DBZ Movie?
Sorry if this has been posted already, but is this just speculation or legit?

Re: DBZ Movie?
Fake. IMDB is like Wikipedia in that it is largely user-contributed content - there have been no indications from anyone, anywhere, attached to Fox or the actors that this is real.SaiyanBaller22 wrote:Sorry if this has been posted already, but is this just speculation or legit?

In my opinion, it is unlikely we will ever see another Western Dragonball film, and if we will, it will probably be a fresh project as opposed to a sequel to the car crash that was Evolution.

Re: DBZ Movie?
Under "cast and crew" there is only listed one actor, Isky Fay.
Isky Fay is the guy who played Yamcha in that fanmade live action DBZ Saiyan Saga trailer, so it seems like some people want this to happen or are just joking around.

Re: DBZ Movie?
Well, it's "real" in that a movie really is planned. However, it's a fan-made movie (IMDB covers everything official or not), as mentioned by dbgtFO. The release date is obviously tentative/guesswork and I think it goes without saying that there is a strong possibility that this movie will never actually be made.

Re: DBZ Movie?
Dragon Ball Evolution is still pretty recent, so I doubt we will see another live action from Hollywood anytime soon. Fox may still have the rights to Dragon Ball, but I doubt they will waste their time with another movie. They will likely let their rights expire since they don't seem to care about the franchise in the first place. DBE only made $9,362,785 in the US on a budget around 35 - 50 million. DBE made back most of it's money overseas thanks to Chain which is still not enough to pay back the money Fox spend on making on the film. Hollywood only gets like 20% from China.

Domestic: $9,362,785 16.3%
+ Foreign: $48,134,914 83.7%
= Worldwide: $57,497,699
And that's not taken into account of all the home video sales from 2010 >
But yes, the only way they would have considered a sequel is if the domestic revenue was greater than the budget.

Re: DBZ Movie?
DBE pretty much flop on home video too. DBE was not a huge box office bomb, but they didn't make enough to make a sequel. Not to mention the movie was not very popular at all. They got the rights to the Dragon Ball franchise hoping to start a blockbuster movie franchise. X-Men is the reason why Fox got the rights to Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Dragon Ball and LXG in the early 2000's.

Re: DBZ Movie?
If Fox only got 20% from China's take, I'd say that's some pretty strong evidence that Fox lost their shirt on the movie. The promotional budgets are typically ignored in the estimated budget figures, and IIRC, DBD had a pretty decent-sized promotional push.Avenged wrote:FOX actually made profit from this movie.Hellspawn28 wrote:Dragon Ball Evolution is still pretty recent, so I doubt we will see another live action from Hollywood anytime soon. Re: DBZ Movie?
Before Evolution came out, I always imagine a live action movie based on the Saiyan Saga and is done in a big budget summer popcorn style of a movie. In 2003, I imagine a DBZ movie having a similar tone to a disaster movie like Armageddon and Independence Day. I think the next DB movie from Hollywood will be more darker and serious. Evolution was campy even by Dragon Ball standers. The whole movie feels like it was made in the late 90's and not 2009.
I think a DBZ movie similar to the tone from the new Godzilla movie can work. That movie had a nice balance of darkness and fun in my opinion. Something that like can work for the Saiyan - Cell saga. DBZ would need a huge budget, so I doubt Fox wants to waste money on a something that might flop. For now, I say let Fox's rights to the franchise expire and let another company pick up the rights to the series. So far I don't think not enough people in Hollywood care for the franchise since DBZ is not that old of a franchise here in the US. Maybe in 10 years from now, we could see something.

Re: DBZ Movie?
I don't trust these guys with a DBZ movie even if they are given a Hollywood size budget. If what he said is true about Toei not wanting another live action movie then it could be that they were not happy with Evolution. I think another live action Dragon Ball movie won't happen in this decade. Maybe in 9 or 10 years from now since a lot of time has pass and Evolution is only remember by fans of the franchise while everyone else forgot about the movie (Most people forgot that it exist even today since very little people saw it in theaters). If it took 16 years for another American Godzilla movie to happen then I can see a similar time gap with a Dragon Ball live action movie.

I want it to be a really intense, dour apocalyptic kung fu movie stressing the genocide of Planet Namek as Goku and Freeza fight in the growing hellscape of the dying world.Hellspawn28 wrote:I think the next DB movie from Hollywood will be more darker and serious.
And then the obligatory Marvel movie-era after credit tag is everything coming back to life via the Dragonballs and the director wagging his dick at the audience.

Me either. They can't even get their actors to read their lines convincingly.Hellspawn28 wrote:I don't trust these guys with a DBZ movie even if they are given a Hollywood size budget.

Re: DBZ Movie?
It won't surprise me if this makes Evolution look good. You will have the fan boys acting like "This is more faithful to the anime and manga!!" when being more faithful does not make it better.

Re: DBZ Movie?
Who are "these guys"? 20th Century FOX? They practically had nothing to do with Evolution. Blame the director and writers. Sure they hired the cast/crew we got but the company itself really had no input. James Wong even ignored Stephen Chow and his input.
Or KK? Yeah can't believe I supported them back when they were making their first project.

Re: DBZ Movie?
Evolution is a perfectly serviceable bad movie you'd stumble on at like 4 AM on TNT or something. It's hardly the offensive affront people act like it is.
A bunch of dweebs on the internet making a DBZ movie (without caring about Dragonball) right off after SUPER COOOOOL Saiyan Saga trailers are just gonna make a laughably bad shitfest of dorkery.
So it'll probably be pretty great.

I was talking about KK. I respect KK for putting the effort into their film making and that they love on what they are doing but that does not mean that I think that the stuff that they made is utter shit.Avenged wrote:

I agree. I was let down after the years of hype, but it makes for a great bad movie night. I'll be watching it for years to come.ImmaDeker wrote:Evolution is a perfectly serviceable bad movie you'd stumble on at like 4 AM on TNT or something. It's hardly the offensive affront people act like it is.

it's pretty shit when they (or so they say) took the 15 grand from donations along with 5k of their own money to use on it.Hellspawn28 wrote:I was talking about KK.
