Did I just accidentally get Chris Sabat's autograph?

Post by Kendamu » Wed Mar 05, 2014 10:01 pm

Hey, guys. I hunted down some used copies of Kai Parts 2-4 with Yamamoto music on Amazon the other day and I happened to get Part 2 today in the mail. When I opened it up, I saw this.
Also, you can't see it, but it's still in its plastic wrap under the slipcover!

Did I just get a Chris Sabat-autographed copy of this for under $25?

For what it's worth, this autograph pretty much matches the ones I have on mine when I had Sabat personally sign my Z Kai season copies. So if you can't get confirmation from Sabat, I hope I was of some help. :)

Thats awesome! I bought a book called moonwalker when I was trying to get a copy of Michael Jacksons book on half.com

Turned out they sent the wrong book. It was about Charlie Duke and his mission to the moon and it was signed!

I'd be annoyed if my Dragon Ball Z Kai Parts 1-4 Blu-rays covers/slipcovers were ruined by an autograph of FUNimation's cast.

But if you're okay with that, then good for you.

Dude, it's Chris Sabat. If there's one person who actually knows his shit regarding this franchise and cares too, it's him.

I hold zero regard for FUNi's dub but c'mon now, don't be absurd.

It could be autographed by God and I still wouldn't care. I just wouldn't want what I buy to have signatures from people who weren't even part of the original cast, and even then I'd have to think about despite how much I love Masako's performance.

So you wouldn't want a copy signed by Toriyama? He's not part of the original 'cast'.

Anyway, that's just your prerogative. If someone did want a copy signed by anyone they wanted to have it signed by, then that's up to them, no need for you to decry it like it's worthless. And heck, even if you didn't want a signed copy personally, ending up with one out of the blue like this is still pretty cool, and probably worth more than the $25 if Kendamu were to want to re-sell it. So...yeah, I'm not seeing the problem here that would require you to be so snotty.

Lawyered

I would get my copy signed by God, and then say, "It turns out I was wrong, you do exist."
Then (s)he would reply, "No big deal, Bruce Lee was an atheist and he's in Heaven, in fact wanna meet him?" Because God is cool like that.

Yeah, and it only took more than a decade after starting to work with the series.

For the Full Colour Manga Vol. 01 or The Complete Illustrations, yes, but not for this.

Getting the signature of God would mean nothing as that wouldn't prove whether it's real or not.

And yet some of the fanbase praises him.

Sabat has been stealing Drummond's "Over 9000" for years as if he came up with that meme, but it's lame anyway so it suits him.

He didn't steal Drummond's line, it wasn't his line to begin with. It was whoever wrote the line's dialog, and secondly, he did it because the fans wanted it. That you blame him for it is juvenile. The line was popular long before the meme.

Nope, he got pretty damn good by the end of DBZ.
Getting the signature of God would mean nothing as that wouldn't prove whether it's real or not.
Yeah it would. If it's his signature, he exists. How would I get God's signature if he didn't exist? It wouldn't be God's signature! Besides, didn't you read the rest? I have a conversation with him. Not a conversation I thought I'd be having as an atheist.
For the Full Colour Manga Vol. 01 or The Complete Illustrations, yes, but not for this.
Why do you give a crap where he signs as long as it's permanent? It's Toriyama!

Such a miserable bunch.

I just don't understand your line of thinking. It's taking dub hate to such an absurd level that I'm totally dumbfounded.

It's a signature for someone who, despite what you might think of the past, is currently very well versed in the series. He fought for the use of 'Beerus' and actually responded to fans positively regarding broadcast audio and its preservation. The fact he was so keen to make sure it was done right is fantastic.

That's not something to just scoff at because of your feelings towards FUNimation's shitty business practises of the past. What an absolutely asinine and narrow minded way of thinking. I'm sure you've all seen interviews with the guy lately, he's well aware of the negative past. He doesn't pull a Schemmel and walk around with his head in his ass.

Yes, fuck the man who wasn't willing to turn to fans and go 'no, sorry, won't be honoring your request because that wasn't my line'. C'mon now. Brian Drummond hasn't been Vegeta in over a decade. Fans wanted to hear an iconic line done by 'their Vegeta', it's not blasphemy to want to honor a request.

I cannot believe I've had to come off like some moronic Sabat fanboy to get such an obvious point across. How ridiculous.

I'm astounded that anything is being debated in this thread.

Kendamu got an exciting surprise in the mail and wanted to share it. That some people would try to ruin that by saying "Psh, the dub cast. But I guess you can still feel happy... if you want" is just downright snobby. Shame on anyone who acts like that.

I, for one, think it's a pretty cool surprise. Congrats on getting something like that for so cheap, man!

That's pretty cool Kendamu! Especially if it checks out! I have to agree with AjayLikesGaming and MagicBox on that arguement. Even if I didn't like the dub cast (actually like both casts equally as of the Kai dub), it would still be a neat thing to have. Kendamu, if you ever go to a convention with Horikawa at it, you should get his autograph too! Since the Sabat signature seems legitimate.

Yeah I'm pretty surprised how south this thread went. The guy possibly has a autographed product by one of the cast. No reason to get a stick up your butt about it. If he likes it then he has every right too.

All right, I was probably more negative than was called for, even for me.

Regardless of my feelings of his past work, Sabat's autograph on a Kai Blu-Ray or DVD would be worthwhile, because he's quite good in it, as a voice actor, and worked to ensure the accuracy of this particular English dub.
