4 Questions I Would Ask Akira Toriyama

Post by xmysticgohanx » Tue Feb 25, 2014 11:43 am

1. Did Gohan ever turn SSj2 between his encounter with Kibito and turning Ultimate and if so when? (I'm on the SSj side but the SSj2 side has some good evidence)

2. In the interview where you said SSj God Goku was a 6, Beerus was a 10, and Whis was a 15 where would SSj Vegetto be in that list keeping in mind SSj2 Vegetto would be 2x that number and SSj3 would be 4x SSj2?

3. Besides the manga, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, BoG, and the JSAT (special) is there anything else you consider canonical [e.g. the other movies (including DB stuff but I haven't watched it yet), specials, etc.]?

4. Since Gohan turned SSj during the SSj God ritual is Ultimate his base but he can turn SSj to power down? Does SSj power him up, or is his base his pre-ritual base and Ultimate is just an alternate transformation?
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)

1. Is the new God Ki above normal battle power, above any forces like SSJ3 Vegetto?

2. Who is Whis? Is he a Kaioshin?

3. Kaioshins do possess Godly Destructive powers? Or their battle poweer is nothing special, just like the power of lower beings?

4. Bardock did survive the battle against Frieza and went back in time, or died right then? In other words, Episode of Bardock manga is canonical?

I'd only have one question for Mr. Toriyama and that is..

Who would be an ideal replacement for Masako Nozawa's place?

I would ask for opinion about Kikuchi score. What he thinks about it and how it fits the world he created.

1. "You've mentioned in the past that Dragon Ball's motif isn't very fun for you to draw. Is it because you worked on it for so long that it just grew tiresome, or is there something specific about it you don't like?"
2. "When did you really want to end Dragon Ball? What was stopping you if that is what you wanted? There are too many rumors!"
3. "Were then any other major editorial decisions that altered your work besides complaints from your old editors about the multiple Androids and Cell's first two forms?"
4. "What would be the ideal story for you to create? Do you feel you have already done that with Dr. Slump, DB, or one of your other short pieces?"

I don't think this even begins to scratch the surface. We need timeless anecdotes and stories and thoughts and ideas. Not interested in "clarifying" anything specific within the story. I'm gonna cheat and add a fifth question I just thought of.

5. "You've mentioned, as a story device, that you enjoy bringing two characters in at the same time because the way they interact, or even look standing next to each other, informs their relationship without much, or any dialog. There's Goku and Bulma, Vegeta and Nappa, Kaioshin and Kibito, Babidi and Dabra, Beers and Whis... What other ways have you used your art to tell the story without exposition or text?"

I'd excise question 3 if I was only allowed four questions.

3.How did Saiyans met Freeza?
4.Why did you make Buu arc?

1.) Is there any character that you wish you had been able to give more spotlight in the original manga?
2.) While you certainly wrote strong female characters, you also did have a tendency to toss them aside as soon as they became mothers. Do you feel you would have handled that issue the same way if you were writing the series for the first time nowadays?
3.) If you were to have to allow an all-new, long-running, more 'serious' Dragon Ball manga to be drawn, who would you want to do it?
4.) SIGN MAH CHEST. SIIIIIGGGGNNNNN. *takes off shirt*

...Oh, wait. That'd get me hauled away by security. *clears throat* All joking aside...

4. B) What ONE thing, be it a character, an attitude, a feeling, whatever, do you want fans of Dragon Ball to remember forever?

I would just hold up pictures of his characters and ask if he remembers them.

"Mr. Toriyama, do you remember..." Then I hold up a picture of Gyuumao. "This guy? Can you name him?" And so on.

The victim of violent head trauma as an infant [...] he's a simple bumpkin with a fair share of brain damage who's natural talents to work out what's wrong compensate for his broad lack of common sense. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

He probably wouldn't remember an answer for most of these... I remember the DBM guy interviewed him once and he didn't even remember who Vegeto was.

I can't tell if you're joking or not, no offense, but uh...pretty sure that was just...for lack of a better word, 'hyperbole'. A gag. They didn't actually get to talk to Toriyama.

1. If you had the chance to go back and change things in your manga, having seen the finished product, various adaptions and so on, what would you do?

2. Do God, Kaio, Kaioshin etc have the godly ki that Beerus and Whis do? Are they a different kind of god? If so, how?

3. What things were you persuaded to change by your editors or the public? Did you change any major plot points or continue when you would have preferred to end the story?

4. You've said that you backed out of writing certain "romantic" elements of the story due to shyness. What did you think up but not actually write?

1) "What is canon?"
2) "What is not?"
3) "What time is it?"
4) "Do you speak some language other than Japanese? I didn't understand what you said."
Sorry, I can't speak English very well, but I'm trying my best.

He's actually answered both of these questions, at least to an extent over the past year.
Battle of Gods Anime Comics wrote:If there’s another movie, would you want to be involved?

I don’t think I’d want to be actively involved, but if I get a request and I have the time, I suppose I might.
Episode of Bardock 'Super Kanzenban' Q&A wrote:About how many of Freeza’s race are there? Are they quite thriving, with a big population?

Freeza is what you might call a mutated life-form. Strictly speaking, Freeza’s father is a mutant with an abnormally high battle power. And, born from his father alone, [or, "born from his father, alone] still in strong possession of the mutant traits, was Freeza.

Accordingly, even saying “Freeza’s race”, these two are the only ones who possess an abnormal [level of] battle power and cruelty.

I would only have one question for him and that would be about his own thoughts on the future of the Dragon Ball series, especially in consideration of his own death in the far future. Where does he see the series going and where would he want the series to go long after he's gone? Whether he's in favor of others taking over the mantle in regards to a continuation of story, etc.
Kyle Broflovski wrote:It's all real. Think about it. Haven't Luke Skywalker and Santa Claus affected your lives more than most real people in this room? I mean, whether Jesus is real or not, he - he's had a bigger impact on the world than any of us have. And the same can be said for Bugs Bunny and - and Superman and Harry Potter. They've changed my life - changed the way I act on the earth. Doesn't that make them kind of real? They might be imaginary but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around here long after we're dead. So, in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.

1.- We want to know of the first Ssj God, the arrival of Saiyans of Planet Plant and the War with the Tsufuru-jin. Would you be willing to do a "History of Saiyans" special OVA or give Naho Ooishi that task?
2.- The other universes Birusu mentions on the movie... are they slightly different versions of Goku's universe or totally different universes? (*show DB Multiverse as reference*)
3.- What happened to Bulma's sister? We want to know more about her life.
4.- Did the Galactic Patrol visit Mirai Trunks after all his Time Travel trips? That would certainly draw their attention! They might even recruit him, right?

BONUS QUESTIONs:

We saw Uub living with Goku's family on Nekomajin Z. Would Pan and Uub end up together when they grow up? They would have very strong children!

We'd like to see female SSj! Will we ever see Bra or Pan transforming?

Will Tarble ever get children with Gure? Those would be very weird Saiyans!

*Show him my Fanfic Journey's End* Would you like that to happen?

1. "Can we please have race names for all the important characters that don't already have them?" (Would be willing to sit there and hold up pictures of the important aliens in the franchise, as well as have all known name puns for characters belonging to said race to help him stay with the theme, if that's what he wants to do with them.)

2. "Dragon Ball Online, the Korean MMORPG you helped to develop, has unfortunately been shut down. The game has done a lot to expand the Dragon World, so I'm curious about your involvement with the plot. There are elements of both the history leading up to the events of the game and the narrative that unfolds while playing that feels like they came from you. Can you explain any of the plot points you may have created and, since you were required to sign off on all things in the game, perhaps give us more detail about the direction they were planning to take it before it got canceled; what was the endgame?"

3. "We know a decent amount about the Kami, Kaio and Kaioshin, but you've expanded the god hierarchy over the years, most recently with Battle of Gods. Can you elaborate more on these additions? For example: perhaps more history on the Hakaishin? What does the Kaiojikan look like and does he have a more specific role than just watching over time? You've also said evil Shinjin go to Makai, but were unclear about if they became Makaio and Makaioshin, or just joined them. If they aren't Makaio(shin), then who takes up those roles? Are there other gods we don't know about?"

4. "You helped to expand the universe of the Dragon World once again with Battle of Gods and Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, both within the realm of the story we were already familiar with by elaborating on the Galactic Patrol and entirely new territory by introducing 11 alternate universes. Are there any other random tidbits about the World of Dragon Ball that you have in mind and would be willing to share with interested fans? Such as the contents of those 11 other universes, or anything else really?"

1. Is Krillin really stronger than Tien and if so how did he stay ahead of him even though Tien trains more?
2. Did Gohan go SS2 post Tournament?
3. Are King Piccolo and Piccolo Jr one in the same or different entities?
4. Did you ever really intend for Gohan to kill Buu?

Those are very good questions TheDevilsCorpse. But I would imagine he wouldn't remember half of that.

I would like a lot that the departure of Goku and Vegeta on the timeline of DBO to have their final fight would be accepted by him as the "right way" to send them off. That bit was just perfect and so In Character for both of them.

Uhm, now that I think more about it, I have a couple of questions more:

The SSj3 spent most of Goku's time on Earth when he was dead. The technique was developed on the Otherworld where he didn't have to worry of the effects on his body. He couldn't keep it up while fighting with Kid Buu because the strain was just too great. Would that lessen his own lifespan if he keeps using it while alive?

We understand you feel very strongly about dead lines and the pressure of making another manga. Would you write new ideas and give them to Ms. Ooishi to develop? In other words... Is Naho Ooishi going to carry the torch if there's any other "official" Dragon Ball related stories?

I have always wondered why Vegeta and his brother are so short compared to the rest of the Saiyans we know. I theorized her mother was also small and in fact had some Tsufuru blood in her (she would have born before the war, after all). Would that be correct? Will we ever find out about her like we did with Gine?

Speaking of Gine... is she a descendant of those Good Saiyans that helped create the first Ssj God?
