I dislike how Vegeta looks in Battle of Gods

One of the reasons I didn't like Battle of Gods that much is the drawings. For having a higher budget than the (2008 Jump Super Anime Tour) special, the drawings are really off-model.

Goku looks decent in BOG, the others look good (except Piccolo), (but) the worst looking is definitely Vegeta. My favourite look of Vegeta has always been his Cell and Buu arc style.

My general complaints:
1) Lack of Muscle Mass. It feels like a downgrade compared to his progression through the anime (skinny in the Saiyan saga, average in the Freeza and Android sagas, and buff post-ROSAT Cell saga and Buu saga). It looks jarring and it makes no sense since he's not even a SSJG. He should've looked like this after going SSJG.
2) There are some scenes where his arms look so skinny it looks like he's anorexic or something. It looks really weird especially since he keeps his muscular body.
3) His hair is too small. It looks like a wig most of the times. When they manage to get the proportions right, they screw up something else.
4) His skin tone is too dark. He always had a darker skin tone than Goku (except when going SSJ), but here it just looks too dark. Sometimes he looks sunburned. And since he's the only character with such a dark skin tone, it looks really strange and out of place when you place him besides someone else (see the scenes with Bulma; she has a pale white skin color and he looks like an African).
5) The blue in the suit is too bright and the entire suit lacks shading and detail.

I think he looks much better in the (2008) special, which is weird since I don't think the budget was higher than Battle of Gods.

I agree Cell Saga Vegeta was the best looking Vegeta. Actually everyone looked pretty dope in the Cell Saga.

To me, this image is absolutely horrible, that's not the Goku I grew up watching, that's a girl dressed like goku...

...Goku is only skinny in the Super Saiyan God transformation, and that's completely intentional by Toriyama as well as a nice change from "MOAR HAIR, MOAR MUSCKLEZ, MOAR POWAH" IMO. Goku is fine in every other form and you only have to deal with this one for 7 and a half minutes in the Special Edition.

No but the art for the series is based on the art that Toriyama draws for the respective arcs. This is no different for the films.

You can see the work Toriyama did for Battle of Gods and how it influenced the character designs pretty clearly.

Of course, Yamamuro is heading up the art side of the film so his influence is pretty clear. As such, we have this in-between mix of Toriyama's current work alongside what Yamamuro is used to drawing.

In case you forgot, thats what SSJG does. It makes you thinner and leaner. Goku isnt always that skinny, its just when he's in SSJG.

ok thanks for the clarification but still i the older transformations were more badass. This one doesn't feel epic at all... And as far as Vegeta goes, i think the best version/drawings were in the buu arc

These kind of topics have been appearing ever since some footage of BoG showed up and soemtimes even before than that. I said this before and I'll say it again, the art-style that we've been getting since the RB2 ova is terrible, everything looks really bland and/or too shiny. Movies 12 and 13, and the 2008 special is what modern DBZ should be looking like.

The new look is too streamlined. I don't like the general shape of the faces and noses in the new look. And yeah, the muscle mass seems smaller, but it's not too jarring. Super Saiyan God looks thin and lean and the eys look different (bigger pupils, or the eyes are thinner or something). I don't know, I think that it's just that we're used to a more hand-drawn version. If the entire series was animated this way, I don't think anyone would complain.

Did it ever occur to you that it was intentionally tame? SSJG is a perfect example of how Toriyama does things. The strongest form is always the most basic looking. Its been that way with Freeza and Cell.

While I agree I would have preferred seeing either a new outfit for Vegeta or at least just his Boo arc look again, him having the armor does make a slight bit of sense. He did say in the JSAT that the armor was formal wear, and the movie was taking place at another party.

Honestly I'm still more annoyed a little bit at the weird way Gohan switches costumes without warning. Okay, so he had the Saiyaman outfit on under his normal outfit, that's fine. But...then he's suddenly in the orange gi without explanation? Whaa?

Keep in mind he's training when we first see him and was currently wearing his armor when Kaio contacts him about Beerus's incoming arrival. I'd keep armor on too if I heard the Hakaishin was coming to my planet.

Best Vegeta design from my point of view was Buu Saga Vegeta. Specially from Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon. But now... well, I know we wont get those anymore... *sigh*

Hmm, characters seem to change appearances a lot throughout the series. It's a little tricky even remembering them all.

He just didn't wear any armour during the Buu arc due to the Tenkaichi Budokai rules. I do agree that it does make sense for him to wear it. One thing I've always liked about Vegeta is that he was always proud about his Saiyan heritage, so it's reasonable for him to wear their armour. It fits the character.

Nah, dude. The 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai and Saiyan arc style is the best. Piccolo looks like a demon. The characters have this gritty yet simple look to them (which, ironically, looks more realistic, especially the muscles). The faces and bodies have wonderful proportions. Oh, and the animation is the best around that point in the series on all studios' accounts.

The series has never looked as good, and never will again going by the trend I see.

Though to be fair, this movie has better designs than GT; GT had huge noses, ginormous chins, low foreheads, eyes that were too far apart and oversized muscles. It was the absolute ugliest and the worst the series had ever seen in terms of design and style. The animation was also piss poor.
