Any hope for Dragon Boxes in the UK?

Post by thomas1up » Fri May 02, 2014 4:53 pm

Hey I've been wondering for a while, is there any hope for the Dragon Boxes EVER, getting any sort of release in the UK?

I'm asking this because I really don't have the money to buy all the Dragon Box sets, import them, and then buy a region-free player, I own most of the series in orange brick (All the way up to cell arc) but it was pretty much impossible to watch for me.

So I've had to stick umm... different methods to watch Dragon Boxes  As much as I'd like to legally acquire the Dragon Boxes it really isn't an option which is why I'm really hoping for a UK release, or at least an EU release.

Well, you have the French and Spanish boxes of Dragon Ball / Z / GT if you want but Manga UK doesn't look like they're able to deliver such high quality release, they did shell out the OBs unfortunately for the DBZ batch.

The Orange Bricks are really not that great at all even though that the later seasons improve the quality a lot there's still missing lines, bad cropping and unbalanced colours/brightness.

Anyway, Dragon Ball: Season 1 as it's known in UK will be released on May 6, 2014 but the discs themselves are still called "Collection" heh Manga UK is pretty lazy to not even give it new DVD menus.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

Oh there's French and Spanish boxes? I always assumed is was a Japanese and US thing only.

Yeah I agree, the Orange Bricks are NOT good, I put up with them because it was my only source but after seeing Dragon Box quality I can't go back now, it's like night and day for me now.

I prefer the UK bricks to the US ones, but for Z the only difference is the packaging. I actually prefer the new blu ray seasons, so I'm hoping we get those if there's no chance of Dragon Boxes. Dragon Boxes would be amazing though.

We're likely never going to get the Dragon Boxes due to Toei not wanting to give out the footage. However, I feel like it would make business sense for Manga UK to do it, if it were ever possible. It wouldn't surprise me if people in the UK who bought Orange Bricks were willing to double dip. And, tons of people in America and Australia would likely import them too, due to the American release being out of print.
Hey! Check out my YouTube Channel! I talk about Dragon Ball quite a lot. www.youtube.com/nessmudkipz

I don't think there's any hope.

The Dragon Boxes were never put out by Madman either and the only reason you guys got the season sets for Dragon Ball, and we didn't, was because Manga UK did some "clever" improvising.

I'm still very bitter about this. They put out the 'Level' sets, they're putting out the current 'Season' Blu-Rays, but they didn't put out the Dragon Boxes. :| Or the redub of Curse of the Blood Rubies, for that matter. :x

I guess it would be better than the orange bricks but I'm so done with PAL dvd releases. The audio speed up annoys me and it's the reason I prefer Blu Ray or Region 1 releases.

The US Dragon Boxes Z are Regions 1 & 4 so they're at least compatible in your region. I had to use a Multi-Region DVD Player to watch them. :-/

The only time when I noticed an audio speed-up was while watching Arrested Development's Opening but elsewhere it just feels normal and regarding Blu-rays, it's the same now except the picture quality may be lower than the original release.

With Blu-rays there isn't PAL (720x576) or NTSC (720x480) any more, it's the exact resolution for all, either 1080p or 1080i.
