Why did Piccolo hate Kami so much?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Why did Piccolo hate Kami so much?

Post by Mr. Piccolo » Wed Apr 23, 2014 10:43 am

Why did Piccolo seem to hate Kami so much? I know they were opposite sides of the same original Namekian and that probably had a lot to do with it, but was there something else, something deeper? I ask this because Piccolo could have merged with Kami at various points in the series to become much more powerful but he didn't and even when he felt that he had to against the Androids he only did so reluctantly.

Any theories?
Kami is my co-pilot.

The two likely didn't want to lose their self-identity or individuality, nor would they want that influence from another individual perpetually interfering with them. Even with the stipulations that Piccolo made for how Kami would influence him, when they merged, we clearly see that he's far more gentle natured than before, undoubtedly due to Kami's influence, which I'm certain that Piccolo definitely didn't want.

First off, Piccolo was ever little part of evil that Kami ever had. Because of this, he despised his other half, BUT on the other hand, Kami didn't want to become bad person himself.
Secondly, their fusion = no dragonballs. When the host body is Piccolo, creator of the dragonballs ceases to exist, when the old kami is the host, he would most probably get sacked from his kami's job. Remember that he separated from his evil form in order to be allowed to become new kami. (My guess is, that it's King kai's job to inspect kamis from time to time using his telekinetic powers, which would finally partially answer question, what universe overseers do, besides just stiking around that is).

I think mostly these two reasons, might have thought of something more, but I feel this explanation is sufficient already.
Hope it helps, Cheers.

One thing that almost always saw between the two was the age gap- like Kami was the old man Piccolo had to prove wrong. Piccolo is part reincarnation part son, but not his father. He had not made the decision to split. He was never satisfied with simply lording his power over everyone weaker than him because that's not what he was born for- he was born to get stronger to avenge the idea of his dad with no thought to his own existence. Nor did he ever succeed, he was a fresh imitation even at his best, and his actually killing Goku was circumstantial and hardly final. Since Piccolo's existence was always based on effort, like Goku's, to go back to Kami always struck me as his admitting he could not function on his own.

Just like Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

Piccolo is literally all the parts of Kami that Kami didn't want. He's like trash that only exists to be thrown away. He's the definition of an unwanted child or outcast. The only reason he exists is because he wasn't wanted.

So it's only natural for Piccolo not to like Kami. Aside from being pure evil.

I also feel he doesn't respect Kami as his position involves him sitting on top of a huge tower, watching over everyone and doing little to directly protect them. Piccolo is very much a warrior so it's easy to see him not respect someone who doesn't use his strength head on.
