Is Super Saiyan God the next "canonical" SSj4?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Is Super Saiyan God the next "canonical" SSj4?

Post by Rockman X » Thu Mar 27, 2014 6:40 am

I was wondering does SSJgod Replace SSJ4 or is it a movie only form? i'm confused is this a natural Super saiyan transformation or is this some sort of a special movie only transformation?

I am pretty sure it is not supposed to be a new Super Saiyajin 4 or it would have just been called Super Saiyajin 4 since those levels are how the normal forms are called and I am sure the normal SSJ4 shall not be ignored.

There is no official canonicity and Akira Toriyama does not care about the existence of canonicity. "Canonical" and "Not-canonical" are states that are normally declared which does not happen here (only really a few usable statements for the movies can be taken, for example). Studio Toei also does not say anything about it but at least it says Battle of Gods "happens between Z and GT".

Well it would be called ssj4 if it wasn't for dbgt. But yes,,it's form beyond ssj3 so you could say that it's somthing like ssj4..

I wouldn't be suprised if in future we get more ssj forms,,or simply next levels.

Although I prefer SSJ4 it would make more sense for SSJG to be the legitimate SSJ4 form.

Super Saiyan 4 and Super Saiyan God appear to exist entirely independent of one and other.

As such, as opposed to superseding GT's take on a Super Saiyan 4, Super Saiyan God exists outside of both the regular Super Saiyan chain, and more importantly, the continuity in which Super Saiyan 4 exists within.

I think Super Saiyan 4 is always going to be something that is marketed, sold and promoted as part of Dragonball, so I don't think that anyone is going to do anything to either redact its importance or undermine its significance.

The same goes for GT in general. We're never, ever going to see a Dragonball film or further expansion upon the story that explicitly states that 'GT doesn't count'. It's an entire Anime series that is still a salable product for Toei, so why the hell would they want to harm that arrangement? As we continue to see with Dragonball Heroes and how it is incorporating more and more elements from GT, the series still has an appeal.

People around here hate it when you mention canon.

But either way I consider SSJG official and SSJ4 glorified fanfiction.

It's not canon to the manga, but it can be view canon to the anime. BOG is listed down in the anime timeline, so BOG did happen in GT. The movie did cause some major plot holes in order for BOG to happen in GT since Gohan can go Mystic in the film when he can't in GT. I know someone will say "Maybe he lost it", there's no proof that he lost his power to go Mystic. If he can still go Mystic then he would have transform against Rildo in the Super 17 saga.

So does that mean that SSJ God is weaker than SSJ4? i wonder how stronger SSJGod is in comparison to SSj4.

Well, if Vegetto was 'perhaps as strong as a Super Saiyan 4', and Beerus is the billed as the strongest opponent in Dragonball, ergo stronger than Vegetto, it stands to reason that a Super Saiyan God, who can at least trade blows with Beerus, stands a good chance of being stronger than a Super Saiyan 4.

This is backed up further by the comment made in the extended version of Battle of Gods, where it's speculated that even fused, Goku and Vegeta would be no match for Beerus.

I like better the SSJ4 form, but the GT in the same continuity with B.o.G. simply doesn't fit. SSJ4 is based on normal battle Ki which can be sensed even by anyone including humans, and saiyans without Godly power-up. Toriyama mentioned in an interview that Goku doesn't need to transform into SSJ God as he has kept its power. That most likely means that Goku Ki is no more sensible by lower beings even if Goku is in his base form. Piccolo did not sense Goku's power untill he did saw that he is just a super saiyan.

So SSJ4 can not be in any ways an ascension of SSJ God, because its power is very high though but not Godly one. There's only a single way for GT bo stay in continuity with B.o.G., as Goku did lost somehow his Godly nature, but it's certain that Toriyama doesn't want this at all.

As for SSJ4 vs SSJ God:

I simply think that SSJ4 Goku(with that lot of training from Majin Buu saga to Baby saga) is weaker than SSJ God self, just because Super Vegetto isn't a match for Beerus, but BOG Goku was.

I'm still waiting for Dragon Ball in Super...

Why "can't ge go Ultimate"? That was never said in GT. In Z on the other hand it was said that he can go SSJ as Goku asks if they should fuse as Super Saiyajins.

In Gt everyone is stronger. So Gohan again can break his limit of "even beyond his potential" to get stronger as this also had to have some end (so a limit). Like the 24432423534 times before. They always break their limits.

I think Super Saiyajin God would at least explain Goku's GT power for confused fans. For me personally his continuous training was explanation enough but now that is a good addition.

Weird, I saw the movie, and I only saw SS Gohan once.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

SSjG is stated to be Goku's strongest form which means that SSjG is likely stronger then SSj4. SSj4 does not exist in the manga, SSjG is likely AT's own take on the next SSj level after SSj3. In my opinion: SSjG Goku>SSj3 Vegito>SSj4 Goku.

SSJ God is the canon follow up to the SSJ3.

I think people wanted Toriyama to make the form look more like GT's SSJ4 but he said no which to me implies that in his mind the SSJ4 really doesn't count.

Of course they didn't call it SSJ4 for BoG because they don't wanna confuse people for no reason.
