd audition for.
Since I actually have a natural high voice I wouldn't mind voicing boo if given the chance or even Goten :p
