So MLP Just Went DBZ....

Now I know most people here probably don't care at all about My Little Pony, but I thought what happened during the season 4 finale would be of some interest to you guys.

Late in the finale, the main protagonist and the main antagonist duke it out when what basically amounts to a 2-minute DBZ fight. Seriously, there's beam clashes, teleportation, throwing a character through a mountain, and just overall the same kind of stuff you would expect from DBZ (A little after the fight, they even get a last-minute transformation with ridiculous hair, too). IMO, it's actually better than DBZ's fights.

Do you think this could possibly be a sort of homage to DBZ? MLP has paid homage to things like Star Wars before, so I think that there's a chance that all of this DBZ-like stuff might have been a reference of some sort.

Also, how do you think it stacks up compared to DBZ? Is it any better, worse, or on-par?

This is my first time to see this cartoon and yeah, the fight seems to be an homage to Dragon Ball. Especially this moment is very DB-esque.

IMO, it's actually better than DBZ's fights.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I think that this is not a right place to express your love for other shows that way.

That's pretty cool, although my favorite Western DBZ homage is probably always going to be that Cartman vs. Saddam Hussein fight from South Park: The Movie. For added awesomeness, it also has a neat little Star Trek reference at the end.

It's best to not engage with him about the negative stuff he writes. It's clear that he posts contentious stuff, and then endlessly repeats the things that people react to.

Having said that, he's entitled to his opinion and the right to have his own taste in Anime.

I don't see what's so ironic about that. The only irony I see is that a My Little Pony cartoon outdid DBZ in characters, writing, story, and ESPECIALLY action.

Yeah, I think that was what they were going for. From an avid fan's perspective, FIM has proven itself to be very dynamic. The season 4 finale that aired yesterday was especially good. However, that short clip is only indicative of the animation of the show. If you're interested in seeing what else it has to offer, you should start at episode one. That being said, if you're looking for a Dragon Ball-esque show... You won't find it in My Little Pony.

Heh, I saw that fight, and I immediately said to a friend, "This is Dragon Ball Z with ponies", I know thatdbzguy likes MLP, and somehow I didn't see this thread coming.

Honestly, I think it's pretty safe to say they were going straight for DBZ here; the part of Twilight crashing into a mountain and leaving a small crater behind is almost 'too-DBZ' for it to be anything else.

Yes, especially if you're not a pre-pubescent girl. First off, farts are always funny, and fights don't stop being cool even into adulthood. I know we're supposed to be accepting of all cultures, but I find Bronies to be weird.

You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Like I've said, the show is very-well written and beats DBZ in pretty much every category. You should watch the fight scene I'm talking about if you want to dispel any thoughts you have on MLP being only for little girls.

If you can put up with DBZ's amateurish writing, then I'm sure you'll be able to actually appreciate MLP's writing if you give it a chance.

No, I don't think I am. It's unexpected that a My Little Pony cartoon, which is typically thought of as being strictly for little girls, exceeds at action with just one scene when compared to a series that places action as its main focus throughout its entire story.

It exceeding at the other things I mentioned as well just adds more to the unexpected.

I'd definitely say this is a homage, and I've never seen a clip of MLP in my life. I have to ask, as I've never watched it, is this what the show is usually like? I mean with fights and the DBZ-esque battles?
