Has Glenat ever given word concerning why they never translated the other Daizenshuu or Toriyama Akira The World?

I know in Spain, Complete Illustrations was the only Daizenshuu also... Art books are always more profitable, maybe they felt they wouldn't sell? Although that's be stupid since we all know that Dragonball is ridiculously huge in France!

You'd think, since they're milking the DB manga more than FUNi is milking the anime, that they would at least release the other daizenshuu pertaining to the manga as well as Toriyama Akira The World.

Even though Spain's Dragonball manga is handled by Planeta DeAgostini instead of Glenat, Spain has a Kanzenban release in March. You'd think the French would follow that. Maybe once the Kanzenban ball starts rolling through Europe more books will be printed, such as the rest of the Daizenshuu, Landmark, Forever, and both Son Goku and Tenkaichi Densetsu.

France has a rerelease already, in double volumes, so I doubt Glénat will follow this release up with a Kanzenban release, at least not immediatly :P

Weird that World Special isn't translated in France, it is in Germany. And because the German Daizenshuu 1 release is based on the French version, I thought World Special was released in France too ^_~

I all but wet myself when I saw it up for sale on Amazon.ca. Then I noticed it was in German.

I'm pretty sure the japanese style double volumes are the Kanzenban (with non-kanzenban covers). I'd buy the last one for the alternate ending if they are. Another possibility is that they're simply waiting a bit, like Ash suggested. Glénat doesn't want to seem TOO greedy, afterall. :P

I also keep hoping they'll release the two Akira Toriyama Exhibition (1993 and 1995). That's pure Glénat-translated Toriyama-manga art and one-shots. They'd be stupid NOT to translate those.

You mean the Toriyama one shot compilations? There were released in France already, but I think they're OOP.

I'm pretty sure the current rerelease of Glénat, in double volumes sens de lecture japonais, are not based on the Kanzenban release, seeing as the page count is the same as a normal tankoubon. ;) [ Format : 180 mm x 115 mn; 384 pages => 1 volume is 192 pages; Kanzenban release has more pages per volume]

No, I mean the REAL Toriyama artbooks. Apart the first one, the daizenshuu aren't really artbooks. Akira Toriyama Exhibition was released twice, both under the same name for some reason: once in 1993 and once in 1995. They were two seperate art books featuring work from Toriyama that also included a few one-shots starring Toriybot. The 1993 version has Goku in a military uniform riding a motorcycle and the 1995 edition has Kajika and some guy in a red jacket flying some weird sci-fi flying tank thingy.

Oh man, that's so lame! It's going to take a looong time before we get the Kanzenban.

I'm not sure, but I think it's a sequel to the 1993 edition. It was in the Merchandise Section -under books- of the French daizenshuu (#7). The only thing is that it's not called "Akira Toriyama Exhibition II" for some reason. I don't think it's a re-release of the 1993 edition.

They are of all i seen of the Daizenshuus.

Volumes 7 and 1, respectively, though there is absolutely no reason why a publsher like Glenat wouldn't publish any other artbooks or daizenshuu. Glenat's manga pretty much IS Toriyama's works. Even the FIRST versions of their Dragonball manga is still in print and selling exceptionally well. This is just in Canada, let alone their primary markets all over Europe.

Glenat is planning on releasing the "color" Dragon Ball edition before the end of 2006 (I saw this on a reliable French forum). We might not have to wait too long before we get the Kanzenban in French after all...

It looks like there was a misunderstanding on the French forum I was talking about earlier. Glenat isn't (yet) planning on releasing the Kanzenban in French but they'll release some Dragon Ball GT "Action Comics" or something like that.
