Question relating to fanfic

This may seem like an odd question, but I know a lot of people get annoyed when fanfics give canon characters random new powers that have never been seen before, but I was just wondering:

Do you think it would be realistic/believable if, in a fanfic, Whis had the ability to erase events/details from people's memories? Canon Whis is a very mysterious character and we really don't know much about what he can do, so I figured this would be okay, but I just wanted some other opinions.

It is your story. Do what you want, I say. However you probably think of an explanation as often that is wished and it should be fitting to the rest but a god being able to do something like this - why not? Shen Long can do that as well.

It's all about believability. If you're writing about Whis, we know very little about, it's absolutely believable for you to give him specific abilities. Versus taking Gohan, for example, and giving him a dozen new abilities that he susses out through science (like vibrating his ki at a particular wavelength to cause lighting to form in the air, or that he vibrates the ground with his feet at the right frequency to cause an Earthquake, etc.) that he doesn't need and don't add anything to the story. Gohan is a very fleshed out and known character compared to someone like Whis. Which isn't to say, someone can't write a fanfic about Gohan gaining a new ability, but at least show us how he learns it since we know from canon that he doesn't know X technique yet.

Specifically to the ability you are talking about, the ability to alter someone's memories - I don't see that out of the realm of possibility for any character in the DB universe. There are psychics and wizards, so this ability could be a result of either one of those things. Just make sure to give some kind of plausible explanation for this. Perhaps Whis comes from a long line of sorcerers so this kind of magic is kid stuff to him, who knows! The cool thing is since Whis is not defined clearly in canon you can go a lot of directions with it. And assuming he has been alive a loooooong time (to be Bills's teacher, right?) you could be pretty complex with it if you want.
