Yamucha/Ten vs Yamucha/Kami

Hey everyone welcome to episode 2 of my Kanzenshuu series. FIGHT compare. It's where we compare fights with some-what similar back-stories or just for the heck of it. . Please post which fight you enjoy better and even request some fights you want me to compare. Last time I did this was Piccolo Daimao/Goku vs Goku vs Piccolo Jr.. I shall warn you. Since I'm an AMV maker that I'm using the anime version of these fights since it's fresh in my mind. Though feel free to use the manga version for your own personal opinion. Our two fights today. Yamucha/Ten vs Yamucha/Kami(Shen). First terms of order let's compare to story behind this these two fights.

Yamucha vs Ten. This match-up isn't just Crane School vs Turtle Hermit. Green vs Orange! Wolf Fang vs Three Eyes! No this is about Bragging Rights. This is just shut the other fighter up. Now in the anime Ten and Yamucha(Not sure in the manga) had a confrontation which caused Ten to tell Chazou to pair Ten with Yamucha. We see this again at the end of the anime(manga) where Goku tells Boo to the same to fight Oob. You may ask wasn't all Budokai fights "Bragging Rights"? No. Not only did the winner rarely brag but it was mostly the respect of the fighting that matters. Ten vs Goku a prime example. So with the backstage confrontation things are heated here! Now our next fight our boy Yamucha vs Shen. Shen(Hero in English dub. Don't know why though. Very awkward to edited to) is actually Kami in disguise! Shen is from Shenlong. Curious how the English dub found out how Hero was Kami. Anyone please feel free to fill me in. Kami takes over "Shen" to ensure Piccolo's defeat even if he has to kill himself. While Yamucha is in his 3rd Tenkaichi Budokai. I think we both know who wins this in terms of story. Ten vs Yamucha. Simple it's more heat creating tension for the match. The 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai was centered around Goku, Kami, and Piccolo. Nothing wrong with that. As the anime gave us two special treats. It shows each character growth as a person and fighter. The second treat. Well Bulma(Or Puar?) says Yamcha always get the strong ones in the first round. Kinda like Toei said "Yamucha is a stepping stone".

Story winner?: Ten/Yamucha. You felt the heat. You felt the bad blood. Ten thought Yamucha was the best Turtle Hermit student. Ten was the best Crane Student. Even though we the audience knows Yamucha isn't the best. Ten does. In his head it's "The Best" vs "The Best". No way you can beat that.

Now to the action.

Here's the part where my opinion is unpopular. You guys remember my "Overratedand Underrated Fights" topic? Yeah I found the Ten vs Yamucha fight overrated. It was cool and all. But eh. We start off with slow pace testing each other out type of fighting. But from there on there's blocking and dodging for 90% of the fight. However there's two good moments in this fight. Both with hard hitting attacks. In the ENG dub it's pretty funny. It goes like "Sorry I don't speak pain!" in which Ten knock Yamucha on his ass and responds "For someone who doesn't speak pain. You sound very fluent". Then after that Ten just out-skilled Yamucha. Which gave him a broken leg. Don't worry Yamucha you might have one good leg but one is better than none. Speaking of one Paul Heyman's client BRAAAAAAAAAACK LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESNAR! is the one in 21-1. Overall I actually found this match up boring. Now Shen vs Yamucha. You're going to say. "Yo Goken..ain't this match a gag at first?" Well it's a great gag as it not only it had me dying of laughter. But it shows Kami skill as a fighter. As those "accidents" were on purpose. Just a side note here, if you think of it Yamucha should had won by DQ. Kami use Shen's hair to hit him in the nuts. Yamucha got SCREWED . Once this match got serious. It's a well fought match. A prototype of DBZ if you will. We see Shen NAIL and I mean he nailed him good right in the jaw. Good Kami of mighty. However Yamucha counters with an attack that's one of the greatest in not DB history but ANIME history. I'm not a Yamucha fan at all. But Sokidan is up there with Giga Drill Breaker. That's how cool it is. Our guess speaker today(Kid Buu) have something to say about it.

I think the 2nd one is better. First fight had Kamemahema (boring, is in 90% of the fights in DBZ). Second one had Sokidan, cool move.

Though I disagree with the DBZ part of his opinion. I have to say myself. I enjoyed Kami vs Yamucha more as a FIGHT. It shows great attacks and even Kami's battle smarts. We rarely if ever got to see this. This is also the LAST time we ever see Bulma praise Yamucha(Unless one count the Anime showing her crying for Yamucha's death). So the scored is tied. 1-1. Ok. This is going be very short. Ten vs Yamucha KILLS Shen vs Yamucha in terms of music. There's one reason why.

So which one is better? Well that's up to your opinions which I'll love to here. I'll like to here an explanation why as well. Following the 3 set rule I made(You don't have to follow this), I have to admit that in terms of PLOT fighting Ten vs Yamucha is just better than Yamucha vs Shen/Kami. Better background. Badass music. Though the fighting was disappointing. Though if I didn't follow my own rules I'll say Yamucha vs Shen is the better FIGHT. However I'm judging this more than just fighting. I'm judging this based on Music! Fighting! Background/Story!

Now I'll like to hear your guys opinions. As I'll see you guys next week . Happy 4th of July.

I was speaking hyperbole. I meant it's cool to see Sokidan because we never see it that much, where as we see the Kamehameha a lot.

In terms of story, the Tenshinhan fight had better build-up. From Tenshinhan's introduction, he is introduced as an evil counterpart to Yamcha and their interactions show that their personalities contrast. Tenshinhan is all about being stoic serious where as Yamcha is more of a romantic and forgiving. Therefore we were excited to see the characters fight due to the build-up. It's funny that this is one of Dragon Ball's most memorable rivalries, when Toriyama barely fleshed it out in the manga. I plan on going more into this when I finish that Yamcha video, but I just need Gaffer Tape to find time so we can finish it.

However, in terms of fighting I think the Kami one is better. Once the awesome theme song stopped playing in the Tenshinhan match, it was a just generic "bad guy easily beats good guy to show strong he is" fight. It's cool that Yamcha got a new move, but a lot of people know the Kamehameha. Not to mention, it just completely fails anyway. The Kami fight is just awesome. What I like about is that Yamcha keeps failing and failing to hit him, so when he finally gets Kami with the Sokidan, it is a big moment of celebration. Yes, Kami beat him afterwards, but we all know Kami is a cheater. Yamcha should have won by disqualification.

Yeah, in the anime, both Puar and Bulma comment on that Yamcha has a habit of always having to fight the strong guy before everyone else does.

P.S Toru Furuya, the voice of Yamucha, once said the Kami fight was his favourite if I remember correctly. I'll have to look for that interview.

I think Yamchu is underrated in general and he doesn't deserve such a bad treatment but the battles are at least somewhat entertaining. Ten is morer interesting but the Suokidan is more stylish as surprise.

I find it hard to care much about either battle, as in both cases Yamcha's opponents are toying with him and can totally kick his ass at any time, meaning the fight itself is pretty much pointless.

I enjoyed both fights.
I love the Tenshinhan fight for the action and the buildup and the ending of the Kami fight and I enjoyed seeing Yamcha demonstate both the Kamehameha in the Tenshinhan fight and the Sokidan in the Kami fight.

I just wished Yamcha had more action in Dragonball Z though, same for all the earthlings.

Yamcha Vs. Ten was the first fight I watched of the Dragon Ball anime so I am a little biased, but I feel that it is a much better fight than Yamcha vs Shen. Yamcha looks like a fool while fighting Shen for the majority of the fight, but when he fought Ten, I felt like he might stand a chance while first watching the fight. His fight with Shen is mostly played for laughs so it is harder for me to take it seriously. Yamcha vs. Ten had more tension , and a huge consequence for Yamcha, which I why it is such a great fight.
